Disciples of Red Dew Sect (Cultivation Riot Quest)

As OOC advice, you might want to consider if trying to gift the lady who bestowed on you the title Outer Disciple Most Forward And Delicious Bait Whose Buttocks Bring All The Hungry Spirits Beasts To The Yard for trying to steal from her might be unwise.

So, given that we're probably gonna be dealing with this stuff soon, given the uh... risky nature of some of the upcoming missions:

How do injuries work? How does recovering from them work? How does Qi work, and how do we recover it?

Do the people who have the Manual of Harmony of Heaven and Earth have a rough idea of what the technique actually does, beyond being a group based technique?

What kind of things can Disciples purchase with Silver or Spirit Stones, either at the Sect or at Roaring Furnace City?

How do duels work, as a formal system?

The Wait List
After some discussion on the Discord I have decided that it would be a good idea to handle the issue of new characters with a bit more detail instead of having a vague character limit. So here's how it's going to work. The number of active characters I will allow is 35. Everyone who has made a character before this point is on the list. I think that's 34 so there's room for one more.

Any characters made after we hit 35 will go on the wait list which I will maintain here. If the number of active characters drops below 35 I will accept new ones from the wait list. If someone's character dies then they can make a new one, but it will go on the wait list.

As a bit of heaven's fortune and because I know people tend to like their characters I will say that if your character would die you can choose to have them saved, but be critically injured. Which basically means they'll go on the wait list, but you can play them again when their turn comes up. Although they'll likely take some losses in the process of recovering.

If you get injured you will take -3 to your rolls until you are healed. You can heal by successfully resting in the infirmary. Doing so will negate your penalty for that action, but you still need to succeed on the roll. You can also get healing elixirs to help, and of course getting a more powerful cultivator to heal you will be greatly beneficial.

You can spend qi from your qi pool to gain a +1 on your action. You can also spend qi to activate more powerful techniques. Your qi pool is equal to your spirit. However you cannot spend Qi until you temper your Heart. You can recover 1 qi each turn naturally and more by meditating or absorbing spirit stones.

Harmony of Heaven and Earth seems to be a technique about linking your qi so it can be used in more powerful techniques. By which I mean higher realm ones.

You can purchase body tempering elixirs, pure essence pills, raw materials in the form of more spirit stones, spirit herbs, spirit beast carcasses, and natural treasures. Technically you can purchase tools, weapons, and armor, but they're probably out of your price range. You can also purchase basically any variety of mortal good. Food, furniture, literature, etc.

If you mean in character duels basically require two cultivators to face off and fight with more official ones needing a referee usually of a higher realm who can step in if things go bad. Mechanically it's just a roll off.

Wuyin shakes her head.

"... I think it does. Though he is gone, his presence remains. This Sect, remains. His technique, which bears his name. We... we are cultivators. Once, we had the privilege of ignorance. Of just... going along with our place in the world. But now... now we must walk our own paths. And to do that, we must answer that frustrating existential question that plagues all who live in this world. Why? I do not believe the action you wish to pursue is wrong. But I also do not think you should do so without understanding why it is you do it. Emulation is not enough for a cultivator. And if you wish to follow in the late Baron's footsteps... then you will need to understand why. Because the Baron's kindness was born out of the answer he found when he asked that question. He became the Baron, because he asked himself why. His kindness, was born of the question of why. He is gone from this world now, but his technique remains. And I believe you, Mei Qin, can only take the first step of your path by learning this technique of his. Because it contains a small part of the reason of why the Baron chose to be kind."

Mei Qin had some small amount of difficulty following Wuyin's long, extended statement; spoken practically without breath. Mei Qin felt as though it verged on rambling, the way Wuyin spoke. Had it not been for what little enlightenment Mei had of her own, it was probable she would not have understood the other woman at all.

Yet Mei Qin said nor did anything to interrupt, she merely smiled politely as if everything were as right as could be. And fortunately, as things were, what little enlightenment she did have did allow her to put Wuyin's words in order, if only barely.

"I may not know why our late Baron chose to be a good man, but I know why I choose to emulate his ways." Mei Qin replied.

"I choose to follow his example because the world can be a very cruel place." She continued, her tone taking a very noticeably somber shift. "Winter cares not for who freezes, it is as cold as it desires. The river thinks nothing of who might drown within it. Death comes as it pleases, and cares nothing for the consequences of whose lives it claims."

"It might be considered the most natural thing to follow this example. Tragically, many do. They think nothing of others beyond how they benefit from exploiting them."

"Alas, were we all to live this way, it would make for a very ugly world indeed."

"I follow the Baron's example because I choose to reject the cruelty of the world as it desires to be. It is in rejecting that cruelty that we are all made stronger, and the world is a more beautiful place for it."

"And I follow his example...because it is the right thing to do." Mei Qin concluded, a soft smile returning to her face, though one tempered by a certain weariness. "To follow his example, to show kindness and generosity to others, to know that others lives are better because of it...it brings a feeling that is most enjoyable."

Sorry to be slow on this, but my understanding is that we are doing a main action and cultivating in the background. Does this mean if we have an elixir, then we can use it to boost our cultivation role without spending an action on it? So I could say attend the lecture and take the elixir and cultivate?

"... I wonder... no, never mind. Thank you for the discussion. I think... I think that that is all that needs to be said, for now. But I am glad to call you friend, Mei Qin, even if I don't make much sense most of the time."

And with that, Wuyin wanders off.

Looks like everyone is willing to do fortune. I don't know if you are all interested in also making it a group action but if you are I will edit my action to join in.

Yes, and as long as you note that in your action plan.

Hey @Arcanestomper sorry to keep bugging you about the same thing but I just wanna make sure I understand it. So my water qi cultivation technique, will that give some kind of bonus to rolls or additional die on the cultivation action? And if so, should I be noting that technique down in my turn orders to remind you to include that bonus?

It will give you one additional die on cultivation rolls. For techniques noting them would be helpful, but since they are set part of your characters I will have them on my sheet as well.
