Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Gonna be honest here, this feels like pointless filler.
It won't matter, unless you arbitrarily decide that a specific suggestion happens to hit Mab's taste in cars, which we can't know about.
But Car!

1935 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic

1961 Amphicar Model 700

[X] 1935 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic

Its a classic. What can I say.

The problem with replacing GNSF by By Agony empowered is simple:

How many times did we even reach the part of our health track with penalties? None against any of the bosses, in fact, we barely got scratched by any of them, the akuma did practically nothing.
In fact, just to hammer my point, here's the totality of damages we suffered in the last big fight:
I don't think people are bothered by the bosses though. As pointed out before and in the vote we are rather vulnerable to mooks with guns. Unless I'm missunderstanding something this is an attempt to fix that before it becomes an issue. We don't kill mooks and taking them out otherwise is much more difficult, meanwhile they fully intend to kill us.

There are two real options:

an elegant classic that shows taste and power, something to be driven in

And

A sporty convertible that is fun to drive fast with the top down, something to drive for herself.

Both options work well in clean white. Which we pick will have different impacts, but voters should have Drive or be 'Driven Like a VIP' in mind when they vote.

[X] 1978 Ford Thunderbird
Not a big car guy, only learned about it in a segment from this video:

Specifically the line describing it as "the last gasp of the ancient impulse to meld the industrial and the aristocratic" resonates pretty well with what we are trying to do here imo.

Not even exalted can make something run on nothing. A mirco fusion reactor IE Fallout style could at run it for a few decades without issue at least is about where we top out at.

Well magic is not nothing. Hearthstone drive system, no iron in the construction, etc. Something unique that both shows what Molly can do as well as doesn't leave us in debt for the equivalent in information from Mab. The biggest risks are being in debt to Mab, or worse having Mab feel indebted to us. She has unique information, a car that is also an Artifact should help balance that.

The only lasting magic you have presently is two dots of alchemy. If you want to do exalted crafting you should pick up the charm.

[X] Presidential state car (a Cadillac)

Mab is a head of state. She's not going to be driving her car, if she ever rides in it. She's going to be using a driver, and the car should be protected. So, use what works. Presidential state car. Giving her some sort of sleek sportscar is pointless. She's not Maeve to take it out for a joyride.

So there are currently 10 different voting options...

  • [X] This version of a Bugatti Veyron
    [X] A DeLorean
[X] Copy the McLaren F1, which gives us an advantage since it uses little iron to begin with. Whitest white with pale blue accents for the winter theme.
[X] Car: A sleek convertible, white and pale ice-blue so that Mab can be seen while she goes cruising in her ride, and wield a longsword if the fancy strikes her.
    - [x] If possible, we should try to make the car more off-road capable then a mortal equivilent. No roads in Winter.
    [X]A Monster Truck
    [X] 1935 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic
    [X] 1978 Ford Thunderbird
[x] model it off of a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow
[X] We're an Exalt, give Mab something that is one of a kind. Cyberpunk 2077 Rayfield Caliburn. In pale blue and white, running on literal magic.

The two sides of practicality

[*] COOL CAR!
I'm gonna be real with you peeps. I'm here to see Molly make a cool car, hopefully - if the dice favour us, something really cool.
I'm confident that ya'll are gonna pick something great, so I'm feeling relaxed about the car vote tbh.

From what I gleam from discussions on mechanics, this is Molly's thing and making a car here feels more an opportunity to show off /start off the next scene in a slightly better position as opposed to working on something desperate.

In the story this is preparation for the meeting, but as a(n infrequent) player of the quest, it feels more like a small letting up of pressure before things get intense again meeting Mab.
(Useful thing to do, so no feelings of wasting time, but a total failure feels statistically unlikely (I'm very unclear on mechanics and it depends on what the success thresholds are) and even then will only result in wasted time.

