[X] We're spending HOW MUCH?

ah the best move against hidden people, tax evasion

*insert passive-aggressive remark about the apathy of the thread here*

Before I close voting tomorrow, there's one thing that nobody seems to have realized:

NERV being weakened in the short term means they won't be as effective during the next few Angel attacks.

In my defense, normally a lot of the SRW games today leave a lot of the other angels out and Zeruel normally tends to be the last before wrapping things up.

So was totally counting in that we were going to wrap up the Eva storyline soon

Looking at the wiki we have 3 angels left.

Tabris is 50/50 depending on Kaworu really.

Arael on the other hand is a nasty fucker from what I am reading, on the other hand a lot of the long range problems could be solved if we can take the EVA's to outer space by hooking them with the ships, I know that is how they did it during Alpha 3 for those battles, but depending on the QM that may not be a choice.

On the other hand doubt anything apart from the Lance could do jack shit to this one unless we bring the big guns and even then we may have to deal with a malus to the dice depending on how much it affect the pilots, 50/50 too that the Newtypes either can ignore his shit or are the most affected pilots from the malus.

Armisael is also quite nasty and the canon point where Rei self destructs, fucking joy, fuck, really balancing on whenever I want to kick SEELEE on the coffers or not right now.

I think heading off SEELE's ability to do End of Evangelion long term is more important than dealing with the budget Angels short term. It's not that Arael and Armisael aren't extremely threatening opponents, it's that there's ways to beat them that aren't "throw NERV's resources at them". SEELE, meanwhile, has a multi-pronged attack waiting in the wings for when we're done fighting the Angels for them, and the more we can kneecap that, the better.

We're spending how much sounds pretty good, without tripping that "oh hey, yeah, we know about you, you dirty bastards."

[X] We're spending HOW MUCH?

And I imagine this will do less damage than going for the full Audit right off the bat.

...Also, I left this rotting in the box again. Bleh.

May UE 0084
Office of the Earth Federation Treasury, Dakar

The Earth Federation Treasury is considered one of the least exciting institutions in the known galaxy, said to only be surpassed in monotony and boredom by the New United Nation's Pensions Office.

So it is both surprising and worrying when one Senator Kinsey O'Neill of the Federation Senate's Appropriations Committee barges in through the front door and demands an unscheduled audience with the head of the Treasury.

"S-Senator O'Neill, the head of the Treasury is in the middle of an important call-" The head of the Treasury's secretary attempts to ward off O'Neill.

"I know the head of the Treasury is in the middle of a call with SNRI about their taxation status, and I also know that nothing productive will come of it!" Senator O'Neill retorts before opening the door and barging into the office of the head of the Treasury.

"Senator-?! Sorry, something just came up, I'll have to call you back." The head of the Treasury hastily says before hanging up and attempting to make himself look presentable.

The half-empty open box of muffins on his desk undermines the attempt somewhat.

"Senator O'Neill..." The head of the Treasury says nervously.

"I'm not here to make small talk. I want answers." Senator O'Neill slams a thick manila folder on the head of the Treasury's desk.

"What the hell is this?" The head of the Treasury asks.

"I was hoping you could tell me." Senator O'Neill retorts.

The head of the Treasury opens up the folder and takes a look at the documents inside. His face shifts from confusion to disbelief.

"What...what am I looking at?" The head of the Treasury asks in confusion.

"I don't know, and that's the problem! This morning, I found three folders exactly like this one on my desk. No one could tell me where they came from, and when I deigned to take a look at them, I was shocked, shocked, I say, to find that there's a hidden item worth 1.5 trillion credits in the Federation's General Defense Budget titled 'Project Instrumentality', and no one seems to know what the purpose of it is! Naturally, as a member of the Appropriations Committee, I decided to find some answers!" Senator O'Neill snarls.

The head of the Treasury blanches.

"I...I don't know what this is either. All of the defense budgets I've ever looked at have never mentioned an item like this..." He says helplessly.

