ANATH RAEMA YIPPPEEEE!!!!!
I really want to do a strange apolitical (snrk) exhibit about MATHLANN/MANANN/STROMFELS, how and why the various aspects are worshipped and/or have been split from one another. Anath Raema actually fits well into this topic as there's an idea that Stromfels is AnathRaema/Stromfels which would be very interesting. Because it basically recasts Stromfels from "every order faction hates that guy" to "welll . . yeah okay savage and brutal but frankly acceptable." When you combine that with how the Elves actually conceive and "worship" their gods . . the Tide of Skjold are excellent worshippers of AnathRaema from the elvish perspective.

Which would be a trip, huh? The transhumanist undead being considered holy by their lifestyle living in-line with the gifts and hunts and trophies of AnathRaema. I want to see more undead getting in on that action. I've long been looking at ways that the culture of the Citadel of Dusk colony could warp, but not really paying attention to elvish influence on Awakening. What if Awakening picks up more Cytharai coding? Elvish gods don't get worshipped the way most mankind worships their own gods, so it's not like it's a big change. Just a knowledge of the Cytharai and the ways they may be pleased.

I mean. Khaine is murder, and boy oh boy pirates get up to a lot of murder.

I'm honestly not very familiar with the Cytharai, but I look forward to learning about them!

~~~~~
oh and uh, approval voting the Far East. I'd be down to learn about them, and the linking of Citadel of Dusk with the rest of the colonial network is good. More soft power and reach coalescing in Aelsabrim's hands
AND frankly they're all cool. I'm just a big fan of the religions of mariners angle.
It's definitely not a ticket to the sunken cities, but it will put us in a position where we might begin the process of getting access to said cities. Good enough for me!
We've got reasonable pre-existing power and future collection opportunities for both Lustrian Magic and Beast Trophies. For the former, we already have the Siren-Wail and the Palanquin, and can work our leads on Nakai and New Huatl; for the latter, we've got plentiful skeletons and skilled hunters. Thematically, I've already made my positive opinion towards further theological investigation of Stromfels known, and poking at the Cytherai cults seems likely to get us some relevant threads... but more investigation of local magic would also be neat, and I'd definitely be happy with either option.
In contrast, Citadel, Asur Colonies, and the Far East all feel like they'd require more of a pivot to arrange, and I'm not as interested in pursuing those threads.
I find it amusing imagining how the players of Pirate King Quest are reacting to a crit on "[Galleon's Graveyard] []: start a museum as a vanity project. Benefits: cheap. Downside: maybe it will help?" resulting in diplomatic benefits with the elves
It's been a few years, Noctilus might have even been deposed already.
We already are scheduled for a bit of a pivot, though, since our current setup could lead to a grumpy Lutr due to ignoring his agenda. And 'Far Eastern Necromancy/Vampires' sounds like a perfectly fine Hunt Leads target and exhibition. A centerpiece that hits both agendas at the same time is literally almost worth a Goodwill on its own.
Purely out of curiosity, what's your thinking with regard to [ ] Citadel on this point? Asur colonial memorabilia and eastern artefacts being a little out of the way from our current goals (Cathayan vampire investigation notwithstanding) are fair enough but 'Ships and Naval Weapons of Naval Powers' is something we've already got an exhibit on and there have been a few considerations of exhibits to showcase particular crews or even the general piratical culture of the Vampire Coast...
(Please be assured that this is genuine curiosity, not anything accusatory or similar! As the numerous edits will attest, couldn't figure out quite the words to strike the tone I wanted!)
@Boney what is covered by "Lustrian Magic"?
Lizardmen, Old Ones, and any "natural" magical phenomena, I'm guessing, but does it also include the magic of the various people who have settled in Lustria—the Norscans of Skeggi, the Vampire Coast, Clan Pestilens etc?
Additionally, would the Siren-Wail be classified as "Lustrian Magic"?
Any magics unique to those factions would count. The Siren-Wail would squeak in on a technicality.
Speaking of that, how in hell did Luther manage that? He would have had to fight Slaans and a lot of fanatically devoted Sauruses.
Terrain, artillery, prep time, local naval dominance, the natural advantage that necromancy has with wars of attrition, and being a first-generation Vampire, up against the Slann having to balance their efforts against him with their efforts against all the other forces vying for Lustria.
That's certainly a choice 4e can make, to have the one kingdom noted for its worship of Mathlann provide the people wanting to hunt down his kid.
Colonies often acted as pressure valves for religious tensions. It makes sense that colonial population beliefs could differ dramatically from the mainstream position of their kingdom of origin.
The Citadel's special tag seems even narrower than Naval Warfare in general, and we don't have the right tags for that, as per Boney's previous ruling:
Some tags are going to be narrower than others. Narrower tags are more likely to be of interest to Audiences and Patrons.
If you had the knowledge of naval warfare to put the Niflhundr in the full context of 'this is an example of an early Xth century whatsit, commonly built in western Norsca by the thingo tribe' or whatever, it might get the naval warfare tag. Or it might just not be that significant on that front, being more of a delivery mechanism for raiders than an actual ship of the line.
Given that ruling, I expect that we won't have the knowledge needed to meet the Citadel's requirements unless we hire a naval warfare specialist. I further expect it'll be difficult to get more ships of any kind without simply hiring pirates to capture prize ships for us. We could do that, but it's not what the Tide specialize in, so that'd feel like "spend two more Goodwill to make any use of this bonus we just bought with Goodwill", which is a really expensive pivot.
The Governor benefit of: Aelsabrim becomes a source of Elven military relics is likely to produce at least a few 'Naval Weapons of Naval Powers' items, though I expect it'll be a gacha where we may end up getting cavalry armour or a particularly fine battering ram instead.
Salvaging wrecks with the Tide is another potential source, as is trading with Skeggi or Port Reaver.
In the end I don't think it's much more of a pivot than Lustrian Magic, which we also have no direct source for but have several potential leads.
Note that Lustrian Magic is also something we can get through hitting up Aelsebrim for Relics. That's not something we specifically voted to develop with her, but it was one of her pre-existing options, and she quite plausibly has more available right now, having just captured the Harbormaster and all the illicit goods he had in his own storerooms.
I like the connection to the seat of Elven Arcane power, and the ability to act openly in the Asur world.
I dislike dedicating the museum as a shrine, even if we get a Big Catfish skeleton for it.
From its description, Citadel sounds like a way towards another audience, this one being Asur naval military personnel rather than the Sea Elves, which seem to be more adventurous nobility and wealthy merchants looking for stimulation. I'm interested in seeing what the difference is in terms of Affinities, plus some more interest in naval stuff. But investigating Asur colonies and more beast trophies also seems interesting.
