At this point the reputational cat is out of the bag

No amount of pick me grovelling is going to get the hard-core misogynists to respect us, which to be clear, they wouldn't really have done so even if we'd been the most traditionally feminine lady.

At this point we have more to gain from embracing unorthodoxy and cultivating that reputation rather than making ourself small for small minded men.

I will say it's basically impossible to be the character you guys have built without pissing off a lot of people, it is a consquence of the route that has been choosen. That doesn't mean we should completely ignore diplomacy and the opinion of lords, but you are always going to have something of a mixed reputation because of Rhaenyra's interests.

This is a bit of a darker plus to going hunting, but given our character is martial it might make sense to desensitize ourselves to killing mammals in the 150-300 lb range.

Battle or a duel to the death would be the wrong time to lose our nerve.

[X] Agree to go on a small hunt with her.

We can win the Dance before it even begins. All we need to do is make Daemon Targaryen spontaneously combust out of sheer rage.

Honestly, after having resolved the big issue at hand exactly how Viserys and the Small Council wanted to go to a hunt with Rhea is merely a good chance to socialize with one of our vassals and extremely unlikely to stir up any problem... So why not pick it up?

I mean it is not like we are going to miss a tournament, the birth of our sibling, or anything important at King's Landing for arriving one day later...

...we'd know if the Queen was pregnant, I'm pretty sure? That's not really something you hide.

Yeah, pretty much... I was just saying that the biggest consequence of taking Rhea's invitation is that we will arrive a day later at King's Landing... And going for the "soap opera logic" what could happen is that we miss something critical and it messes something up, but fortunately, we don't have anything that could backfire on us that way...

Unrelated to the last vote but two things I'm finding amusing about this quest that I didn't see remarked on:

The Rhaenyra, Jeyne, and Rhea alliance is at this point an alliance exclusively of gay or bi heiresses. In before someone (Arnold maybe?) starts openly speculating about a lesbian conspiracy to impose matriarchy or something.

It's an older meme but the Rhaenyra/Alicent relationship in this is almost literally handmaiden / feudal lord, a much better example actually than the relationship the meme originated from. When Rhaenyra becomes queen it actually will be.

When the Sky Cells drive you batty, what they really do is let you peer past the fourth wall.

...wtf?

Well, I am sure glad I missed that nuttiness in its time.

Though, as for its application to us, well - basically, whatever fancy poetic terminology is used, it's about power imbalance, and the fact of the matter is we will have a power imbalance with everyone. Even our political matches - there could be matches with less of a power balance, but that could actually become a threat for us, so we are seeking husbands that are not heirs and don't have an independent power base.

So basically, our partners being at a power balance disadvantage is sort of kind of just a fact of life for us.

Well, I am sure glad I missed that nuttiness in its time.

There wasn't really any nuttiness - it was just someone who preferred one ship claiming a butch/femme gay ship was more gender-roles compliant than a tomboy/man straight ship, and happened to use funny language, which other people took and ran with.

This isn't intended as an argument against Alicent as a love interest. I just find it funny, because korrasami was a pretty poor fit for the term, but in this case it Alicent is actually literally our handmaiden and we are (going to be) a feudal lord.

Why have you forced me to remember this nonsense.

Because my brainrot wanted company.

But also because it occurred to me that this is kind of how we were helping Alicent be okay with the relationship.

Alicent: "Women aren't supposed to feel this way about other women, it's sinful!"
Rhaenyra: Well I'm a feudal lord and you're a handmaiden.
Alicent: What?
Rhaenyra: that makes it straight according to tumblr user etheraxis
Alicent: Rhaenyra, that's the silliest-
Rhaenyra: *flexes*
Alicent *blushing*: I mean, just because you're strong, brave, and noble and every other quality romanticized by Westeros for me except in a package I'm actually attracted to-
Rhaenyra: *flexes harder*
Alicent: …we can make this work.

The Queen Who Bore The Sword by Diriatzin

"Rhaenyra the Radiant"
The Queen Who Bore the Sword

Without text!

Also, this was fun to do. Just a little what if! maybe future Rhaenyra. I have now realized drawing armor is too much work, I have been traumatized by seeing too many armors today.

I wanted to add Blackfyre, Aegon's crown, a cape, the works, she does indeed look radiant! Also added the glass painting behind because I love dramatic lightning even if it's a pain to shade...

Anyways let's steal Daemon Blackfyre's title. We're the cooler Valyrian swordsman anyways!

That is incredibly impressive, thank you so much. Probably gonna make that the title art.
