You know what, that's fair. In the end, one can make an argument for any of the options, and you yourself have successfully argued that all of the options are the villainous option.

"For sure," you agree. "Where did you get them?"
"Why, you want a pair?"
"Yes. I have a roommate who'd enjoy them."
She giggles. "Let me guess, your roommate is very fuzzy and has cute little ears?"
She never told us where she got the ribbon. We could craft a new one, especially since we have a photographic memory, but even if it's the same, stealing it would still be Evil. In fact, it would be Deviously Evil, since we're tricking her.You all overthinking stealing her ribbon. All we really need to do is buy a normal one and find some way to swap them down the lines. Rose told us where she got the ribbon from, if I recall correctly, so unless the ribbon has some sort of symbolic meaning to her, it should be fine to just swap with a normal one.
Wait. There's the Yuu disguise and now the Kai disguise, but who's the third one ?You know, you're the third person I've seen this week who messed up their arm. Is something happening?"
That's KyokoWait. There's the Yuu disguise and now the Kai disguise, but who's the third one ?
"It's not like that," Kyoko says hastily, raising her mobile hand. "I just fell. I promise I wasn't trying to cause problems for anyone."
Oh thank God.
Eh, I think it would be more strategic to try to stop the problem at its source, for which we need to understand what's happening. And, I mean, they're not doing anything harmful right now as far as we can see. - But this kind of being-strategic-and-rational is also very villain coded, so it works out.If we're playing this from a non-villainous perspective, wouldn't it be more selfish (and in line with our villainous mission) to investigate the perpetrators than to try and mitigate the harm they caused?
KYOKO YOU SWEET CHILDKyoko looks up at you with enormous reflective eyes. The hope in them is as fragile as it is breathtaking. "You… believe me?"
You nod without hesitation.
She stares at you for a moment, then scrubs at her face with her sleeve.
I'm so here for her friendship with Zaiyu. It's so cute and she deserves the world (but a friend unequivocally in her corner that doesn't treat her like a broken thing is a good start). She's so tiny she fits right in front of you. Your chin is practically resting on top of her head. If need be, you could pick her up and flee.
AAAAAAAND a nice, cheerful reminder that Zaiyu's from a dystopian society in a death spiral. That was jarring in the best way. This sounds reasonable. Fear of authority figures does tend to be difficult to erase or overcome, even with hypnosis.
I'm currently the guy in the 'Oustanding move!' chess meme. That was actually a really smart and intuitive reaction under pressure. Go Zaiyu. The sound of a door opening behind you cuts you off. You react immediately, tugging Kyoko back into the seating area. Now the two of you look like two kids loitering in a lobby and messing around with the chairs. You're betting that pretending not to be in trouble is a habit that crosses species boundaries.
Zaiyu is concerned for his friend's sad background. Good lad. AlsoKyoko forces a smile. Well, you say 'forced', but it looks very natural. How much time has she spent faking smiles? If you didn't know how stressed and concerned she is right now, you'd think she was genuinely happy to see this person.
CONCERN.Someone on this planet is at least as skilled a mage as you are.
No. In the field of mind magic, at least, they're better.
You know, I think there's a few more layers to this exchange than is first apparent. Kyoko cares deeply about 'Kai' because he treats her like a human being and extends her trust. And later in the update she seemed to have a thing where she just assumes someone's going to blame her for things. So I think her lip trembles because she was told that her 'messing up' is totally fine not because the administrator is also hypnotised but it's abundantly clear that Zaiyu/Kai genuinely does not care that she 'messed up.'"Yeah. I froze up… I should've asked her if she could help."
"It's best you didn't," you tell her. "Administrator Honda is definitely hypnotized, too."
Kyoko's lip trembles. Then she squeezes her shut and breathes deeply for a minute. "How do you know?"
You're a magical alien who knows magic when he sees it, that's how. But you probably shouldn't tell her that. "It's the eyes," you say instead. "There's a haze over them. Like something else is being reflected."
She swallows hard. "Okay. I'll believe you."
That's very nice of her.
Zaiyu: 'I am not qualified to deal with emotional distress.'"Yes," Kyoko breathes, looking stricken. Did she get hurt somewhere along the trip? Or is it purely emotional distress?
You hope it's not purely emotional distress. You are so not qualified to deal with that.
Eventually, you clap her on the shoulder without the cast and say, "Then let's go."
