You know, despite voting over an hour and a half ago I'm still sad that we're "limited" to 6 traits. Not because I want Fanriel to be stupidly overpowered but because so many of them are so compelling.

You did a really good job, Blackout.

You know, thinking on what Blackout said about how Student of the Anvil is basically the starter set for elven magical crafting I do find it really fitting for Fanriel.
She's a Loremaster of Hoeth - exile or no she is absolutely going to keep learning and sharpening her mind, body and soul.

It's tied for 5th and 6th place, as of right now it absolutely looks like it could win.

Voting momentum is currently swinging towards Commander of Ind, so this and Averlon could well knock Anvil and Colonist out.

Which implies an interesting background if both wins - the protagonist almost certainly was of very high nobility, and almost certainly is a fish out of water in the old world.

But be warned, the chances such an Elf would be very homesick is very high. Coping with her exile and far removed from the context of Ulthuani court politics and military command probably will be psychologically taxing, especially if we end up making her a solo mercenary. The old world is completely out of her wheelhouse here.

Yeah at joint 5th place with 14 votes we have Student of the Anvil, Colonist and Commander of the Ind Campaigns. At 13 votes is Averlornian Ancestry and at 12 votes is Warrior of the Wailing Fen.

The last two spots are razor tight.

And they all have wildly different narrative implications and likely affect how severe getting exiled is for our protagonist mental health.

If mental health is not an important factor when playing an Heir of Anaerion and its consequences, I will be shocked.

Good for fighting Choas, and will probably help us if interacting with Dwarfs.

[X] [TRAITS] Avelornian Ancestry
[X] [TRAITS] Colonist

I like diplomacy.

[X] [TRAITS] Sapherian Tutelage
We're a wizard, enough said.

[X] [TRAITS] Student of the Dreams
[X] [TRAITS] Student of the Flame

[X] [BLOOD] No
Hell no, I don't want to suffer the curse.

The Lightfang is only balanced against the other options by the fact that it's going to infuriate the dawi that an elgi has an ancient gromril runesword and they can't honourably seek to reclaim it from her.

So what this means is that the other Artefacts are mechanically stronger, and Lightfang only draws even with them because of the narrative flex over the Dawi that it gives us, right?

Given that we're exiled from Ulthuan and all the colonies (including enclaves like in Marienburg) and the main source for these things would be other Asur I'm not sure getting access to those kind of markets will be anything short of extremely difficult.

And on top of that we have powerful enemies in Ulthuan who want to knife us (comes with being a an exiled Princess and it's presumably for getting someone they loved killed by bringing a Lizardmen taskforce into Ulthuan due to our greed) so they would likely sabotage us at every turn to stop us getting access to Ulthuani trade networks/use intelligence to pin down our location and try and have someone stab us.
I personally wouldn't go so far as you and call gaining access to Elven things as extremely difficult, though obviously it'd be Blackout's interpretation of how much of an Untouchable we are in Asur Society and how far-reaching and all-knowing our enemies are.

While I doubt we're ever going to roll up to Marienburg's Elven Quarters with our entire Mercenary Company to buy the bestest gear, I'm sure we could build up relationships with Asurian ne'er-do-wells (black market stuff), other Asur mercenary bands, shady (or just gold-minded) traders and merchant houses travelling the world, as well as with other miscellaneous Asur friends we make along our adventures. I doubt even the Pheonix King could stop all of them from being chummy with us. It'll take work to establish ourselves but we're just fresh into our exile when the story starts so that's to be expected.

It's our choice if we want to be a hermit from any Asur me thinks.

Mmm. Good points. You're right in that we'll have to see how things shakeout with regards to Blackout's decisions (and the dice, always the dice).

Oooh, we actually have a definitive Top 6 at the moment, specifically:

Sapherian Tutelage
Student of Dreams
Survivor of the Battle of the Holy Flame
Colonist
Chracian Blood
Avelornian Ancestry

With Student of the Anvil and Commander of the Ind Campaigns right behind that final one. The other five look like pretty solid locks, at least at the moment. The current setup looks good and interesting to me, though either of the runners up replacing Avelorinan Ancestry does also seem acceptable.

So, in my defence, it's almost dawn and I haven't slept yet.

However, I only just remembered that that if Student of the Anvil doesn't win the vote then we could still get plenty of fun research times and fancy magic times with, you know, the fact that we can cast all eight winds and need to hone that.

What a nice consolation prize. It's almost like I voted for Loremaster of Hoeth with that being part of my reasoning.

Not my finest moment

Averlornian Ancestry and Blood of Anaerion very likely means that we are of very very high birth in the ranks of the nobility. Because we probably have even more recent Everqueen Ancestry than the First Ever Queen and it won't surprise me if we are a descendant of one of the recent Phoenix Kings within the last thousand years. Exile is a long way to fall from that height.

Yeah we're insanely high class. Couple that with our mother being a Princess from the capital of Chrace and the fact that both she and our father were important enough in the noble ranks for their marriage to be a marriage alliance...

Fanriel is likely to have been an aristo even amongst aristos.

I mean, we're a princess no matter what and so the fall is pretty high regardless. Personally, while I agree that mental health is a worthwhile consideration, I think both Student of Dreams and Colonist help to make Fanriel a bit more psychologically durable in this situation than she might be otherwise.

We spent a bunch of time living in a colony around humans and also ended up in various places from the White Tower to Lustria where we took the plaque from. So clearly Fanriel had a bit of wanderlust. That, as you say, will likely help her be a bit more resilient to her situation.
