Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Nope. Nope. Hell no.

AAAAAaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever seen a LOX canister explode?

Now think about whether we want to be doing that, with faaar larger quantities of the stuff, in our backyard.
Yeah, should have specified that the container has just enough venting and that we are doing that underground in Jade Dogs territory, but looks like Yog and uju32 have everything in hand as usual.

Will be honest. The only reason why I chose Yog was the CCC use. We really need to start using that in our crafting actions.

-[X]Tool Constructs to prep workshop, prep coal and produce dry ice(CO2) in containers around the room to drop room temperature and activate Without Honor
Why not water ice? Much safer, and has higher heat capacity, meaning it'll last longer. No need for overcomplicated and dangerous setup that would require us to vent the garage afterwards (plus, where would you even get CO2 in such quantities?).

EDIT: CO2 concentration in air is 0.04% (not sure if weight or atomic). Air density is 1.3 kg/m3. Meaning that you'll get roughly 0.52 grams of CO2 from air. Meaning that you'll need to process roughly 2000 cubic meters of air to produce 1 kilogram of CO2. And you need at least roughly (by my back of the napkin estimation) a hundred kilos. meaning that you'll need to process 200 thousand cubic meters of air. That's something that gets noticed.

That is part of the Infernal loop though.

Infernals do not get strait charms like Solars. Their charms are designed to have broad applications.
But most of the ideas I've seen for activating it shouldn't even work.
We can break an electronic padlock so trivially that it barely traps us in any real sense.
It's like holding a rope in your hands and claiming you are tied up.

And on the other hand I obviously don't want to find a solution that involves genuine helplessness.

So I don't see a good, non-cheesy and for me acceptable way to use CCC outside of actually being in a situation caused by real enemies.
My first sight of this Charm was in A Green Sun Illuminates the Void by Earth Scorpion and let me tell you the escape from Londinium was one of the most epic arcs I have seen in any story, fanfic or regular.
Activating it with a padlock instead is devaluing that in my mind.

Karrin Murphy having people in her corner to prevent her getting screwed by department politics can only be a net positive, assuming that they are on the up and up.
Only assuming they are on the up and up. Because as she goes deeper, things like magically binding oaths and incentives to spy on (and possibly betray) Dresden (and us) could easily come in.
The fact that Harry said they seem to have the Warden briefing on last October is a point in the Library's favor.
That said, he is a senior Warden commander. He should be able to ask and know if they have it, not just get by on impressions.
Sometimes I think he forgets exactly how much official clout he wields now.
He almost certainly does, and he really, no joke, needs a PR department. Maybe a comics / cartoon made of his adventures (without revealing too much, of course).

Also, would anyone mind if I added
-[] Based on your research, buy the materials needed (coal, and other reagents) for production
as the third subpoint? That's a legitimate thing we need to do, probably. I thought that it would be handled automatically, and didn't add it initially.

That is part of the Infernal loop though.

Infernals do not get strait charms like Solars. Their charms are designed to have broad applications.
The way I would put it is that Solars get DC reductions based on conditions (on a horse, on a boat, etc) well Infernals get DC reductions based on objectives (escape, protect ect).

Expect for boiling seas mastery.

What I have always found odd is that Infernals don't get any charm that gives DC reductions on actions to break someone else out of prison. Wasn't the whole point in making them that the Yomi wanted the Infernals to eventually find a way to break them out?

Or just broad "when using Ability X, or Ability Z, or when trying to social".

Yozi actually baked in a "break me out of prison" charm into original infernals, but Infernal Monster style is gone, Yozi are gone, and Infernals in general only share vague echoes of the glories past with their past incarnation - while Solars are Solars and Lunars are Lunars, Infernals are almost a completely different splat.

Of course there's a charm for DC reductions for breaking someone else out of prison! First you buy CCC, then you get locked up in the same place as whoever you're trying to break out, and finally you organize a mass prison break! Easy-Peasy!

Oh, you were looking for something more direct? Well, you can always just use absurd dice-stacking to make sure that you don't need DC reductions... or just blow everything up. And I guess homebrew is an option if you really need it. Assuming you can talk the GM into it.

ExWoD is supposed to be homebrew-friendly, but DP wasn't really feeling confident about jumping into new system and then allowing custom content from get-go.

Which is a shame, because again, E2 had like, a bunch of books. Core for everyone, individual splatbooks, Glories for every splat, and a bunch of charms sprinkled through various supplementary materials. ExWoD default charmsets really only cover the bare basics.

IIRC he said he'll prolly allow it later, and so we wait. And jump through hoops.

