You know what?

I asked. I asked, and I paid the price for my curiosity.

Ignorance is bliss. I don't know why I keep forgetting that. Ignorance is bliss. I need to remember that. Ignorance is bliss.
2hu's one of those abysses that isn't content with staring back. It's got tentacles man. Just... take it easy. pfffffffffffffffft

@Captain Clever Sorry for if I'm angry but statements like "Is this the sort of quest you want to play?" come across as snarky and insulting rather than debative.
Snark was the intent, but pointed instead of insulting, and I apologize if it came across that way.

Hey @Prok is one of those figures in the Fate shop Fox Alistair?

We can still learn Grimmsplosion Fu.
Just figure out the Grimm's resonant frequency.

I have a question since there was some talk about Jaune being disarmed. It might be stupid but I can't help but ask. Can we create something that enables us to use the Transistor function while not holding it? So when Jaune gets disarmed he can still use the functions to defend himself. Or are the function only used with the Transistor in hand?

I think Jaune can litterally wield the Transistor with his mind.

Some kind of remote access should be doable, upgrading the Transistor's durability and building a portable access point to swap functions with have come up. The only issue is that most fiunctions fire from the Transistor, so while Jaune could levitate the sword and fire Spin(), he probably can't launch a Breach() from his palm. Might allow him to freely Jaunt() and Turn() though so worth it anyway.

But can he use the Functions with the Transistor out of his reach? I haven't completely played the game so I have some stuff that I don't understand. And it's been a while, like three months since I touched it.

If creating a portable access is possible, then the next step to that is creating a smaller version of the Transistor. Maybe a watch to hide it? I think this subject came up already but I don't know what became of it.

Also, maybe he can fire some functions from afar, like when someone's holding the sword away from Jaune he could force them to let go by surprising them with a function activation.

That's for Prok to answer. In game the Transistor's power is only usable when Red's got two hands on it, except in the one scene where she's levitating it.

Ah sorry, different kind of access point. It doesn't let Jaune use the Transistor, it lets him choose the functions loaded onto the device. Right now it can only be done in Jaune's room through the primary access point. Which reminds me @Prok load Freeze() plz.

And yeah, ranged functions are the best case, but maybe Jaune has to load a function by hand and then toss the sword...

Ah, that's unfortunate then. Because if it was possible, we can have Jaune create a small Transistor that can be connected to the main Transistor, maybe a watch like I gave as an example or a glove, that can hold a function and let him use it freely.

So, aside from that. I have an idea for a function but it's not a complete one. LogicBomb(), name subject to change. Creates a landmine by using data. The passive I thought for this is it lets you plant a function on a surface and activated at will or by stepping on said surface. Everyone, feel free to change my idea or improve on it before I finish it. @Prok is this suggestion ok? Anyone can use this incomplete function and improve on it if I can't. I still don't understand the mechanics of creating functions at the moment.

[x]Title: Four Swords Stylin'

[x] Socialise- Now that you have new friends you don't have to live with, it's time to get used to the task of maintaining those friendships. I know, I was surprised too!
-[x] Creme- sure, she seems a little high-strung at times, but she's nice enough, and you think she could do with the company. Your sisters must never know about this. They will find out over your cold, dead body.

[x] Train- Swordsmanship, Gunmanship, Athletics, all kinds of things need training if you're gonna be an effective Huntsman. Pick a skill you have and you'll train it as best you can for a while.
-[x] Swordsmanship

[x] Acquire Moolah- You may not have bills, but some extra dosh never killed a man. At least, the man making it. Take one of the jobs you've found. {Ahem.}
-[x] QA 2: Vidya Boogaloo- Run up to door. Run away from door. Run backwards into door. Jump into door. Backwards jump into door. Hit door. Throw grenade at door. Cast spell at door. Open door. Proceed through door. Run up to door. Run away from door. Run backwards into door. Jump into door. Backwards jump into door. Hit door. Throw grenade at door. Cast spell at door. Open door. Proceed through door. Run up to door... (3000 Lien, research bonus to Recursion(), and deeper insight into the true meaning of insanity.)