THEY'RE HOLDING HANDS????!!!! Also, Zaiyu is discovering he's touch-starved, can't say I'm surprised. But it's adorable. I can't wait for him to remain a great friend to Kyoko and nothing bad to ever happen. She's warm. Not as warm as an Estil would be, but there's something nice about feeling unshielded heat radiate through your environmental barriers. And another Estil wouldn't have dropped their own defences to touch you. The staticky feeling of two environmental barriers overlapping annoys you.
Okay so the counterpoint here is both hysterical and adorable. You have Kyoko being terrified that people are being taken down into the morgue and getting murdered meanwhile Zaiyu is just standing there going 'I don't know these fancy words' and, of course, doesn't admit it. BUT! He accidentally gives Kyoko the idea that, no, people aren't getting murdered, they might be after something a lot more mundane and she perks up. Also Zaiyu's still paying close attention to his buddy's emotional state. Good lad."That's the basement. Why are they going into the basement?"
You don't know what a basement is. "What's down there?"
"Nothing. Well, maintenance stuff, I guess. Spare equipment, spare beds. Maybe the morgue…" Her voice trails off.
You don't know what a morgue is, either, but her tone suggests it's nothing good. "Does the stuff in there have any connection to the darkroom?"
She starts to shake her head, then stops. Her eyes sparkle.
BAITED! UNFAIRLY BAITED BY THE AUTHOR! THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY!After a minute, she turns back to you with a soft smile. "I just remembered something."
You tilt your head and wait for her to continue. You've found the final area of interest in the hospital, so you can afford to take a minute.
"Before I forget, thank you for this, Kai. It made me really happy to see you again."
What the hell, that's so cute. Like Rins but soft. You want to pat her on the head. You probably would, except that as soon as those words are out, you hear them.
SUS. Maybe he was just lost in the cute moment tho...At the same time, you have no idea how someone managed to sneak up on you so easily.
Hell yeah! Talk up one of your new besties, Zaiyu! She deserves it! I love how his blunt honesty means that he just flat out states compliments that are absolutely great to here for someone with low self-esteem like Kyoko. He inclines his head. "Hello there. Have you been looking after Kyoko?"
"It's more like she's been looking after me." She actually knows how a hospital is supposed to work, after all.
RUDE!Kaoru chuckles. "She does seem like the reliable type. Or maybe you're the one who's unreliable? Just kidding."
Okay so, firstly, I'm giggling Zaiyu's question about contagious broken arms is probably legit. It makes perfect sense! After all, he's just discovered a peer mage on earth somewhere and also knows that he doesn't know how Earth works. Maybe broken arms are contagious here. As for Kaoru, well they're still sus but that's a pretty solid and above board reasoning to look into things. Also woo more people who don't instantly jump on the 'flaws' that Kyoko sees in herself all the time."Really? Are broken arms contagious or something?"
"I hope not. But seriously, if this keeps happening, I'll have to make a note of it. Injured students need accommodations. And if there's an infrastructural cause, I might be able to stop the problem at its source."
"It's not like that," Kyoko says hastily, raising her mobile hand. "I just fell. I promise I wasn't trying to cause problems for anyone."
Kaoru blinks at her. "I didn't think you were?"
"O-oh."
He nudges his head against your hand until you risk petting him.
It has been decided. What the hell, that's so cute. Like Rins but soft. You want to pat her on the head.
It also means any heroes who discover our base can't just rush in and start destroying everything, because of the sheer public backlash of attacking the hospital. It has been decided.
The hospital shall be our future Earth base, since it's clearly the best place to find cute people for headpats.
I think it depends. How exactly would the average Estil view the humans? Another race? Culture? animals what?
I'm asking just cause I want to know what the Estil as a whole would think of the Earth situation.
This is the same update where Zaiyu succeeded on two consecutive magic perception rolls. I think he's just having a good day.Zaiyu: 'I am not qualified to deal with emotional distress.'
Also Zaiyu: 'Immediately removes his friend from the environment causing her distress without making her feel self-conscious about it, at all.'
As I said above, a surprising amount of compassion, given his origins.
I know you probably mean "This mage is a threat to everything Zaiyu won't admit he cares about and probably also the mission," but it sounds more like "Zaiyu's ego is bruised by human mages being better than him".I feel like this is not only the thing Zaiyu would be most worried about (a mage nearby who's superior to him in mind magic? NOT GOOD!)
That is a good argument to make to Shayin (to hide the fact that we want to hang out with Kyoko and maybe find more pattable heads). It also means any heroes who discover our base can't just rush in and start destroying everything, because of the sheer public backlash of attacking the hospital.
