Disciples of Red Dew Sect (Cultivation Riot Quest)

Wuyin, still reeling and somewhat incoherent from all that she'd seen through the Rainbow Eyes, stands on a box she'd gotten from.... somewhere, in front of the now empty mission board as the Disciples milled about between their duties and their training. She would have stood on the barrel, but Hanyi had gotten all of them. ALL, of them.

snip

And finally, finally, the mad girl stepped off her crate and wandered off to do who knows what who knows where.

In the first row, a monochromatic disciple with his neck bounded by a neck collar inscribed with formation was staring at Wuyin straight in the eyes. After the declaration, a tentative nod of assens (as much a man with his neck inside a cast could do, at least) was the only response before the disciple left.

Several disciple got an encounter with Liang during the festival. Without a word, the Disciple would appear near them from an unexpected angle with a box wrapped in white cloth stained with soot stains, gifting the package and leaving after a tentative bow. The box would contain an Iron Meal and a small message: "Grow stronger to protect the sect".

-[X] Check on the charcoal makers, to see how they are faring after the Beast Tide. Help them if possible. Spend the rest of the time praying near the Shrine of Grandfather Ash, to pay respect during this Summer Festival.

While from the external the Fire Disciple looked calm, some small signs betrayed a nervous behavior. He still remembered the moment during the Beast tide, while he was reducing to cinders the beasts attacking the walls, when the Magma Bear came. A towering beast, emanating an heat that made even Liang flinch. He tried to use his technique, but simply it wasn't enough. Like a cloth doll, the Magma Bear slammed him against the trees. The impact removed all the air from his tempered lungs, breaking the external bark of the tree and almost doing the same to his neck. The other disciple managed to keep the bear at bay while he was moved to the healers, but Liang maintained contact with the bear as long as it was possible.
It wasn't enough
His technique perfected by the help of his Elder and his training regime wasn't enough. If there was a thing that needed to be destroyed and forgot, that Magma bear was it. And yet his fire was not enough.

With his mind in tumult, he decided to pray to Grandfather Ash to calm down. Maybe the prayers would gave him a new direction to go with his Path.

(Preferibably Ash Insights)

Bingxi gave a scared yell when a disciple she didnt know seemingly appeared out of nowhere giving a unknown packgage, only for him disapear seconds later. Frightned and a bit suspicious of this stranger, she only dared to open the package when she met with Stan Li and Sun Won who also had received it. Feeling more secure, Bingxi decided to trust her senior disciple kind intentions... Nobody would be crazy enough to distribute poison to fellow disciples in the Sect, right?

Sun Won was in the middle of meditation when he heard the steps of another disciple who would give him a wrapped gift and left without a word. Frankly he was unsure of the meaning behind gifting him a package, but when Bingxi came with her own story of the disciple giving her a similar package, Sun Won considered this may be a test of some kind from their senior siblings of the Sect and opened it in the comforts of his own room.

The Meal itself was surprising enough, but the note was what drew Sun's eyes. It was simple, yet telling, he along with his fellow disciples were being trusted to grow stronger and with the protection of the Sect and it's inhabitants. It would be improper to let his senior's down with such trust in him, especially after the recent Beast Tide.

Interlude 3: Daiki at the Midsummer's Festival
[X] Daiki Inoue
-[X] Attend the festival
Daiki Inoue, as always with his long hair tied back and his usual gaunt features softened by a rare smile, stepped into the vibrant heart of the midsummer's festival. The mortal market, already usually being a bustling hub of commerce, had natuarally become a sea of laughter, smiles, and other sounds pleasantry with the coming of the festival. Colorful lanterns hung overhead, casting a warm glow on the stalls adorned with festive decorations. The air was filled with the sounds of excited talks, music, and the enticing aromas of festival foods. Daiki, often found buried in ancient texts or meditating in seclusion, felt an unusual sense of excitement. His warm orange eyes, usually so focused and intense, now sparkled with curiosity as he wandered through the festive streets. Though he had already spent his 50 silver taels, he was prepared to use his precious spirit stones to fully immerse himself in the celebration.

His first stop was at a food stall where a jovial vendor was preparing a variety of traditional festival dishes. Having spent all his silver, Daiki handed over a spirit stone to purchase a sampling of grilled skewers and savory dumplings. The vendor's eyes widened in surprise at the valuble currency, but he accepted it with a grateful nod. Daiki savored each bite, the flavors a delightful contrast to his usual austere diet, and he found himself momentarily lost in the simple pleasure of good food. As he continued through the festival, Daiki's attention was drawn to a stall selling intricate masks. Each mask was a work of art, depicting mythical creatures and legendary heroes. Intrigued, Daiki selected a mask resembling a sturdy horse, the mask made of a smooth pale white wood. The mask had a wide toothy grin that was deeply carved, despite this its features were still carefully crafted to convey the power, nobility, endurance, and prosperity often associated with horses. He handed over another spirit stone, tying the mask to his belt and knowing that it was well worth the purchase and a great find. He thought to himself that he should tell his comrades of this store before the festival concluded.