"For your sake, I hope you're not lying! We only just managed to shake off the hold of the Vist Foundation last December, like hell am I going to let another conspiracy of some kind take hold of the Federation and give Zeon an excuse to invade us! Again!" Senator O'Neill barks. "If you claim to know nothing about this, then you're going to help me find out more about it!"

Outside the head of the Treasury's office, a clerk who had been walking by perks up before all but sprinting down the hallway in the opposite direction before diving into a bathroom. He takes out an ancient looking device that resembles a pager from the pre-UE days and types in a message.

Leak to the Appropriations Committee. Source unknown. Investigation imminent.

Location Unknown

07: This is a disaster!

09: Indeed. How could the Appropriations Committee have found out about this?

03: With that much money moving around, I'm surprised something like this didn't happen sooner.

04: There are any number of ways this could have happened. What matters now is how we deal with it.

06: Can we not simply assassinate the senator involved?

08: You dolt, he has already involved the Treasury in this! Such a course of action will only generate more suspicion!

00: ENOUGH! 08 is correct, we cannot act rashly. For the moment, we must cease all of our financial activities related to what we've put into the 'Project Instrumentality' item in the Federation budget. Any suspicious transactions made at an inopportune moment could prove to be our undoing.

02: But what about NERV? They are heavily reliant on funding from there!

00: They will simply have to make do with the official budget for now. I have no doubt Gendo Ikari is capable of pinching pennies where it would be appropriate.

The Gobi Desert

You are Li Xingke, and you are leading a contingent of Chinese Federation and Human Reform League forces to investigate what seems to be a Dimensional Distortion that briefly formed in the Gobi Desert. With things in the Earth Sphere so tense, you can ill afford to have another Council incursion so soon after the last one in space.

The Shen Hu flies over a set of dunes, and you see smoke in the distance.

As your forces get even closer, you see the source: it's some kind of half-destroyed ship.

Its appearance doesn't match anything you've ever seen, and what intact parts you can make out certainly don't resemble a Gjallarhorn design.

A squad of Gun Rus and Tierens cautiously approach the ship while a trio of tanks provide cover from atop a nearby dune.

Suddenly, there's a rumbling from inside the ship, and what you realize is a bay door crumples from the inside before being smashed apart.

An enormous pink Super Robot collapses onto the sands of the Gobi Desert as it exits the bay. Upon closer examination, you realize the pink Super Robot is an Evangelion.

You turn to see another Evangelion, this one teal with magenta accents, hanging onto the top of the bay with one hand while clutching an oversized handgun in the other.

Another Super Robot of some kind sidles up next to the teal Evangelion, this one resembling a hunched, bipedal 'retro' mobile weapon design before Variable Fighters and Mobile Suits solidified the humanoid form as the dominant design choice.

"Drop your weapons and exit the ship. We mean you no harm." You say over the Shen Hu's speakers.

The teal Evangelion glances down at its more conventional ally as the pilots seem to have a discussion over comm channels you can't intercept, before the Evangelion lays down its sidearm and exits the ship bay with its hands held up in surrender, while the hunched bipedal machine shuffles out and opens up its cockpit.

A young woman in an officer's uniform also exits the bay, and runs up to the downed Evangelion, pulling on a control on the side and opening up the entry plug. Orange fluid seeps out, and the pilot of the Evangelion-a young woman wearing a pink plugsuit-takes the offered hand before stepping out onto the sands of the desert.

"Please, there are others inside what's left of the ship! Can you help us?" The young woman in the officer's uniform asks.

You give orders for a search and rescue effort into the ship.

RESULTS

Mari Makinami Illustrious, Kotone Suzunami, Mana Kirishima, and Mayumi Yamagishi rescued!

EVA-08, EVA-11 Beta, and TRI-DENT recovered!

Who/what else was recovered from the ship? Pick ONE

[ ] Medical pods containing young women, mobile weapons with round torsos, and numerous weapons containers, all with matching logos.
-Will rescue Angela Balzac and numerous DEVA pilots, along with their Arhans and weapons.

[ ] A half-wrecked Super Robot. In the cockpit, there's a partially burnt photo of a group of elementary school children, with 'Class 5-3' scrawled on the back.
-Recover a heavily damaged Raijin-Oh and nothing else.