  • [X] Plan "Excellence unmatched"
-[X] Consult with Thomas what sort of diamonds (quality, sizes, colors, etc) would be best to make
-[X] Before starting the production, investigate various techniques of diamond making together with your Cyberdevils, in order to find the best ones for your purposes
-[X] Commandeer an outdoor workshop. Use Tool Transcending Constructs to make large ice blocks (find or make some empty barrels to place them in) to lower internal temperature enough to trigger Without Honor, Without Hope
-[X] Use oil, machine oil, or bleach to trigger Boiling Sea Mastery while working
--[X] Use disposable working clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and use Tool Transcending constructs to clean up afterwards
-[X] Make an electronic padlock controllable by Clippy to trigger Cracked Cell Circumvention while working
    -[X] Use crafting excellency
-[X] Use All Things Betray (pay willpower) for quality control to increase the efficiency (to discard diamonds of low quality at early stages of production)
-[X] STUNT: "Well, no turning back now. Clippy, lock me up please, until I make this month's quota. And put on some music." you say, as the padlock on the door behind you blinks red, indicating that you are now confined to your workshop. The air around you is crisp and invigorating, the freezing temperature maintained by large columns of ice in the corners. They should last for hours, especially with your chilly aura going full blast around you. Your hair glistens with machine oil, threatening to stain your work clothes. From the light of your soul, strange machinery starts to unfold, ready to create on the level hardly imaginable by mortal men, even if inspired by their techniques you spent the evening before researching.
    [X]Plan Diamond Eyes
-[X]Market research: Consult with Thomas, and online with cyberdevil help, what diamond qualities are currently most in demand and most likely to move fast.
    -[X]Shopping: ~$20 for 40 pounds of charcoal at Lowe's, ~$10 for plastic container(s). Propylene glycol(antifreeze) at $70/gallon: $100
-[X]Borrow outdoor garage/workshop again. Shoo jawas away for the duration.
-[X]Tool Constructs to prep workshop, prep coal and produce dry ice(CO2) in containers around the room to drop room temperature and activate Without Honor
-[X]Antifreeze(propylene glycol) soak to activate Boiling Sea Mastery
-[X]Tool Constructs + Crafting Excellency + All Things Betray for diamond manufacture and cutting
-[X]TLF is active to ignore environmental damage from cold or CO2 concentration
    -[X]Cyberdevil aid as necessary,
    -[X]Tool Constructs for cleanup
-[X]STUNT: Shooing both Alicia and Mathew away from the door to the outdoor garage with alternate promises and threats, you lock the doors behind you and begin to change into your presoaked work clothes. As you do so, a dense, smoke-like fog swirls around your feet, coming off the containers of dry ice emplaced at the corners of the room and along some of the walls and imbuing the room with a chill at variance with the late summer heat outside. You focus on what you want, and reality bends to your desires, as specialized machinery begins to unfold, filling the room with forges, blinking readouts and swiveling cameras, dominated at one end by a big high resolution screen. Setting Clippy in a Essence-forged docking cradle, you turn on the radio and get to work.
    [X] Plan simple and effective
-[X] With TTC construct a huge room-sized sufficiently thermally isolated fully enclosed container and fill it with liquid oxygen mixed with solid oxygen slush. Molly will craft inside, fully submerged, allowed by WHWH and getting +2 dice from it. Huge size means no active cooling needed, melting of solid oxygen and slow evaporation of liquid oxygen would provide all the needed cooling. Gets us -1 difficulty from BSM, gets us essence replenishment from CSR as pure liquid oxygen is toxic even without the cold.
-[X] Use CCC for further -3 difficulty.
    -[X] Use excellency.
-[X] Craft for as long as possible, repeat if needed.
-[X] Aim for maximum quantity of high quality grade artificial diamonds, there is a thriving marked for them at that time and they are easier to sell.

Honestly, the point of my post was mostly in the first couple lines for the joke. The rest was more tacked-on. I'm willing to wait on homebrew.

I can understand his thinking. Balancing and managing homebrew requires mental energy which can generally be use on updates. Also it isn't like we are currently terribly lacking in things to spend XP on. Still haven't gotten all the high value 1 dot charms even in our favored hells.

Also if he waits we might do most of the work for him before it gets to that part.

Although in my reading about Exalted I have gotten the impression that Exalted usually make custom charms in response to their environment. It was the main reason the versus thread on SB thought that the Exalted host would beat the Culture.

So maybe we should make custom charms that are based on Dresden files?

So what are some themes of DF that aren't generally key themes of creation.

*Names: So charms to find out names and to force beings to take on new names given by the Infernal.
"Your name is now butthead". And now he can only introduce himself as butthead he instinctively responses to that name. And all ID will change to reflect the new name. In keeping with the themes of Infernals this charm was made as a curse, but the IDless Ghouls might find it useful.