The festival's main square was alive with activity, and Daiki found himself drawn to a group of performers setting up for a traditional dance. The performers moved with grace and precision, their colorful costumes flowing with each movement. Daiki watched in silent admiration; his usually agitated demeanor softened by the beauty of the performance. The dance depicted a timeless story of love and valor, resonating deeply with his scholarly pursuits.

Amidst the crowd, Daiki noticed a small gathering of children eagerly listening to an elder recounting folktales. Despite his usual reluctance to engage in casual conversation, he felt compelled to join them. The elder's storytelling was captivating, weaving tales of ancient heroes and mythical creatures that sparked Daiki's imagination. For a moment, he felt a sense of camaraderie with the children, sharing in their wonder and excitement. As the evening progressed, Daiki found himself at a booth where festival-goers could write wishes on paper lanterns. He hesitated for a moment, contemplating the significance of this tradition. With careful thought, he inscribed his wish for enlightenment and wisdom, hoping to deepen his understanding of the Dao. Having written his wish, he released the lantern into the sky, watching as it joined countless others, each carrying the hopes and dreams of those below.

In the festival's final hours, Daiki stumbled upon a quiet corner where a small group of scholars had gathered. They were engaged in a spirited debate about ancient texts and cultivation techniques. Despite his usual preference for solitude, Daiki felt a kinship with these like-minded individuals. He joined their discussion, sharing his insights and learning from their perspectives. The exchange was invigorating, reminding him of the joy of shared knowledge.

As the festival drew to a close, Daiki felt a sense of fulfillment. The midsummer's festival had been a welcome respite from his rigorous studies, offering moments of joy, reflection, and connection. As he made his way back to his scholarly pursuits, the memories of the festival lingered in his mind, a reminder of the beauty and complexity of the mortal world. With renewed determination, he looked forward to the challenges and discoveries that lay ahead, knowing that even a scholar could find wisdom in the heart of a midsummer's celebration.

Maybe I can buy some more exotic ink from merchants while I am in town as well... if I have time... I accidentally used some of my nice ones while my eyes were altered... Oh! I can pick up some gifts for my book club! I bet they would appreciate that! (Cheng Nan did not, in fact, get around to buying anything. Too busy helping around actual professional healers and not being allowed to interact with patients.)

After discussion on the Discord I have decided to change how Insights are gained. You no longer gain them through meditation. Instead you gain one Insight per action. With an additional insight if you fail or are injured. Omakes will also still grant insights.

In light of this I am also going to give every active player one free enlightenment of their choice. Please do not tell me your choice now since that would spread them all over. I will make it an option in the Turn 14 action so it's all in one place.

Will that make all the peak soldiers automatically break through?

What's an enlightenment do?

An enlightenment is your character's comprehension of the Dao. With increasing enlightenments they gain a more profound understanding of the world. This allows them to affect it more directly.

The largest quest consequence of this is that you need at least one enlightenment to break through to Forged Soldier. And more are better. Having enlightenments also helps with researching techniques and recipes for elixirs and artifacts.

Interlude 3: Dreams of Distant Swords
Diary of Do Mwin

Fragmentary dreams of Distant Swords

I am fervent in my conviction now to write upon that which I have dreamt, I have seen fragmented stories of times far flung and worlds distant; I have seen lands of great stone forts encircled by rivers and in which a king is chosen by a great divinity by way of sword but the sword is all that is known to me; I see many islands where the sea is held up by a great spear, yet the spear is all that is shown to me; I see swords that cause wounds that never heal and spears that burn entire cities… and… and… I cannot remember fully what I was writing until reading it back, I cannot fully understand what the me of then had seen, yet further understanding of forge has come to me but little and I shall seek the alchemists, I feel as if I have indulged too heavily in alcohol though I had none.

Interlude 3: More Than Habit
[X] Zao-Zao
[X] Give Stan-Li 75 Spirit Stones
[X] Meditate upon Meticulousness gaining his last insight needed for an enlightenment.

More Than Habit

Qi makes you more than you are. Which makes what you do with it more than habit. You shape your behaviors and they in turn shape you. Demonic Cultivators, are demonic, Jade Beauties, practice their beauty.

Zao-Zao is no different. Meticulousness is his path to perfection. Because perfection requires precision and control. A sloppily uncontrolled punch may be thrown perfectly once. It will never make a perfect pugilist though. He wishes to become the perfect disciple, the perfect warrior, the perfect cultivator. He can feel how close to a change in his Qi he is. The Qi itself is starting to feel Meticulous, precise, controlled, like perfectly polished soldiers standing in formation.

He remembers watching a parade once of the mortals for fight to protect from the lowest of threats the empire faces.
His Qi feels like those controlled precise steps, the timing matching with his heart beat.

He feels better able to control every little part of himself, his mind and feelings becoming, ordered, organized, meticulous.

Part of that Meticulousness is being a disciples who's behavior is so far beyond reproach that poor behavior is unthinkable.
So when by chance he comes across a new disciple trying to learn the crafting arts he makes a simple decision to aid the very slightly younger disciple.

"Take this bag of Spirit-Stones. I was paid for fighting in the beast wave, but I need no payment to do my duty. I understand that getting started as a crafter is expensive, but can bring great strength to the sect. So it is only fitting if as your senior I ensure you have what you need to serve the Red-Dew Sect effectively."

