You have to weed your garden regularly, or the weeds will come back.
Doesn't mean it's better to let it grow over.
Farming a garden requires literally being there day to day, with ongoing surveillance and intervention against everything from weeds to pests to vandals.
You dont just plant and leave and come back at harvest.
Again, look at the US invasion of Iraq and the US's subsequent efforts to stabilize the place, and remember that Latin America in 2006 is ~20x the population of Iraq and at least an order of magnitude the surface area.
Its not out of our capability because Solaroid with an empire, but it is a significant problem that we would need to acknowledge and invest major ongoing effort into. Not a situation where you overthrow the governing structures and walk away with a mission accomplished banner as the region breaks down into chaos and war.
The US is still seeing blowback from its actions in Latin America in the 1970s and 1980s.
I didn't invent "cure for drugs is an OD" thing either:
Sounds like teenage hyperbole.
Easy to confirm with the QM one way or the other.
Drug effects on the nervous system would be the cause of death by an overdose. Physiological addiction symptoms are also highly likely to be corrected by the turn of the Wheel.
Drug effects =/= addiction.
Being addicted to a drug is almost never a cause of death to my understanding of human biochemistry.
Deliberately administering a lethal overdose of a drug is not a normal feature of addiction.
Nonlethal addiction symptoms wont be touched by the Wheel as described. Whether physiological OR mental.
You wont stop being a coffee addict because a lethal overdose of caffeine was administered to you, or an alcoholic because someone drowned you in alcohol.
Or a marijuana addict because someone forcefed you enough kush to literally die for, assuming thats possible.
COMMENTARY
-Well, Seeker gets a front row seat to a transition.
-Multiple intelligence agencies? Oh god.
-Okay, families. Thats kinda calculated to be a hot button for Molly, given her own personal experience with the fetches.
These are mindgames, of course, but we can afford to arrange extractions. Arianna even gave us cash.
Or we could just go ourselves in the daytime; its not like there are very many Reds with fleshmasks capable of walking around in daytime south of the US border.
Well, looks like we have the dice gods opinion on events.
It's probably too late now even if we did want to send them back.
The reds are exactly the type to punish people for simply being nearby when something they don't like happens, and as potentially valuable as what little information they have is I doubt the reds will let them trade it for the status quo instead of taking it by force.
This.
They were always going to do this to any survivors of Arianna's retinue.
The question is whether we were going to just let it happen, or not.
Let's be realistic here. We cannot afford to get bogged down. Not yet.
[X] Offer to send them back once things quiet down
This is literally what mercenaries are for.
There's RL mercenaries who specialize in this sort of asset extraction in the third world.
And this setting has people like Goodman Grey doing paid work.
We have a couple million dollars from Arianna. PAY someone for an extraction if you dont wanna go yourself.
Whether its the Fellowship or Monoc Security. Get their names and IDs, and hand them off.
Money is for spending. Spend it.
And thats assuming that Molly doesnt feel like going herself, which she very well could.
IC its the work of a couple hours to show up
in the daytime when most Reds who arent ancients cant afford to be outdoors, find someone and move them into Sanctuary and just not return.
