Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

So after our first real adventure we got Lydia. Now we have a nurse who is existentially terrified of us.

Minion 2? We have a minion 2 slot open right? Can we keep her?
I don't even know we have a minion 1. Are you sure we want a minion who had probably eaten old people? Imagine how much we had to pay for her food.

Also, I think that getting those cultist is the priority. Not sure I want to try that with this low willpower though.

[X] See if you can track down the escaped cultists

Temporary vote because I'm not seeing a better option yet and I don't wanna miss out on the vote. Again.

Lydia is minion 1. We got her fair and square as a quest reward!

That said, if they do end up bringing heavier weapons, I'd rather that Molly be the one in front.
Kevlar is of limited effectiveness against rifle rounds, and will do jack all if they bring anything stronger (IIRC you have to go to armor plates to reliably stop rifle rounds).
I don't really know how durable Lydia is beyond 'supernaturally so', and I would rather not find out the hard way that the answer is 'not durable enough'. Even if the answer is 'on par with non-Shintai Molly', remember that we lost half our wound tracks to automatic(?) small arms fire. I don't know how the rules work with automatic weapons that have deeper ammunition reserves (so not expending the entire magazine in one round), at least if one's strategy is consisting of holding down the trigger and sweeping the muzzle back and forth (attacks rolled against everyone in the affected area?)
It's possible that one of our people will have to interpose themselves between incoming gunfire and the civilians, and Molly, at least with Shintai, is the tankiest by a good margin.
Oh sure. My point was to establish that when they are on the clock, Knights are basically running either a Destiny Background or a very broad Excellency for the duration.

Usually subtle, but occasionally they choose to make a point, like when Michael exploded a dogpile of Red Court vampires attempting to bury him under their weight by speaking in Latin and flexing his shoulders. Or when five foot tall Murphy cut her way through an entire army of Reds to decapitate a Lord of the Red Court.

That saod, note that Molly only took that injury because the shooter literally emptied a full magazine into her chest.
it probably works for ccc if our intention is to get out not if our intention is to beat them and then get out. Maybe beat up in the process of escape. It really depends on our goals right?
Possibly yes.

There's no rules lawyering involved. If we are trying to leave a building, and someone intercepts us and engages us in battle, then they are physically stopping us from leaving. That's the definition of what triggers CCC.
I strongly disagree.

I draw your attention to the fact that our primary mission here has nothing to do with escape; its to save the people and end their being used as farm animals. It is not a reasonable expectation for CCC to kick in in a situation where we are breaking into the prison and killing or disabling the prison guards.

If this was a situation where we were trying to break out of prison? If it was a situation where we snuck in and were trying to get people out? You might have a reasonable argument. But not in this scenario.
My opinion.

COMMENTARY
-Looks like someone or something edited Usum's memories.

-These guys got balls if they were running a Raksha farming operation. More importantly, who provided their backing? And why? Because if you rule out Iku Turso, you're still looking at a situation where someone provided them with eight or nine digit resources(Resources 6 or higher) and a lot of obscure occult lore to pull this shit off.

- This operation has been running for a while now.
Where's all the other gossamer that was mined? And what do they want to build with it?
We need to suss this out.

-We only seem to have captured lowlevel minions.
Reliable guards, good Crown focuses, but not good subjects for interrogation,

-Niemi is a sorcerer. Probably not White Council wizard-class, because he apparently has little or no trouble with tech, but if he could wipe his office's contents with entropic magic, which is Water-aspected magic in the DF magic system, then he isnt just some spellworker restricted to rituals, he has some serious mojo.

Paths of Summoning, Wards and Binding + Hellfire + Fascination, at a minimum, because those represent the things we've seen.

Never give a magic user preptime. Especially if he's a summoner.
If he didnt leave via the NeverNever(and if he isnt White Council, he isnt opening a Gate easily), he's still in Cleveland.
Gonna need to run him down and ask pointed questions.

-Going to note we can donate Essence to Lydia.
In fact, dumping her current 4 Essence on Didi before marinating in a bleach bath tub for three hours might be our wisest move.

QUESTION
1)Whats the time in Cleveland right now?
2)Has Dresden or Mouse gotten back to us yet?
3)Did we loot or go through any cellphones from the captured cultists? Cell numbers and the like?
4)How extensive was the Cleveland traffic camera network in the vicinity of the nursing home? Can the cyberdevil we dropped in the police computers give us access?
5)Would using one of the victims as a focus be appropriate for discovering where all the harvested gossamer is?
6)Whats Michael's opinion of giving the Jack the reporter a heads up?

  1. It's 5 PM
  2. You have a message from him saying that he is he will be available to speak by 7
  3. No, it would take a while though since you would have to get your demons to hank them
  4. They can try for it, but that will be a roll
  5. No unfortunately, the apparatus would have been but you burned that
  6. Might put him in danger so he would prefer not to
@DragonParadox
I think that we need an info threadmark about Cracked Cell; clearly formulated limitations and the like.

