Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I mean yeah but lack of need could be a reason they don't have them. Fairly sure dp would of told us if we had nukes. I was never really debating ability
Different threat scenarios.
You can disable a nuclear device at line of sight range with a Rank 2 Spirit Gift like Call Forth the Wyld, if you can see it coming.
You cant disable a balefire elemental. Not the same way, anyway.

From what I remember DP (or was it someone else? I don't remember exactly) said somewhere that we don't have normal nuclear weapons, not because the Sanctuary can't build them, but because it would go against all the military needs of our people for millennia and so there is no interest in building them.

The biggest impact of nuclear weapons is radiation poisoning, then the uselessness of the attacked space for decades, but our world has only a small survivable area and only five hyper-cities that could be targets of such attacks.

This would literally destroy a fifth of all civilization at once, even forgetting that the consequences would be temporary with the reincarnation of the Wheel, whoever did this would have the biggest unimaginable target on their head and would be hunted relentlessly by all the reborn victims and would be victim of all the other super horrible weapons that magic is capable of but is not used precisely because it is so horrible. The balefire bombs are well within the range of being useful enough without being too destructive to our troops so far.

If we, as their goddess queen, order the construction of such weapons, I am sure that in at most 6 months we will have several ready to be used at any time, but until then there is no need for such a weapon. But we really should have our own weapons of destruction, specific to our faction, ready to be dropped if we need one(I want use it on the Reds, see how they like).

Yeah I mean it'd be nice to have and then have them transported to somewhere remote in the world storm shit going down. I want shit that can wipe a country off the map. Sure it probably work in every nevernever dimension but it should in some.

FYI.

I think more than a few people might've voted while under the impression that the Urge would trigger. The Urge won't be triggering here due to us being in the same scene as earlier when Namshiel triggered it on purpose.

If this was a different scene Shintai wouldn't still be up and it was already said that we couldn't trigger the Urge earlier for this scene while we had Shintai up and some people wanted to ask a Crown question of Namshiel to trigger it.

So for those who voted to both ask a Crown question and use an excellency just be aware that we will have only 5 motes remaining if we do so and our second use of Shintai will be expiring after this scene.

Also if you are voting please add in WHWH so we can get extra dice.

Okay and? A nuke can do more damage probably. Also tech is tech.
Biological weapons can do a lot more damage too, but we dont have any in deployment.
Its not because we cant build them.

The issue is that your entire nuclear arsenal isnt going to be very good at its job if a random schmuck with a Rank 2 Spirit Gift can intercept or otherwise disable it. A LOT of people and spirits in Sanctuary can potentially learn, or may even already possess the relevant Spirit Gift(s).

Which is something of an embarassment when you are a nuclear power spending the equivalent anywhere from $3 billion(UK) to $60 billion dollars(US) a year on your nuclear weapons arsenal.
While a missile-delivered strategic-class balefire elemental is a lot harder to dissuade or otherwise defend against.

Ergo, if you are the military of a magitech society with both advanced physics and advanced magic, reviewing your options for perpetrating reliable mass destruction against military and civilian targets, you would lean towards the weapon that cant be disabled or defended against by a bunch of scrappy kids with a telescope.

It doesnt mean you cant build it. It means there are other factors to consider.

If he concentrates, Harry can hear your heartbeat from across the room and your approximate location.
And can identify heart beats by species.
No external spell cast, innate ability.

Fucking wizards.
That's also a thing you can do with Sphere 1 effects (Forces or Life would either work in this case).

If I had to model it, I'd give Wizards those low-level rotes rather than giving everyone an additional made-up Merit for acuter senses while concentrating.

Also I just remembered that the Urge isn't going to trigger at all because if this was a different scene Shintai wouldn't be in effect as it's only scene long and the Urge was already triggered earlier for this scene by Namshiel. Too bad I didn't mention this earlier.

@Yog we're going to have 5 left if you go for both the question and the excellency.
Even so, I would rather spend essence here than risk Harry damning himself. 5 essence is not little. Especially when we are in shintai. 5 essence is a full mote pool of an E1 dragonblood. Less than a third of ours, but with our charms already active, as you pointed out, well worth the spending.
You can disable a nuclear device at line of sight range with a Rank 2 Spirit Gift like Call Forth the Wyld, if you can see it coming.
The underlined part totally makes it impossible. The velocity of a ballistic missile at the terminal stage of approach exceeds 3 Mm/h, roughly approaching 1 km/s. The average yield of a nuclear warhead is 200 kT. This results in 560 meter radius fireball, and the detonation overpressure range of more than 4 km. This is an airburst calculation. You won't see it coming, and you won't have time to react. Not unless you are an exalt with a paranoia setup of charms. Because it'll be detonating half a kilometer in the air, and you'll have less than a second to react. And no warning because it's moving way faster than sound.

People often underestimate the velocity of missiles and other modern projectiles.

So, any ideas on what Harry is going to get when he succeeds? My guess is either True Faith (for Magic) or Soulfire. True Faith being appropriate for resisting the temptations and Soulfire would be Fate trying to retail him a bit.

