Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

@DragonParadox does Molly know Sanya's story of being a denarian who put down his coin?

Something like this. Can use work, certainly, but still. This is perfect for a leadership excellency.

She does know the story, it came up when Michael explained the Denarians, specifically in answer to the question 'but why don't you just kill them all and lock up all the coins?' Make of the fact that Molly asked that at age 15 what you will :V

Great! Does Molly think she is free to share this story with Rosie, or is it considered private? I mean, Michael told it to Molly.

In terms of privacy you could edit out the name and specific details of Sanya and it would be fine, it is a story about redemption no knight would be opposed to it being told on general principles. Though now that I think about it... are you guys sure you want to explain the Fallen? They are rather terrifying as a concept.

I don't think the Fallen are very relevant to her current situation.

Never seen Nick with money-trouble. He propably solved them all some millenia ago.

Denarian coins are a good analogy of drug use.

Ok, editing a vote then to use his anonymized story. A variation of it, at least. "evil spirits" instead of the Fallen. Though... How catholic is Rosie's catholicism? I mean, does she believe or is she mostly agnostic?

[X] Counsel her that jumping into this headfirst is not the best idea, most people on the supernatural side keep a foot in both worlds

It's interesting that flight is air manipulation. Harry does gravity manipulation regularly. Yet there's no gravity manipulation flight. I'm guessing that not many (if any) wizards are aware of general relativity and how gravity works. Maybe also look at ion propulsion. Basically, I think wizards could achieve flight, but they are brute forcing it, instead of doing something more elegant.
The problem with trying to fly with anti-gravity is that wizard magic works on an action reaction system (like tossing up a pillar of fire to frezee a lake). You need to make something heavier proportional to what you are lightening. While you could pick say the nearest streetlamp for the purpose that means you are tethered to it now which does not make for very useful flight. The ideal would be to use the whole planet, but no mortal mind can contain the whole planet as a magic sink.
Wind/air manipulation flight is far from the only option in Dresden Files.

We see Mab levitate in Battlegrounds IIRC. Nicodemus has his shadow turn into wings. Rashid has a flying carpet.
Ebenezar literally ripped a boulder out of the ground and flew around on it like a flying saucer.
Hell, Wyldfae pixies like Too-Toot arent keeping themselves aloft by windbeats.

Bob is an immensely well-informed spirit of knowledge with hundreds of years of working with wizards.
But he doesnt know everything.
Especially after who knows how much he lost after exorcising Evil Bob.
No, that would fall under Academics since it is a matter of physics, even if rather out there as theoretical models go
  1. It works on the principle of 'I am my own frame of reference'/I am vast, I contain multitudes.
  2. I do not think Solars get flight at all
Solars get flight.

Bonfire Anima Wings is a 5 dot Night charm that costs 3 Essence(free if Supernal) to fly with glowing wings made of your anima banner at 2x her normal movement rate for the scene. Added to the 3 dot charm Lightning Speed, which permanently triples movement speed(5x if Supernal).

So Solar flight either 6x or 10x base movement speed.
Thats slower than an Infernal can get. Potentially slower than a Lunar can get if they invest in flight and speed.
But Solars also get free reflexive combat-time flashstep if they take Lightning Speed as a Supernal.

"There's this entire other world out here huh?" At your cautious nod she continues. "So is it like Harry Potter, do they have wizard banks and wizard cops, wizard schools and wizard hospitals? Could you... could I just vanish into it? Because I don't know if you noticed Molls but I really screwed the pooch in this world." She glances down at Mouse. "No offense."
Rosie is a teenager who is still looking for a way to run away from her problems. And she thinks magic is the answer.

One would think that she would remember the magic notJason who killed her boyfriend, or the things that she saw at the hospital, or even Molly hanging on a tree as a reminder that magic is not just wonder and fluffy bunnies.
The more I see, the more I suspect that Mrs Wilson might know her daughter better than Molly does.