Freewill: Oddly enough not a theme in creation. If anything the opposite. With how fate seems to work in creation only essance users actually had any free will. So does that mean that willpower can be harvested for essanse?

I continue to dislike the attempts to game CCC.

CCC and similar charms are designed to be gamed like this. They're niche charms designed to make Infernals behave in what externally looks like insane ways in order to benefit from them.

CCC doesn't force you to use the easiest way to break out of confinement deliberately. Any possible route to get out, even one's that would usually be very hard like subverting the guards rather than climbing over the wall are boosted.

1)Less waste to clean up in the aftermath, much faster and lower temperature drop for Without Honor, and we dont care about CO2 poisoning because we have TLF. Also Rule of Cool; the visuals of evaporating CO2 makes for a much more evocative backdrop than water ice evaporating in a tub.

2) No reason it should be.
We live in the Chicago suburbs. Big house for a 9-person family, including at least 1-2 spare rooms. Large backyard with a treehouse. Standalone garage thats been converted to a workshop.

There's enough space to get up to a fair bit without getting loud enough to alarm the neighbours.
Also, magic.

We could have simply bought dry ice; prices are in the $1/pound range for retail buyers, afterall.
Or just bought some more coal and converted that to CO2.
But it seemed like a waste of money. And for bookkeeping simplicity, my budget was $100.

So do we have any other major crafting projects to play with on the horizon?

I think Lydia's jacket is good enough armor wise for the moment, but some better brass knuckles might be worth the time.

It'd also be entertaining to show up at Harry's place with one of the defunct 1800-1900 era shotgun or rifle types I've posted in the past.

It's America and the early 2000s, so "I bought it from a friend/the parking lot of a gun show from a guy with no paperwork but who seemed really trustworthy" is legal in a lot of places. Still is too.

As an aside, actually getting a store front for custom gun smithing might be interesting. Regulations would be tricky, but not insurmountable with cyber devil delegation.

It's a small throughput, but wizards have a lot of cash and some variably strict limits on the modern equipment they can use. Really high quality new builds of stuff designed long enough ago for them to use it without fear could earn us some cash, and more importantly favors with various wizards.

So do we have any other major crafting projects to play with on the horizon?
Well, for me, I have the following list of ideas (no particular order):
1) Remake the Ebon Scales, only better. We have significantly more difficulty adjusters now, and should be able to clear 10+ successes, resulting in better, if not armor itself, than supernatural effects
2) Make Michael new armor / underarmor. Work together with Charity and Lydia, pull out all stops (if we are rolling Dexterity, than doing crafting while in Shintai form is worth +4 dice).
3) Make the CCC abusing wearable device. Even if it's not for everyday use, if we are, say, against Nicodemius in a duel to the death, I'd like to have an option to trigger it
4) Make winter clothes for our family. Because It's environmental protection, which should trigger TLF
5) Make Lydia a weapon that works with Brawl. Brass knuckles? Iron laces combat gloves? Something like that
6) Make armor for the Bane god we made, and for Lydia's new familiar
7) Upgrade our cars with all kinds of spy gadget things, upgrade its armor, engine and such. Ideally make an unfodable animatronic driver so it could drive itself around without attracting attention
8) Bubble boots - wearable boots that generate bubbles underneath themselves. This way we won't be leaving footsteps behind and would be able to achieve flight without using essence thanks to BSM (we can walk on bubbles)
9) Once we get RVD - connecting all our significant locations (our house, Last Station, somewhere close to Dresden's home, Lydia's home and the church we go to at least) via a series of underground tubes filled with liquid so we could essentially quick travel between these locations.
10) wearable neural interface for Mouse's text to speech device, so he can speak without having his front paws occupied. Possibly something similar for Lydia's familiar(s)
11) Better mundane(ish) home security for Carpenters. That's one thing White God doesn't provide - protection against mortals
12) Probably some cool guns for Murphy and Dresden. Also armor for Murphhy. I mean, if Chicago cops are allowed their own equipment, we owe her at least that much. And we could probably make her something that would work against supernaturals.
13) A smart gun for ourselves. One that can be HMPed. We could probably get certified relatively easily.
14) Little Chicago 2.0. I mean, that's both enchantment and Craft, and we can, and should, help Dresden with it. And with RVD, we could easily get soil samples from various areas.
15) If we can, a golem body for Bob.
16) Last Station general upgrades.

Also, speaking of "craft" - when we raid the lair of the Dragon our father killed, we should loot the body. Because a Dragon Zombie / Skeleton in a Dragon's Nest, clad in Infernal armor... Well, I am fairly sure that everything below multiple denarians attacking together will be dissuaded from doing so.
