Just something funny
just a chapter
Has 20000 marines

"We're not a legion, I swear" — says the 20000th lamenter legionnaire, 570.M43

We probably don't have 500 worlds , okay!? Maybe 300 at best, and ignore the planets devoured by the maws, they don't count as inhabited worlds — a lamenter too lazy to actually count the individual planets (or read the outdated federation sub sector maps marking the watchtower as an existing faction cohabiting Claiden's Rift)

Nothing ever returned from there so we are out of luck. :)

It was also scary enough to traumatize the Necron Grandpa who wanted his ships back and set him back several decades despite being on our doorstep.

"You see that squggly thing? That's not a rift, that's a corpse"

We only know this much because we can scan a system's layout from a jump away. Even just seeing the shadows of it was very "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" inducing.

Now that I think about it, what happened with old Necron and company?
Got his ships, buggered off, encountered Lucius, killed the fucker, turned around, encountered Lucius, killed the fucker, turned around, encountered Lucius, asked if this was some kind of prank by his nephew Trayzn, got insulted, killed the fucker, turned around, encountered Lucius, etc.

. . . Have any rogue traders shown up in the quest? I remember something about buying some metals or whatever but I can't recall with certainty.

Y'know, it's kind of curious no one tried killing Lucius with someone properly Warp-negative. Unless in that case we would have the repeat of the incident with mines, and the freak would jump into whoever made equipment.

I think that one of the weapons is clearly the standout - it'll have a much better effect on the dreadnaught than anything else. And these are the ones that'll improve the other fleets we have to redesign. Though I am tempted to go for the artillery and give the dreadnaught a full battery of Heavy Tetratek ARc Cannonades.

Yeah, the reason I'm leery about Equipment is because... Well, a 10% bonus gets you maybe 10 DP worth from a 100 build points of Equipment, useful, but not essential.

Meanwhile, a 50% bonus on--say--let's call it the Hangars.

Crusader Fleet Doctrine normally says "Lol fuck you" to anything beyond a single weapon type. But in this case, we make the hangars our second weapon type. So, let's say--hypothetically--I decide to commit 200 DP to weapons, and commit to Lances for our primary.

Let's go with three prow mounted Heavy Tetratek guns (30/2 = 15 DP) 14x Arc Cannons and 10x Arc Lances (154/2 = 83)

Now let's get to hangars.

Normally, we'd be able to afford 14 Ultra-Heavy Hangars with this investment (98 DP), but thanks to the Hangarbonus, this cost falls down to 49 DP, a staggering amount of DP savings. We can either re-invest that into more firepower, or we can get even more strike craft out of this, which would be very important given the nature of what it means to fight Tyranids!

But then let's add in the Equipment Cost discount on top of that, and that's another savings of about another 10 DP. In total, we get about 60 DP of savings out of committing to a specific weapon, vs 10 DP from 100 DP worth of Equipment in total.

Point is, specialization matters, and we've been carrier focused long enough that making it our capstone feels like the way to go. A combination of long range lanceboat, effective Fifth Generation Strike Craft (On account of being able to get away with Experimental Fighter Deployments because this is going to get a Monumental Manufactory--among everything else), and all of our Strike Craft boosts? Yeah, that's a fitting flagship for the Glimmering Federation.
