Personally, I feel that the support niche will be the most optimal when we're training wyrdvanes for the Guard. If the Guard needs to erase a hab block, they've got basilisks. If they need a group of heretics shredded into bloody flinders by hand, they've got ogryn. But healers that can put them back together without horrific painful scarring or turning them half-metal via augmetics, and in a fraction of the time to boot? That's a rare and valuable resource. While not as immediately glamorous sounding, the Imperial Guardmen and their officers will be incredibly aware of the difference wyrdvane healers can have in restoring casualties.

As for the security measures, I'm liking the idea of having one that's publicly visible, like the stakes or holy shotguns, and one that isn't, like the neck bombs or mercury brain capsules. It puts the burden of self-policing for corruption into the hands of the wyrdvanes, literally, but also ensures there's a back-up that operates regardless.

Consider that if your Wyrdvane survives and members become Primaris, they'll be expected to train their own Wyrdvanes.
Could we get a brief overview of Torvum's preferred combat doctrine then, if we're essentially going to start a whole psychic tradition for them? Because I don't want to have something that doesn't mesh with them at all, seeing how wide-reaching of an impact it will have

Psyker + shock troops generally do not mix well.
I say take support or fire support.
Implanted bombs + stake sounds like interesting mix.

And like I said, would be fun grimm idea of Occam collecting skulls of psykers almost possessed Daemons. It sounds chaotic but it is more symbolic than trying to worship chaos, especially when we didn't kill them personally.

That option lets the psychers act as a force multiplier for the entire army, not just as help in a very specific place. The Guard already has assets that can level buildings and destroy tanks, but it has nothing that allow for absolutely secure communications, future seeing, enhanced coordination and easy healing for serious injuries.

[] Psychic artillery:
Your Wyrdvanes will be kept away from the fight and serve to destroy the enemies from afar. They shall combine their powers and work together, raining psychic fire from the sky, bringing down buildings, sending forth lightning, and sending the enemy mad.
-Somewhat prestigious.
-A decent way to earn renown.

-Very low physical requirements ensure access to stronger Psykers from the recruiting pool.
-Low risks of death in combat.
If the men keep asking where the fuck the artillery is, let's show them the destruction a psyker can rain down upon their enemies!

Just the regular Imperial Guard combat doctrines. But it is the Imperial Guard, so regiments will be different and change things up.

The Torvum Tribune and Triarii are just templates that are used across the sector. There will be changes on a local level.

Reasoning: I really like the combination of microexplosives and Nodule, for the reasons already mentioned in the thread. As for roles I dislike shock troops as it both reduces the recruitment pool, and tries to lean into the area Guard is the weakest at. Not to mention the possibility of Nodule misfire being much higher if the psykers engage in close range combat. I am fine with the other two, although of forced to chose one I would go with artillery. There is no kill like overkill.

According to the Imperium Maledictum core book. The Macharian Sector was founded in part thanks to the aid of Solar Macharius deploying large forces of Psykers as their own formations.

These being so effective, that Macharius's instructions on how to treat Psykers are still largely followed by the sectors militarum.

"
Macharian Astra Militarum soldiers are taught that Wyrdvane Psykers are to be respected as fellow soldiers serving under difficult burdens but are also not to be fraternised with, while Primaris Psykers are regarded as commissioned officers. Neither their actions nor the odd occurrences around them are to be questioned by common soldiers.
Commissars serving with Macharian units typically find this laxity in the vigilance of the common soldier to be abhorrent — viewing it as little more than witch-sympathy and heresy. While certain allowances may be made in the heat of battle, most Commissars are swift in delivering the Emperor's mercy to any psyker that appears to have lost control of the terrifying power they command

The Wyrdvanes will not know it, but implanted within each of their craniums will be a sealed capsule of blessed mercury. Upon the presence of daemonic energies, the mercury within will react violently enough to rupture the capsule and swiftly corrode every scrap of living tissue within the skull. For the unfortunate Psyker, it will be as though they simply fell to a slumber they shall never awake from. Does not cause decapitation or destruction of the head. Denies vessels for Daemonhosts. Requires access to Ministorum clerics entrusted with the rites to bless the mercury.
