Super Robot Quest G

There is nowhere in there that literally states that the Kaiju Ate All of them.
Aside from the fact that our AI reacted to the Westphalian submarines as if the very idea of submarines existing in this day and age was nigh-impossible.

So. Until I get Word of QM to the contrary, or until we start building our own, I'm going to continue assuming that our enemies have a monopoly on submarines. Because I have literally no reason to believe otherwise.

@storysmith112358

Thanks for reminding me about that. I've added the following entry into the Liaison options:

Liaison: Write-In
- Topic of Discussion?

- OOC: This is here in case there's a particular agency or grouping you want to try and reach out to. I can't promise it'll be exact, but I'll do my best to come close to something that makes sense in universe.

It should be reflecting in the options post now.

@FallenTemplar86, @Sir Plusse

To settle this debate, I'll put down a WoG here:

After the proxy fights that made up the Unification Wars, retaining a submarine flotilla didn't make a whole lot of sense. In the early years, sure - they were there to keep nation-states honest about fully integrating with the Earth Union. It was around the early 2060s that the idea was floated that perhaps they don't need submarines strictly anymore outside of research purposes or infrastructure work, and in 2065 the measure was approved. While Diana's quote about the submarine forces being phased out is true, like any military initiatives, the Naval Defense Force has been dragging their collective feet over it. They still have them - there's not as many as there used to be on account of kaiju and the odd Westphalian attack, but they still retain a small presence.

Speaking of which:

The very first kaiju attacks that emerged played out exactly how you would expect a Godzilla-esque scenario to take place. The EUDF took the place of the ineffectual military, and paid for it badly. They indeed tried to rush submarines into the fray, but torpedoes and the odd deck gun does absolutely nothing to kaiju aside from annoy them.

Some of them did get eaten. The Pacific District's squadrons tried a few attacks until they backed off, deciding that the lemon just wasn't worth the squeeze. In effect, the Pacific Squadron is ahead of schedule on submarine downsizing - because, morbidly, of combat attrition.

That said, if the Earth Union got wind of human actors making use of submersible travel as a means of avoiding detection and without being cleared by them for its use, the submarine flotillas are suddenly going to be busier.

This has been your impromptu lore dump, thanks for attending.

Cool, so I can keep believing that they infiltrated the other SR Projects and you won't argue with me on that since I also have Literally no reason to believe otherwise. And there reactions wasn't that it was Nigh-Impossible, it was confusion since there shouldn't be anything over there. Mil Spec subs don't just pop up out of nowhere.

But Seriously, Plusse you may want to walk away for a bit, you're starting to get a bit erratic.

Edit: @Basarin Apologies, didn't see your post yet.

I suppose, though I still find it ridiculous because, as I have pointed out, there are so many inconsistencies in that particular bit of fearmongering that it's both easier and more logical to assume that it's nothing but baseless paranoia.

That way lies mod intervention, though, so let's just drop it like the live explosive it is.

I'd honestly prefer that a Navy offshoot Super Robot Program take care of that since they'd have the actual expertise.

We're not located close enough to a large enough body of water to safely test our stuff with the same level of highly guarded privacy that everything else we have needs and I don't think we can even build an offshore lab with anywhere as near our current Area 51 levels of spooky mystery.

On the other hand, skipping a few steps and mad sciencing up the Bismarck once we sink it and claim the vessel so it can go Fleet of Fog would be pretty interesting.

Then we can stick it to some poor Captain/Admiral/Shikikan and watch them get infected with our insanity.

So @Basarin assuming the research projects go through, I'm kind of low key hoping the assignment of stuff gives Jiro a brainwave to integrate the resultant Funnels with a Steed based support unit.

Should I have tried writing that in?

The answer to your "how do we test it" concern is quite simple: Make a giant aquarium. (/half-joking)

[X] Plan Support, Ichiro & Funnels
- [X] Legio-Galbinus Enclave
-- [X] SCR-01 Beowulf, Argonauts,1st Experimental Support Wing - V-33s
-- The seismic activity is reaching a fever pitch now on its approach to the Enclave. And by extension, not too far from your headquarters. Which is too close for comfort - you won't even need a dropship to get here. The mission will happen this turn with or without your intervention.
- [X] 'Abandoned' Oil Platform
-- [X] Pegasus, SCR-03E Thunderbolt, SAI-01 Ichiro Banner, 25th Marine Air Wing - Seekers
-- You know what they say about those who make assumptions - but quite possibly, you can assume that for the very first time, you have the drop on a Westphalian platform. Ocular is still dutifully broadcasting his location - time to retrieve him. There is no indication that they know you know, but the longer you wait, that's more time for them to realize that you know that they know that you know - as you all well know.
- [X] Rapid Response - Free Brothers
-- [X] Sleipnir, SCR-02 Perseus, 9th Armored Reconnaissance - Phalanxes,
-- Galbinus is doing his best with the mechs he has at his disposal, but some Free Brothers efforts are going to slip through the cracks inevitably. Configuration models are closing the gap, but it's nowhere close enough - one of your Super Robots or Support Teams could help close the gap.

