Something Wicked (Villainous Magical Boy Quest)

[X] TELL ROSE: ELEMENTALISM
I just want Rose to be happy and I feel like a more flexible form of magic that isn't pigeonholed into certain roles will be better for her self esteem.

Different topic but I want to say something. If the invasion happens, we should minimize losses from the conflict but if it gets out of control expect an invasion not similar to Hollywood movies but instead to Xcom. Humans are weaker by a vast amount in magic and tech and would be quickly taken over if the entire race of the protagonist participates. Bringing the magical girls to our ideals gives us mediators to prevent the worse. Other things to know that the mc will likely vastly live longer than any of the magic girls as some of his kind can last longer then 3 centuries apparently so he will have to accept this. Also, other races can interfere with us and cause things to snowball and the titans would obliterate humanity regardless with enough of them. The hospital girl and rose and Akira at this point re the most viable to defect. We want to minimize misery so it is nice to understand a likely worst-case scenario to prevent it from occurring.

[X] DON'T TELL ROSE: ELEMENTALISM

OPSEC OPSEC OPSEC.

I know Saiyu can be something of a free spirit, but there's that, and then there's shooting ourselves on the foot, specially in such a preventable way. Doubly so in the vicinity of our fated nemesis.

Actually, we should probably expect an invasion similar to magical girl series. Because...um...this quest is explicitly based on magical girl tropes. (And for what sounds like a pure fantasy genre, there are a lot of magical girl series with alien invaders.)

We are the alien invaders. We already know that our operation scheme is 'invade with like four guys and weekly expendable monsters'.

Completely ignorant of how unlikely this is to actually work.

I'm steelmanning shydylan's argument and assuming he's talking about the next wave, after our team either achieves its objectives or gets thoroughly trounced by the magical girls. Season 2, if you will. But I'm pretty sure season 2 isn't going to be a complete genre shift.

I mean, historically speaking, the weekly expendable monsters plan almost always almost works, so I can understand why big bads would like it. Like they almost universally manage to get to the final step of their plans, so. Clearly it's working? They just have to not mess up on the final step.

(The final step often ends up falling apart as a direct result of their indifference to allied casualties, but let's ignore that for the time being.)

Though of course in our case it will fail because Zaiyu gets attached too easily, and the first time one of his monsters gets popped he's going to have a breakdown.

I'm still under the impression that Zaiyu's undoing is going to come from his underestimating humans and their ability to use Estil magic, let alone outfitting him with it. It's why I voted for saying something, both to nudge that beat along and have some juicy drama between Tomoe and the MG team on Earth, and Shayin whose increasing vague mission scope might come back to haunt him.

This return to talking about how this whole thing is in fact an invasion has really reminded me how attached I am to the idea of actually trying to win this. Just without the genocide implied in the current plan.

I mean, realistically speaking, a genocide is basically unavoidable following the current plan. It's important to separate what a victory is for Zaiyuu from what a victory would be for the faction, because in these kinds of stories, the two rarely ever actually match up.

...This is also why magical girl villains tend to end up either dead or redeemed: Either they figure out their goals don't match up with their faction and leave, they find out that their goals don't match up when their bosses kill them, or they have their final battle with magical girls and get purified, which can either kill them outright or redeem them based on whatever the themes of the season are.

Anyways, Zaiyuu's goals have been stated to roughly be as follows:
1: Ensure the Estil have a future.
2: If possible, allow humans to maintain their current way of life.
3: Keep people he likes safe, but only if they want him to.

My main perspective on teaching magic is that it helps assist with goal #2, and while it does create a bit of disruption towards invasion plans, Zaiyuu's goal isn't necessarily global domination, so much as to ensure that the Estil can survive. ...Which admittedly, still requires them to at least have a significant presence on Earth or at least the moon, but doesn't necessarily require a successful invasion.

...Okay, look, I play Terra Invicta as Academy. Half the plot of the Academy route is disrupting the alien invaders just enough to get them to the negotiating table. The other half is trying to stop the extremists from blowing up the planet, but that's just normal Terra Invicta gameplay.

(The true solution to the Estil surviving is almost definitely going to be the magical girls getting a Civilization Cultural Victory, because Estil culture itself is kind of insane and self-destructive. Even if they do take over Earth, what we've been shown of Estil outside of our group is that they casually blow up planets, so like. I give it 20 years before they doom their entire species by blowing up the Earth on a dare.)