[X] Go Into Town- Oh hell yeah, time to paint this motherfucker red! Or, just wander about town, maybe find a bookshop or something, ooh, that cafe you heard about sounds nice... (5k Lien minimum to make Jaune think it's worth going into town. You have 5.7k, and therefore can.)

Minimal chance of the sisters ruining our life for hanging out with Lumen.
Our weapon is a supercomputer crossed with a Daiklave. We need to figure out how to actually USE the second half of that so we can go full Alchemical.
And it both seems funny and is a good source of dosh (grab it while ya can, lads!).

Why would people vote to spend all any amount of time doing freaking animation?
Because how else are we supposed to create and distribute online, a video that features the lead characters of two successful vidya franchises duking it out?
Or to put it another way, because Monty.

Prok already said Jaune's probably not ever going to use the Transistor as a sword (using qualifiers because I care about precision). He's going to get another sword and use that instead.
Technically being a sword, however, unlike being technically correct, is the worst kind of sword. Much like Guts and the Dragonslayer, it's more like a club than a sword, you're not actually gonna cut anything with it.

Besides, wouldn't you rather train using a sword with, you know, an actual sword?

The best kind of sword?
I'm starting to think there's a major misconception floating around, but tagging Swordsmanship voters to check that they KNOW what they're voting for is no bueno in so many ways. Augh.

(vote Telekinesis to hit things with the Transistor)

Ha! Okay that's pretty good.

Vote isn't closed right?
Not yet, no, but I'll close it later tonight.

But can he use the Functions with the Transistor out of his reach?
As a general rule of thumb, while possible to fire Functions from the Transistor while it's in flight, that would incur severe penalties to aiming, on account of not being able to judge properly where it's aiming, and the AIs not really dealing with speed all that well.

Too many close shaves with trees to be very comfortable with it, see.

Now, as, say, a mobile turret, just floating around him, that's more feasible, but some Functions still have the strike limitation, which I just realised I forgot to note in the research tab. Using it like that without a holdout weapon is inadvisable, though.

There's a form on the Function Research Tab that should help you out with that, but this fits the basics really well!

Look at the form and it should help you with that.

As a general rule, if I can recognise it, your senile grandmother can recognise it, and by extension, Jaune can recognise it.

It can't be used as a sword because, by definition, it isn't a sword. But that's pedantry, which isn't useful right now.

What is useful right now, is the knowledge that you are a mage. You're slow(ish), you're kinda squishy, but you hit like an angered god. Improving your swordsmanship, and getting a backup weapon, will help you, yes, it'll definitely make you more mobile, alongside letting you keep the Transistor as a trump card, say, if you get Cache() for example. Use your sword until you have to get serious, then pull the Transistor out of thin air to rain technological death down on your enemies.

What I will do, however, is offer you a choice in what direction you want to train your swordsmanship, because I've seen some interesting ideas turn up. If you want to train with something a little more on the normal side, like Crocea Mors, you can do that, if you want to use Slice() to turn the Transistor into a sword, or just club people over the head with it, you can do that, or if you want to find some kind of happy medium... go ahead.

But your swordsmanship is almost always going to take a backseat to your Functions.

That's more than fair I think. Reinforce the sword, improve telekinesis so that Jaune can take off 90% of the weight while swinging it and bring it back for the impact-slash-use it to fly like he's gone full wuxia, store Process Cells in Cache() for instant summoning... pretty good build.

Also, I went back and checked and while the Transistor certainly doesn't have an edge, uh...

It's a PIERCING weapon, which is kind of horrifying.
To be be fair it is less piercing and more plugging in. :V

Forces you to make a Dex save or take 1d4 damage
:lol:rofl: Don't forget the movement penalty!

I love how this chain starts from mild inanity with implications(?) and ends up here. But bringing it back to seriousness for a sec...
We know that Jaune's Semblance and the Transistor have abilities that he's not aware of yet, Processing among them. Imagine that he's using the sword in a practice spar, thrusts with it and runs someone through and it automatically rips their soul out. :o

That's the horror scenario, but it's somewhat more likely that it happens with a Beowulf. Better because no flensed soul, worse because it breaks down and tries to analyze a Grimm's soul. Imagine what the data from that looks like when injected into the Transistor.
