Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Actually:
[X] Write-in: determine how hard the situation is to fix before making a decision
-[X] Have Harry demonstrate how he would do sabotage under laboratory conditions
--[X] Call relevant specialists
--[X] Observe using everything: ATB, Hellscry Chakra, excellencies, all bonus dice adders and difficulty reducers that we can think of applying
--[X] Use the tampered-with weapon as a Crown focus to find what scalable methods of protection against similar sabotage already exist

Can anyone think of a stunt?

How about this? 🤓

-[] Stunt: You can't prevent a wince from showing on your face at Harry's revelation, but you follow it with a wry smile. "Well, Harry, I guess there is only one recourse." You pause for a moment, crack your knuckles and pop your neck, then continue, "We're gonna science the hell out of this problem. And by science, I mean mad science..." Clippy gets in on the act, her timing perfect, as she releases an electronic 'Mwahaha!' from her speaker.

We should do a proper inquiry utilising the expertise available to us before making a desicion - plus this will give the Courts data to begin working on potential fixes for this problem in the future, even without our own assistance/involvement.

We can do better. Lord of the Land to make Lightening and Thunder for proper drama!

@DragonParadox, could we save any AP by choosing a hybrid approach where we provide as many Kindled spirit-weapons and/or tools as possible and then make up the shortfall by summoning and binding Wicked City spirits?

Arc 10 Post 25: Technological Solutions
Technological Solutions

18th of December 2006 A.D.

No sooner had you made the issue known to the engineers of the City of Law where the weapons were made that Logistician of the Unstopable Company himself seeks an audience with you, seeming to take personal offense that the weapons his factories provided could be so easily defeated.

That is how Harry came to stand on a steel chamber with weapons and other devices set upon a steel table, the walls covered with pipes and valves ringed with runes of power all of which flow to a rectangular cut out that leads into the observation room.

"Weird door," he mutters as he gets into the machine though the gap. A moment later it whirs to life ad though that gap flows a crude oil drawn from the hallowed well of the attending spirit. It does not spill or drip held in place by techno-sorcerous pact.

"What the...?" you hear muffled from the other side. You are not sure what Harry sees, but from this angle the sheet of crude ripples with rainbow colors then turns transparent, more than transparent, lending the elemental's own charmed sight to observers. A spiderweb of greenish light runs though the brass of the weapons, though it is far outshone by the wizard himself. One might, feeling poetic call the patterns of light and darkness in Harry's aura a starry sky, personally you think it is more like a fireworks display slowly orbiting around a central point.

"OK do your thing." you call into the microphone.

For the next hour and a half all of you watch in silence as the lights of Harry's aura organize into ad-hoc geometries dizzying in their complexity and yet so very simple in intent, to create within their lattice a program akin to the one the devices hold, with one subtle alteration, one fatal flaw then presses it home rippling though the stack.

"It's because they are the same," you muse aloud.

Somehow the glass and steel gaze of Ancient Luc grows even colder as he looks over the results. He whirs: "Initiating Outcome Alternating Subroutines. Clear!" Everyone around him takes a step back including you, not being such a fool as to ignore safety warnings. A moment later he continues: "Using flaw in serialized production," he confirms your earlier thought. "Capacity to make changes without specialized tools prodigious. Instinctive understanding of High Code 5505. Programing alteration insufficient to resolve vulnerability. Searching for potential hardware blueprints. Nul Result."

Now he sounds outright offended.

"New blueprints could be designed, new assembly machines set up," a blue-capped seta engineseer says with a squish-shrug of his tendrils. "It would take three moonturns, four perhaps."

"Perhaps?" the Exarch asks, his voice dangerously low.

"Spot estimation," the technician says, seeming to wilt away from his many-eyed gaze.

Before the conversation can continue you raise a hand. "Maybe I can come up with something."

"Query: Outcome Altering Subroutines?" Elder Luc Asks.

What does Molly reply?

[] Sure, Ancient Luc will use Outcome Altering Subrutines (Fortune ●●): +2 Dice to INT+Technology roll; a botch manifest as a curse of like severity lasting several weeks

[] Get the most powerful fortune-weaver in the city (Fortune ●●●●) in here, you will get those designs done today +4 Dice. Impact of a botch would linger and require dispelling

[] No thanks, you will deal with it

[] Write in

OOC: So... Ancient Luc has fortune, he is not the best at it but it is decent enough to use and as I was rolling it occured to me that you could just get someone with Fortune 4 in here and push that design though if you are willing to take the risk.

We can unmake curses on ourselves with trivial ease.

We are our perfect self and can undo any unwanted alteration.
We got a very expensive Charm for that.

You can resist curses perfectly, but in case of unintentional curses because someone botched a roll you would have to lower those defenses or you would not get the bonus

System: Whenever the character is the subject of any supernatural power that seeks to transform, infect, taint, transport, or control her body or spirit, she may reflexively spend 1 Essence or 1 Willpower and roll Willpower against difficulty 7. Success undoes the hostile magic
before it can finish affecting the Infernal

Since the charm is reflexive I am willing to give you a Perception+Awareness roll to realize it it going sour and turn it off before it can catch hold, but if that fails you are stuck with the curse until you gain some way to take off ongoing curses.

I kind of want to let him try? But at the same time I am curious about this fortune weaver. And of course our own abilities...

I don't want Molly to be a person who has others jump away from whatever they are doing at her whim.

So either the present one, or none at all.

-[X] Use the Crown with Occult excellency boost beforehand to give Ancient Luc advice on how to improve his technique, similarly to how you helped harry Soulgaze you safely. Don't use Luc himself as a focus - use the current scene where he already used it as one.
-[X] Use all boosts yourself when trying to come up with a solution, including CCC

@DragonParadox does TLF apply here? There are two reasons why it should:
1) The flaw is also almost certainly applicable to environmental protection gear, so we are protecting our people from the environment by fixing a flaw in their equipment
2) The weapons / equipment as bodies / housing for little spirits. We are protecting them from earthly environment here.

We can't CCC in the courts.

Ok, so I have a question.

So if a wizard gets access to someone's gun for any length of time they can essentially cast a spell that makes it explode if someone pulls the trigger...

How is that any different than them casting an entropy curse that causes a regular gun to send the slide backwards to impale someone in the eye the moment it is fired?

Like, mage is a game of paranoia and obsessive control where you cannot trust anything you do not carefully ensure NEVER falls into the hands of your enemies. Never give out your name. Never leave so much as a hair or drop of blood where your enemies can get it.

There is a very simple solution to this problem. Stick the gun in a holster attached to the wizard who is going to use it and don't let it leave their side. Verify that the gun hasn't been messed with before handing it to the wizard.

But no alteration can make an unsupervised weapon the enemy lays hands on safe because a wizard can make a half brick in a sock into a booby trap.

What you are trying to make in this case is weapons and what you are seeking to protect them from is enemy wizard action so unfortunately no.