Sp Heres my Plan might be too late too win but I like the quest enough to just give up. Anyway while Im fine working on Funnels I do think theyre are other things we need to Pay attention and there's no need to focus on Funneling so much that we missed some things.

Deployment:
Our Pegasus class ships can only Carry 1 SR & 1 Support Squadron small units like Ichiro Alone or the Argonauts are Probably fine but but sending 2 Support Squadrons isnt viable. Also since were attacking a Westphalian Base the Seekers which can both fly and Walk means we get an advantage in fighting in boil the platform and any sea based defenses they might have not to mention theyre our strongest Support Squadron so using them on an Offensive Westphalians dont expect looks great for me.

For Free Brothers Beuwolf, Argonauts and TMU for Aerial support. Perseus and Phalanx is Just a No Brainer. While the Jackals stay in the base so that we dont stripped our Base Defense so much.

Reaction Monitoring:
Im Having our AI do Monitoring on all threats just to make sure we dont suprised basic stuff

Liason:
Apart from Working Galbinus and Paying the favor. Im having Sasaki try to get us Pilots for a Centurion squad im having our Build Team Make since we really need to expand our Support Squadron for when they deploy and to Increase our Base defenses. Lastly Im having Hiruko make sure the Fulgur are ready when someone enevitably attacks them to steal theyre SR cause there a very Tempting target right now. We want the Seed programs to succeed as much as Reasonable and Fulgur as ther First seed Program will show if putting them under us is a good idea.

Engineering
Apart from Funnel research Im having the build team working on a Centurion Squadron which provides us Mobile Enery Blaster artillery. To support that Im having Jiro work on Upgrading our Heavy Weapons Package. Also rather than just researching Saddle im having the Duo go straight for a Triple Combination for Ichiro since both Sledders and Saddle work for Combinable Configuraiton.
I think we can pass working on SR core until weve got Ichiro ready for Full deployment atleast

Science:
Apart from Funnels Im having our scientist work on the Empathic Booster too with Channeling and seeing if we can use Faedeum to boost Empathic Booster as well.

Ground pound was Tankers and attempts at Power Armor, and they've made a Functional Super Robot Prototype. Like the Navy team is going to be bankrolled and report to the Navy, but they'll definitely pick up outside expertise to build a mech, Unless you think Sam and Max were both in the Army.

Yeah, there are plenty of mad scientists out there that can handle things.

The DRFI as a proof of concept worked so well that Westphalia can't stop eccentric people from being sent to offshoot programs anymore.

Fair enough. I do have a different reason for us to make an amphibious Super Robot, though (which I didn't bring up before because I couldn't quite put it into words until just now since I considered it so obvious): I refuse to sit out a decisive battle with the head of an enemy faction, and if we don't make our own submersible force there's no way for us to participate in that battle.

That's the thing though. In the end what our superiors are aiming for is many different teams and groups under the Union that develops and deploys Super Robots.

We don't have to do everything ourselves. Teamwork makes the DreamWork.

If a Naval centric group gets stood up then what we have to do is cover their backs while they get set up and build up. And when they are ready to contest the seas we cover them against other threats that may attempt to hit their base while they are away.

That's the thing though. In the end what our superiors are aiming for is many different teams and groups under the Union that develops and deploys Super Robots.
And they would, logically, field as many robots as they possibly can for such an important mission as "attack Sheol directly." Way I see it, the only way we're not joining that attack is if we go out of our way to avoid developing the ability to operate underwater, at which point we're gonna be under very intense scrutiny and may even be at risk of getting shut down for not being proactive enough.

Basically, I'm assuming we're gonna be participating in all the base assaults because I'm treating this quest as a show with us as the main characters. And, honestly, it'd be boring to not join in on that anyway, which makes it, by default, not cool and thus against the local laws of physics.

I'll take being boring if it allows us to continue doing what we're doing.

Being Getter Rays and driving everyone to evolve.

You say that like we're being given a choice in the matter. There's nothing less satisfying than a major villain dying offscreen, which means it's reasonable to assume that we will somehow be railroaded into participating in that attack. Not just as the rear guard, but actually joining the attack itself. With that in mind, it's only reasonable to take steps to prepare before "crunch time."

For an in-universe reason, y'know how ungrateful the military got when that carrier was sunk? Imagine how butt-hurt they'll get if we never even show up. We'd need to singlehandedly wipe out the Westphalians or something to convince them we're still worth keeping around- because remember, we're still a military facility, with all that entails, and if a military division doesn't produce results then their personnel will be reassigned to somewhere the higher-ups think they will produce results at. Or court-martialed for desertion, depending on severity.

Besides, making an amphibious design of our own (not necessarily even a Super Robot version) could be what inspires someone else to make a dedicated Super Robot for submarine warfare, if only because we'd be demonstrating that it's possible. I mean, I'm pretty sure the Jackals (and, by extension, Beowulf) were a key factor in the establishment of Ground Pound; why couldn't we do it again?