If someone is trying to keep you in a location, not kill you, but fight with the intent to keep you in the place you are CCC applies. Fighting to kill does not count because they are technically working to send you away to the afterlife.

1) Okay. So assuming 30 minutes back to their hotel, another 30 minutes for Lydia and Michael to get clean, and three hours for Molly to recharge in bleach water (Molly donates her entire current 4/12 Essence pool to Lydia first, topping her up), thats 9PM before we can resume pursuit.

Thats workable; Niemi should still be trying to figure out wtf just happened.
And the captured guards and nurse should be in police custody.

2) Guess he can use Burny.
Im reasonably sure his home telephone line is still bugged by Daedalus. We really need to figure out how to enchant our phone so that electronic surveillance of any phone call we're engaged in will fail.

3)Ah well.

4)Fair. They can do that while Molly soaks. Molly will help even.

5)Ah, Molly forgot the First Maxim: Pillage, THEN burn :V
Pity.

6)Fair, fair.

Yes, but if this is part of a larger conspiracy then Niemi could be trying to figure out what happened from plane on it's way to Finnland in 3 hours. The longer we wait the colder the trail goes. Unless we go now it would require Niemi to make a mistake for us to...

wait...

Can we ask the ruins of his office where he is? He may have destroyed the stuff in his office, but the spell must have left SOME remains and that means we can use the remains of a spell he cast to find him at any point.

"Where is the person who destroyed this office?" sounds like a fairly direct question.

So yeah, waiting 3 hours may be viable.

What do you do next? Order of immediate importance

[2] Deal with the Red Court presence in town
[1] See if you can track down the escaped cultists
[3] Return home, someone is going to have to deliver all these Pathfinder goons to the White Council

The escaped cultists are a time-sensitive matter.
The only people in custody are lowlevel guards and a nurse who its unlikely anyone is going to try to free, so they're on their own; Lydia killed the only sorcerer we caught, and Niemi is in the wind. Lets not give him too much time.

Then we call the Red Court tomorrow and ask them nicely to leave.
After visiting a local church and sweet talking a nice priest into blessing a five gallon jerrycan of holywater for our handbuilt fog machine.

1)2006. 5 years post-911, assuming that happened in this AU.
You cant jump on an international flight at 3-4 hours notice, assuming there is even one available right now.
And if he's got gossamer to move, he probably doesnt want to run it through airport security.

Also, the cops are going to be looking for the director of the Souls Rest home, so he likely isnt going to be going anywhere near a facility that requires he pass his face through a camera.

2)Thats the backup question for if using the city's traffic camera system doesnt work.
Get back to the Home, enter the office and ask "What is the former office-owners planned itinerary?"

Too board, though the first part would work.
Ok, would the question "where is all the gossamer produced from this Raksha?" with the gossamer in our hands as focus burn the questions for all gossamer forever, or only for the gossamer from this raksha? Also, would the question "where are all the gossamer produced from this Raksha and objects made from said gossamer?" work, or would it be too broad?

Ask the machine where the gossamer it created currently is.

The machine has 6 sections to hold 6 people. Can we use each section of the machine to ask 6 total questions or is that too gamey?

Can we target the old people in the nursing home and ask where the gossamer their dreams got spun into is? That would allow us to save the machine as a target to ask who made it.

That said, note that Molly only took that injury because the shooter literally emptied a full magazine into her chest.
So, that would probably be somewhere in the ballpark of 30 rounds of… let's say 5.56mm NATO at the most, because the shooter was wielding it one-handed? So an intermediate cartridge. We took… three wounds from that, after soak presumably?
So something firing a larger round or with a deeper magazine could do a whole lot more damage.
That said, it does refer to it as a machine gun, although that could just be that it is an automatic weapon, given that Molly has no expertise in IDing that sort of thing.
Yeah, because a full-size machine gun would be at least two hands, if it could even be fired from the shoulder at all.

The guy was juiced with some sort of magic, so firing a battlerifle one handed is not completely out of the question.

Fun with recurring enemies I guess.

We already destroyed the machine that could tell us about gossamer.
The victims might be valid foci.

They had ARs. 5.56mm, over the counter.

So I assume it was a modded AR with a giggle switch and high capacity magazine.
Mechanically, full auto increases your chance to hit by adding +10 accuracy to your dice pool at the cost of burning your entire mzgazine and needing to reload.

Does that work, especially between different types of Exalted?
I don't have the book right now.
*checks*
Ah. My apologies, I was misremembering.
Solars and Liminals can do it, both to other Exalts and other supernaturals. Infernals cant.

The machine is conceptually one thing so one question and it has been used

Would that be changed for MGs that have sufficient ammo capacity that they would not be able to fire it off all at once?
Say, if the ghost sub had also sprouted some MGs as well?
Also, how high of capacity are we talking?
30? 50?
Even a drum with like 100 rds (a drum would definitely increase chances of a malfunction though)?

Doesnt matter. Game not simulation.
In order to use Strafing/Automatic, under the rules your weapon has to have at least half its magazine full, and will burn it all for a flat +10 bonus to hit. Doesnt matter if its an AR or Browning HMG.