Ah, I was very excited there, until I checked the actual vote again:
[] Craft a gift for Mab, nothing arcane or which demands great recompense of hers, but a hint that your powers are subtle as well as overt and that you are as valuable as an ally as you would be troublesome as a foe
-[] A car with not a singe atom of iron in it
Ah well, I'll see Molly (and hopefully Lydia?) really go out when we get to paying the below, though It'd feel a bit cooler if it were a single masterwork item rather than a small set of marginally lower quality items

RATIONALE
1) Mab is dramatic. Not that she cant do subtle, but when she has the choice, she defaults to attention-getting and memorable.

When she first recruited Dresden, she went to his office personally as a classic femme fatale from detective stories in Summer Knight. When she showed up to his summon in Dead Beat, she flattened the lake when she showed up. When she gave him a mission in Small Favor, she showed up in a blizzard, and again dramatically shows up just after Uriel leaves.

When she eventually made Dresden Winter Knight, she live-streamed fucking him on the Stone Table in every reflective surface in Faerie. Even when we first met at the Museum, she chose to do the dramatic entrance thing.

Basically, Mab is extra. To an extent, I think all Fae are. Cant help themselves.
If you are getting her a gift that will pass muster, you need to keep this in mind.
No Toyota Century's for this woman. And the more exclusive the design the better.

2) Buying Mab a vehicle means giving her something with the option of either driving it herself, or using a chaffeur.
Dont assume which she'd prefer to do; we have seen her walk around unaccompanied, but we have also seen her with an attendant or a few.

3)EV > ICE because EVs have certain advantages.
Much reduced noise pollution. Much reduced maintenance requirements. Also, a lot easier for a heavyweight magic user like her to recharge an EV at her leisure, as opposed to having to remember to source petrol/gasoline as necessary.

Also, no luxury electric vehicles for sale in 2006, so more exclusive.
And with the Fae, bragging rights can matter.

4) Speaking of bragging rights, the Raiths own at least one vintage 1939 Rolls Royce Wraith.
One they lent to Dresden in Turn Coat, iirc.
So no old cars.

I guaranteee that if Mab had ever wanted a vintage whatever, she would already own it.
For all we know, she might already own a full stable of such cars. Just in the real world.
She's been chief executive of Winter for a thousand years; she's Resources YES.

@uju32, great write-in, but you forgot the awesome paintjob. Hard to be dramatic in plain white. Frost patterns and snowflakes? Jagged icicles? Fangs and claws? Something like that. Or maybe one of those holographic paintjobs that's different colors/patterns based on the viewing angle and how the light hits it. Something that glitters like jagged ice and/or shimmers like a fresh coat of snow?

Mostly just spitballing, but come on, plain white like everyone else? Boring. Mab doesn't do "boring."

I considered this:
Color schemes said:
Matte black with chrome trim or white with black trim or metallic blue with chrome or black trim.
Yellow, blue or red brakes to stand out of the wheels.
Ultimately didn't go ahead because it occurred to me she'd change it.

I mean, Mab is Fae Royalty. Glamor is their thing. Her first appearance in the series had her looking like someone else.
When she gets irritated the color of her hair and her dress can change in real time depending on her mood or what duties she chooses to emphasize at the time. We saw it happen when King Corb showed up in Peace Talks.

Without iron fucking with stuff, she can probably layer enough magic on it to change the color of the vehicle at will.

And really, luxury cars don't really lend themselves to garish color schemes.
The color matters, but there can be worlds of difference between two nominally identical colors depending on who applied it.
And I am not a good enough writer to convey that in writing.

EDIT
On second thoughts, might as well just add them.

Hilariously unsafe just on first glance.
There's a reason car construction standards have changed. And even though Mab can shrug off most injury, she doesn't enjoy putting herself in a position to sustain them.

Possibly more of a mortal sin, its a knockoff of an existing car with very few existing examples left.
So it'll stand out as a fake.

This car design killed its designer in testing.
And you want to give it as a gift to a magic queen for whom omens and prophecies, curses and the like are a very real thing?

No, this car's dedicated racing variant killed its designer when he swerved to avoid a (possibly drunken?) cyclist on an ordinary road, after winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. People still die doing that shit today, and I find it completely impossible to blame the car for it.