Who should everything be sent to?

[ ] NERV
-For better or worse, NERV is the only faction in the Earth Sphere with the closest thing to a complete understanding of how to maintain and repair Evangelions.
-Mari, Kotone, Mana, and Mayumi will be at the mercy of SEELE's machinations.
-Equal odds of EVA-08 and EVA-11 Beta being either repaired or cannibalized for parts given NERV's current financial issues.

[ ] Zeon
-Send the new arrivals to a place where SEELE has no influence or presence.
-Such a large amount of 'cargo' suddenly being sent into space may arouse suspicion...
-Will be entirely dependent on the regenerative properties of EVA biotech for 'repairs' until NERV is free of SEELE's control
-EVAs are not designed for space combat, and fighting in a colony will likely result in massive collateral damage

[ ] Celestial Being
-Celestial Being has numerous locations in the Earth Sphere away from prying eyes. The problem is that none of them were meant to conceal something as large as an Evangelion...
-SEELE will not be aware of the new arrivals-INITIALLY
-Chance of detection increases the longer they stay in one place
-Will be entirely dependent on the regenerative properties of EVA biotech for 'repairs' until NERV is free of SEELE's control

[ ] One of the Super Robot labs
-With all of the allied Super Robot labs having conducted internal investigations to purge any potential influence from SEELE, it should be safe to send the new arrivals to one of them.
-[ ] Which lab were they sent to?
--[ ] Photon Power Labs
--[ ] The Saotome Institute
--[ ] Build Base
--[ ] Big Falcon
--[ ] The Nanbara Connection
-The arrival of something so large to an existing Super Robot lab will arouse suspicion, but SEELE will not be able to investigate further.
-Repairs not dependent on EVA self-regeneration will be possible, but will confirm SEELE's suspicions if they are poorly timed.

[ ] The Black Knights
-Zero created numerous hiding spots for the Black Knights over the course of his campaign against Britannia. One of them happens to be a place that was meant to hide a small number of ships.
-Will not arouse suspicion from SEELE due to the Black Knights' proficiency in covertly moving things around.
-Repairs will be possible, but slow to avoid alerting SEELE.

A/N: Mari is from Rebuild of Evangelion, Kotone is from Evangelion Battlefields, a spin-off mobile game, and Mana and Mayumi are from other spin-off Evangelion games. EVA-11 Beta is an original creation, since I couldn't find out if Kotone actually pilots an EVA in her home game. Angela, DEVA, and the related mechs are from Expelled from Paradise, and Raijin-Oh is from, well, Raijin-Oh. The one that isn't picked will be found and written off as unsalvageable. As for how they were able to enter this dimension, they stole tech from the Council and managed to gain a partial understanding of it, then went 'insert AT Field bullshit' into the blank spaces. Please vote, discuss, and critique!

SEELE: *has a budget of 1.5 trillion credits*

Senator Kinsey O'Neill: "I was something beyond furious."

This is gonna be fun to see that exposed on live tv for everyone to see and react.

Ha get fucked SEELEE.

On the other hand damn this is a damn good haul.

To where to sent it, NERV it out of the question, since they would be on the hands of the old men and the units being used for spare parts tbh wouldn't be the best.

Zeon is also not very good, as stated having them repair by their self regeneration is not the best option aside from probably calling Ribbons, ZAFT, Blue Cosmo or any other of the space threats in there, don't doubt the invaders would find an EVA a pretty good mechanical beast if they get close to it.

Celestial beings stakes in no early discovery and snail repairs, but also higher chanches of discovery the more they stay on one place so also not really a good place.

TBH the super robot institutes and the black knights are realistically the only viable choices, we can get repairs done at a good pace if we keep track to when not to do them or just outright leave the black knigths do it hidden and SEELEE will only confirm things if we time things poorly or won't be able to discover anything whatsoever.

Now for the salvage option.

We either get a fair amount of reals with decent to ace pilots.