He also makes sure to have this conversation fairly loudly and around other disciples, hoping to quietly influence a few more to put their spirit stones to good use for the sect. It would not harm them to make friends with a young disciple learning to become a craftsman.

Wuyin heads down to the Archives with Tien and some treats in tow to research what exactly seems to be limiting the growth of the Sect's Best Kitten, and what can be done in aid of that. Having each a proper artifact to channel their still new innate Lunar Qi, the twins proceeded to practice with said pair of Lunar guqins both in harnessing said Lunar Qi as well as adjusting themselves to the new set of strings that seemed to dance at their fingertips. The sound of music filled with more intent seemed to emanate from their abode that the Righteous Wildfire Sect allocated to them for their current visit...
[X] Sun Won has always held the beliefs and practices of the various Monks of the lands in high regard, and some he hopes to honor them with his path as a Cultivator of the Heavens, but his path will be long and he worries that he may die before he could truly honor them with a Technique of his own. The feelings, compounded by the fact that two others had reached Soldier before him, made him feel like perhaps he wasn't focusing on the correct things. Maybe he was missing something. Something important that would help him reach the next level. Though what that could be, he didn't know. So, he chose to do something that could help clear his mind: Spend with time with the mortals of the Red Dew Sect. Working with them, helping with construction projects, finding any who might have been missed after the battle was over. Anything they needed, he would help them with. While he wasn't sure if this would help him, he did know that it made him and those people happy. And that's what mattered to him.

[X]Xingyun Xing sighed, staring at the disciple a few metres away from him who had not been invited to go listen to the music coming from the twins' abode."She looks so…lonely". He whispered under his breath, noticing the way the sunlight seemed to dim as if afraid to outshine her. He had seen both sides of the coin more times than he could count, light versus dark, heads versus tails.`` Why…how does this keep happening? ".Music began to fill the area as he noticed a tiny flake of Gan Jia's herbs had drifted into his pocket.Today he had once again seen proof that there is a third side to the coin just for the chosen. Xing began to make his move. He felt the coin flip twice, every step he took made a creaky sound, a drink came flying and landed in his hand, but he made it to his objective. "Hi, im Wa…Xing would you like some company? It seems I'm pretty bad at leaving heavenly people alone". The girl woke up from her nap.
[X] Jiang Chen, while not having had the time to truly study the technique, possesses a book on the refinement of the body to aid Cultivation progress. While incorporating a technique he hasn't truly comprehended into his Cultivation base is inadvisable, to put it mildly, there are some lessons he has gleaned that could aid him in understanding the process of improving his organs, particularly the furnace of his heart. And so it is that Jiang Chen, despite the major wounds still healing across most of his body, ends up meditating atop one of the lower peaks of the Red Dew Mountain, covered in naught but a loincloth, a large number of bandages, and copious amounts of blade oil. He isn't quite sure why several of his fellow disciples keep wolf whistling as they pass him, though.
[X] Tan Bo goes to the sections of the fortifications that were broken in the Beast Tide and starts to scavenge some of the damaged materials. At least some of the stuff should be useable for repairs and he could probably find some use for the rest of it. Interlude 3: Meditating
Meditating: A Jiang Chen Omake
Jiang Chen sat atop one of the many peaks of the mountain upon which rested the Red Dew Sect, legs crossed and eyes closed as he contemplated the truth of the Sword. Naked, with the exception of a loincloth to preserve his modest and a number of bandages holding shut his injuries from the beast tide (He flinched, convinced he sensed the shadow of Sister Wuyin's pet Tien's presence nearby. Even the idea of its claws invoked a degree of dread in him), a coating of Sword oil slathered over his body, to get him in the proper mindset for his current task.

Be the sword. Be the sword. Be the sword. Be. The. Sword. He could feel the cold wind biting into his skin, his Peasant body the only reason he could handle this without freezing to death at the towering altitude he found himself at, but the discomfort was terrible, and only grew worse with every passing second. It did not help that he could feel the sword oil seeping into his bandages, which he would definitely need to change later, and for the Emperors sake, why did his fellow disciples keep making that infernal whistling noise when they walked by?

No, calm, cast aside all emotion, all thought, until all that remains is the sharpest of blades. A sword does not fear, it does not rage, nor does it shiver. These are all flaws passed into it by the wielder. Instead, the sword simply cuts. In a good wielders hand, it only cuts what it is directed to, in a poor ones, it cuts what it should not, but in the end, the sword is not fazed by any of these things, it does not rage against the foe who slew its past owner, nor does it tremble at the sight of the blade that shall shatter it, it simply is what it is, and does what it does.

A cold chill swept through Jiang Chen's body, and he realised he had not taken a breath for the past half hour or so, sustained solely by the impressive lung capacity of a Cultivator, combined with his awakened Qi. The sound of deep breaths echoes through the empty mountain peak, as the sword that was planted there returns to being a young man once more, but this is not the last time he shall brush against this Path. No, there will be many occasions in the future for him to realise the truths he has uncovered.

(Sword Insight, please.)
