Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Given the white court king could have a mantle its never said he does. But, maybe they do not like we know. Not all mantles are nearly as important as others.

well yeah those aren't mantles though it has plenty of uses. I'm just mentioning not all beings with mantles are likely to ever have been mortals. Note a lot of them that we don't know about probably were though.
That's true. And I think in case of those like Arawn or Odin, SCE would either strip them to their first "core" self, or banish them altogether into nevernever.

odins especially weird since we've got word of jim he has soulfire. Not that this has anything to do with what you said just mentioning. Also fairly sure he said its never gonna come up in story. I fully expect there to be a lot of mysteries that stay that even when dresden files ends. Just like with codex alera.

You are completely misrepresenting or misunderstanding what the spell does. It, to quote "splits apart any unnatural joining of matter and spirit.".
Mantles are atype of a spirit that can inhabit a mortal. Of course SCE will banish a mantle. Same as it would banish Bob from his skull. There's zero ambiguity here. I am genuinely struggling to think where you get "it won't work on mantles" from. Of course it will. Why wouldn't it? A joining of a bane and a human to form a fomori is a far closer one than that between a mantle and its bearer. And SCE works on fomori and can separate the mortal from the bane. Mantles are akin to that.
Mantles are not spirits. Mantles are most closely akin to investitures.
Under no definition in the Dresden Files, Exalted or World of Darkness are Mantles supposed to be spirits.
You might as well call an Exaltation a spirit and claim that SCE will remove it.

And I dont see by what justification you claim the Fae Courts are an unnatural joining.

How are you defining spft power? Because from where I am standing, Mab has zero soft power, and is only dealt with and tolerated by others out of necessity or fear.
world101.cfr.org

What Is Soft Power?

From Cold War propaganda to current day pop culture, learn how countries use soft power to influence others without coercion in this free resource.
In the 1980s, political scientist Joseph Nye Jr. coined the term soft power, defining it as a country's ability to influence others without resorting to coercive pressure.

Mab didnt coerce Titania, or any of the Dragons, or the old gods like Hades, or even the Fallen, to sign onto the Accords. She couldnt have with the power she can spare from her other commitments. She is the local superpower, she isnt almighty, and Summer is supposed to balance Winter from throwing their weight around too much.

Thats explicitly spelled as out as a pillar of the setting.

Furthermore, we have been explicitly told that in this AU, Faerie Court power in the southern hemisphere is primarily soft power.
Mab doesnt have military force there to compel obedience or compliance.
Its shared interests and national prestige.

Winter wouldnt send representatives to diplomatic receptions like Bianca's ball in Grave Peril if they just relied on force and threat of force.

EDIT
Winter cannot fight the entire setting at once, any more than the US can fight all of the world at once.
At the very least, they cant do so while still doing their job of defending reality.
So they dont just make threats'

yeah uh Mab doesn't just fight anything that can be a perceived threat. She has equals and even strong individuals with less projection power than her yet just as mystically powerful as her if not more who she doesn't fight. Mab heavily relies on politics, etiquette, and deals more than directly fighting things most of the time or even indirectly fighting things.

Little pitchers have ears.
There's a demon-possessed girl in the Church, and demons do remember what they see or hear, and I wont be surprised if this one can hear farther than we expect. Nevermind other eavesdroppers may be about, from the Little Folk who are everywhere, to even the Feds bugging locations.

This is neither the time nor the place to discuss Molly's vision.

If not for the inviolable and absolute nature of exaltation that laughs at puny remains of Sorcery, yes, SCE as written should remove exaltations from mortals.

Mantles are definitely akin to spirits. They are a type of power / non-corporeal entity with their own minds that apempower and affect their bearers.

What is a difference between a fomori bane and a mantle? Between a whampire hunger and a mantle?

Their threat is implicit to everyone who knows of the gates. It's formulated as "everything we do is to better protect the gates, if you are opposing us, you are endangering reality". That makes them allies with those who know of the gates. For those who don't It's "we are extremely cruel, vindictive and are allies with a lot of other powers. Do you want to be on our side or opposed to us?"

Winter's political power is very much based on threats and perceived military power.

I was assuming we would perma-kill her as soon as we got her out of the human host?

After all she called our threats a bluff, we have to make a point here.

And it even keeps with our promise to mom, nobody will know what happened here, except for Emma-O noticing that yet another spirit did not return, so no new information for anyone.

@DragonParadox as far as Molly understands, would the exorcism remove a mantle from a mortal? For example, if we put old man Matthews through the ritual, would Arawn's old mantle be removed?

As she understands it yes, the text of the ritual is similar to what Arwan used in some regards only without the transfer part and a lot more firmly worded. That said it would not work on an immortal and Molly does not know how hard it would be for say Titania to re-knight Fix if he were exorcised against his will.

Our current priority is the girl. We now have the means to exorcise the demon, we can talk about the means of how we have gotten the spell later.

Yeah, Malfeas is one of those need to know info that must not be spread around carelessly.

Thanks, but this raises several more questions.

First of all, could you elaborate on what you mean by immortal? Do you mean those to whom the mantles are a natural part of their existence, like Odin? For example, from my understanding, Maeve was born a changeling. Presumably, she first chose to become a fae, and then was granted the Winter Lady mantle. Would the ritual work on her? Making her a "simple" fae again?

The second question is - would Molly be able to take her obersvations of Arawn's rituals and add them onto the SCE to add the transfer part to it?

Was wondering how much of your decision to propose one outside the normal Xp plans cycle was due to exactly what happened, an important plot point we kept missing because yet was so close all along....

Must have been frustrating to see how many times they were discussed and forgotten when the time came.

  1. All or at least most Dressdenverse fey are born mortals, but they are fundamentally not and something about that means you cannot strip a mantle from one of them. Why that is and how it might be changed would require research
  2. Yes, though it would take quite some time and, the most complex occult action proposed to date

We should work on both of these. The latter first. I am guessing this would be sorta kinda a simpler version of Devil-Refining Cauldron? Because the description of the charm is very much "transfer a spirit into an object".
The Exalt may craft an item suitable for habitation
by a wicked spirit, and then dissolve a Bane or devil
until it is ready to be poured into the prepared vessel.
System: This Charm allows the character to create
fetishes (see W20, page 221). The character must first
craft the item that is to serve as the physical substance
of the fetish, and must do so entirely by herself. Then,
the Exalt uses this Charm to bind a spirit into the fe-
tish. This may be done either with the spirit's willing
cooperation, or after battering it until it has been re-
duced to 0 Essence and then suspending its dissolution
for 24 hours by reflexively spending 1 Essence. Such a
"suspended" spirit swirls about within the Exalt's anima
until either bound into a fetish, or until the suspension
ends, at which point the spirit finishes discorporating.
To bind a spirit into a prepared vessel, the Exalt must
retire to a ritual space and spend (Fetish's rating) hours
and (Fetish's rating x 3) Essence binding the spirit and
object together. Because of the high Essence cost of this
Charm, it is most easily performed within Dragon Nests.

Word of Jim it's all and when asked how that works where a bunch of wyld fae were clearly born not mortal. He said he's not telling.