Or we get a mythical super robot with direct connection to Eldran aka a guardian spirit from the earth itself and I don't doubt would be able to get pass a lot of things once we can at least repair it as honestly the Raijin-Oh could be mostly compared to a rune god.

I say we go for the Raijin oh, Angela would had been nice, but a lot of the deva units kinda fall off at this point with certain threats without counting that it is just not the same since we didn't rescue frontier setter back then, having them both would had made me drop the Raijin-oh, but well cannot be a beggar..

As for who to sent the EVA's, I say the Saotome institute if we want good repairs or the black knights if we want to play it safe.

[X] Medical pods containing young women, mobile weapons with round torsos, and numerous weapons containers, all with matching logos.

[X] The Black Knights

Kinda feeling risky, so going for Saotome, without counting they had direct access to NERV files..

Edit: changed to black knights, guywithideas is right that if SEELEE does discover us this turn would had been moot.

Keep in mind that the Raijin-Oh is heavily damaged, in an even worse state than Gunbuster was when you retrieved it. When I say you get a half-wrecked Raijin-Oh and nothing else, I mean it. There's no technical manual, notes from the previous pilots, or anything of that kind, and even the few intact computers aboard it have their OS irreversibly corrupted.

You'd basically have to start from scratch, with only the wreck of the Raijin-Oh as a starting point. Gunbuster already fulfills the niche that Raijin-Oh would fulfill, and it's basically almost repaired. You would have to start a multi-turn investment (I'm talking around 8-12 turns from reverse engineering, to repair, to finding suitable pilots) that isn't guaranteed to pan out in your favor at a time when a lot of things are going to start happening quickly.

Remember that in Raijin-Oh, class 5-3 had to start with nothing but what they were given by Raijin-Oh's original pilot. You'll have even less than that.

NVM then.

In with the reals I say as I changed my vote.

The gunbuster is already eating us as it is with the time spent on it without counting the resources, the gunbuster while a super, was entirely man made which means we had better chances to repair it even without the pilots which I thanks god we got both Noriko and Kazumi.

Hell we got lucky this turn with the crit, otherwise we would be going for 5 turns on the gunbuster instead of the normal 4.

The Raijin-oh would probably eat even more budget away due to their fantasy nature thanks to the Eldran connection.

With how we are on the timeline, the Raijin-oh wouldn't be ready until probably the final stages of the conflict with the council.

So good to have Angela on board.

Surprised nobody caught the Stargate SG-1 reference.

Senator Kinsey + Colonel Jack O'Neil -> Senator Kinsey O'Neill

For reference, in Stargate SG-1, Senator Kinsey found out about the Stargate Program because as head of the Appropriations Committee, he demanded to know why the US Air Force was funneling billions of dollars into a project only known as 'Area 52'.

Also waffled a bit on whether or not the ship Mari and co arrived in was the Wunder or the Genesis Ark, and I decided that it's the Genesis Ark.

...I really need to look more into XfP. That was a weird addition to SRW T, and it caught my eye, but I haven't really sat down to take a look at any shows for a while now.

I definitely noted the reference, but I think my brain just short circuited because I was suddenly imagining Jack with Senator Kinsey's face and that is a terrifying image.

A far less terrifying monstrosity. I do have to hope that we don't have a chance of accidentally finding a Project Bluebook in all the other treasury nonsense

I can just imagine him complaining he had to be the one with this job but since everyone competent ended up dying in the line of duty he was stuck with short end of the stick.

True and he might get along well with Blex Forer and work with the AEUG to reform the Federation (it was their group's original purpose but took a backseat in favor of taking down the Titans first and then unfortunately they quietly disbanded after majority of members died or returned to the Federation or to civilian lives while Char lost faith in humanity and embraced his antagonist role in CCA).

Missed the reference because Senator O'Neill has not yet had the opportunity to hit a golf ball through a dimensional rift and claim a distance record.

God that was the best episode, possibly of television generally.

Anyway I'm totally unfamiliar with Raijin-Oh AND Expelled from Paradise, but it sounds like the former is another big resource sink like Gunbuster and frankly, we're having enough problems with Gunbuster.