This is precisely the sort of state of mind that makes people make deals with Fae and worse, and come to regret it when the bill comes due. I would really hate for her to become our own Kim Delaney.

Not!Jason was the bad magic and Molly clearly is the good magic, this is not even so much her being a teenager as her being a human in very trying circumstances and wanting a chance to reinvent herself. Is this the kind of state and the kind of person that would get say Meave rubbing her hands? Yes, that is why she does brisk business, it is so very common.

As for the flying on stuff part of wizardry, that gets around the limitations of evocation with wind or gravity by not using evocation at all. A boulder, a carpet or if you want to be a barbarian a rock, all can be invested as a magic item that happens to fly.

They are also restricted information.

Dresden, as a full wizard of the White Council, one who had served as Emissary to the Winter Court, and who had a history of working with a Knight of the Cross, did not know that the Knights of the Blackened Denarius were a thing when Ursiel jumped him at the beginning of Death Rites.

When Michael and Shiro tried to explain, he denied that it was possible they were a thing.
When he showed the sigil to Bob, Bob told him to rub it out and not talk about them.

Information can make people vulnerable in this setting.
We shouldnt be blabbing carelessly untill we're sure a person is stable enough to handle information safely.

Which is why my mind boggles about people being cavalier about introducing Rosie to the supernatural. Taking her to supernatural hangouts as if there was no potential threat.
This shit is precisely what got Susan turned into dessert at Bianca's ball.

Even the suggestion of moving her out and into our custody is sketchy.
Because if she seems to be of value, people who cant do anything to Molly will target her to get at us.
And unlike the Carpenters, Rosie does not benefit from divine protection.

Her best defense atm is obscurity. And training.
A bloody Willpower 3 teenage magical talent coming into her power is the equivalent of a newborn gazelle on the African savannah.
And its dinnertime.

I would point out that she is jumping for the 'abandon mundane and everyone she knows in that world' thing specifically because she thinks she screwed up beyond repairing her normal life which is simply not true.

Yes, there are rational practicalities and her obvious inquiry isn't unreasonable, but there's an emotional level to that question as well which she will read answer into 'Yes, your old life is FUBAR, here's how to abandon it'. I feel like this is a 'women can have a conversation on two different levels' thing, and ignoring the emotional content of the question to address purely the rational is a BAD idea.

We don't need to describe everything in lurid details, but in general "people can sell their lives to evil spirits" shouldn't be a thing to withhold as a knowledge. Because this way lies Rosie selling her soul out of ignorance. Sanya's story is very inspirational, and has parallels to what Rosie went through. Charity's story also has some parallels, but that's private.

When I say you arent exhibiting appropriate respect for the threat of the Fallen, I am stone cold serious.
No. Non. Nyet.
Dont even go there.

We dont even want to skirt the topic of the literal Fallen angels who are powerful and subtle enough that they can bloody alter prophecy addressed to Knights of the Cross via the Church. The fact that you edit the story of Sanya and Magog does not mean that Magog or one of his comrades wont notice. We only know a fraction of what they are allowed to do.

Again, information can make you vulnerable in this universe.

There's plenty of warning in not making deals with fae and demons and sorcerers, and in the strictures of the Seven Laws.
Stay away from the subject of the Denarians until and unless we absolutely have to.

The supernatural is dangerous, and Rosie is at the bottom of the food chain in the most literal possible fashion.

The Dresden Files goes out of its way to routinely claim that the number of people who go missing every year roughly matches the losses of big herd animals to predators and that the root cause is essentially the same.

The supernatural world eats people on an industrial scale. At minimum we should instill the proper respect for it in Rosie early on, because we can't always be around to keep her safe and she's so close to the platonic ideal of its favorite victims that her main form of protection could easily be looking like a trap.

I'm gonna note most wizards aren't science idiots their tech idiots. Plenty have doctorates and have actually helped advance science, literature, and the arts in the hope of making the world nicer for themselves.

Edit: Given a lot of said sciences are out of date and there are most definitely some who really are just science illiterate or are too old for the new stuff.