Weird argument. Harry risk himself either way. Molly is also helping him either way as well.
The degree of help differs. These are the options:
1) Harry takes the risk, no bonuses, Molly bails him out if things go wrong
2) Harry takes the risk, bonus from information provided by Molly (the value of bonus depends on Molly's roll), Molly bails him out if things go wrong
3) Harry takes the risk, extended bonus from information provided by Molly using WHWH (the value of bonus depends on Molly's roll), Molly bails him out if things go wrong
4) Harry takes the risk, larger bonus from information provided by Molly using excellency (the value of bonus depends on Molly's roll), Molly bails him out if things go wrong
5) Harry takes the risk, largest bonus from information provided by Molly using WHWH and excellency (the value of bonus depends on Molly's roll), Molly bails him out if things go wrong

I am voting for options 4 and 5. The risk is great, and I want to mitigate it. Harry botched a lot of rolls in this quest, I want him to succeed here.

Lol. Yeah I know. I've been in thread. Your original comment was weird to me because if you didn't want Harry to risk damning himself you wouldn't be voting for him to do the labyrinth at all.
I want to minimize the risk, while still maitaining the chance of getting the reward. Because Harry needs all the bonuses he can get, given the type of company he keeps, Molly included.

Arc 14 Post 51: Crown's Sight and Mirror Hollow
Crown's Sight and Mirror Hollow

18th of February 2007 A.D.

The air grows cold with your contemplation, reaching into the watchful dark for answers: "What can I do to help?" Thus it burns along threads black as ash against the backdrop of a starless night, invisible even to the wise. in all moments but this.

One is will, imperishable and unchanging the spoke upon which the wheel turns
Four are Virtues that drive the heart on, on roads straight and crooked, the small sundered suns
Compassion frays before the tide of the world's careless cruelty, hear the children crying.
Temperance breaks to the tolling of false innocence, ware the familiar face
Conviction turns to heartless calculation of souls uncounted grinding
Valor's promise to take on any challenge a veil of ashes to embrace
The span over eternity is woven not of steel, but silk that bends and sways
Thus comes undone the cruel and empty maze

"Harry if you want to do this know it's going to show you things. Some will be truths that hurt to know, some will fears you keep deep inside and every last one will be meant to break you until. The Maze turns and twists and tries to make you lost, tries to find your guiding light and drag it down. It doesn't always go like it did for Shaw. If you brace your weakness it will go after your strength. It's..." you frown. "Evil really doesn't exist of itself, its a distortion, a lie or an absence, if it.. if he can cut you up and make you choose what parts to keep, then he will cut and cut until there's nothing left but the sound of the knife. You have to keep the balance, no matter what he'll show you, no matter if its true or not, you have to keep the faith in everything you are and all that makes you human."

As you speak Ebenezer McCoy at first looks weary, then angry, he almost starts to speak, though in that moment before he can find the words you finish and he is left in limbo. Pensive, sad, it's hard to guess what lurks behind those eyes, but one thing is for sure, he cares about Harry not just the way a teacher cares for their students, wanting the best for them once they have stepped away, but as a parent does, a piece of their heart set forever aside in worry and love.

"Everyone wants to be something they are not," Lydia says, her tone mussing, but not uncertain. "They live with it and die with it. Plenty of people, most people die content enough to move on, but I have never met a human soul passing who did not have regrets who didn't want for something. If I understand this aright this place, this conversation with Empty Night aims to convince all wizards who pass into is that what they want to is to no longer be human. One who knows themselves utterly and without self-deception could walk though the maze as the white hind through the sunlit woods, untroubled by peril..."

"But for those who don't know they have to accept that too," you finish softly. A hard thing for wizards to do, whose very name means 'wise', you think, though there's no sense in saying so aloud.

"Well..." Harry looka around at the black featurless walls of the Labyrinth, your Labyrinth. "That's more advice, more help than most of the poor suckers who got thrown in here got. No sense throwing it all away."

"Can't have been too good or else you'd have unstopped your ears and listened," the old wizard's voice is gruff, though more with worry than anger. "If you go into this thinking to sacrifice yourself, that's what you'll get! You aren't here to pay for your sins Harry, there's no cosmic scoreboard for you to right. Swear ta God, it's like I managed to raise you Catholic somehow."

You really shouldn't laugh but you do because it's so true. Harry does have the guilt down really well, though it gets a lot less funny when you realize he's never gone to confession once, he's just been bottling it up, trying to pay it back not knowing if he has or if he's deluding himself. You are reminded of a talk you had with dad when you were just getting into middle school and there were some things you really didn't want to talk to a priest about, silly schoolyard crushes looking back now.

Can't someone do right by God on their own, like what if they're alone on a desert island?

Sure they can, but it's harder, like wandering a road at night without company.
And you had just looked at him funny so he'd said: Like getting ready to go out without someone to hold the mirror and confirm that you look right or give advice when something's off. Even if you do get it right you might not have the confidence and then you'll spend all night wondering.

Harry is quiet for a long time, or at least it seems like that as the moments drag themselves along before he settles on a look of resolve. It suits him well. "I get it now. I'm going in."

For all your sakes you hope he's right.

OOC: The next post will be an interlude from Harry's PoV. In the meantime you guys might want to consider how you are going to explain your... everything to the Merlin if you find him alive, he is the most likely to ask detailed questions because that is the kind of person he is and Molly has that sense of him.
