Would you Distort or manifest EGO?

As opposed to walking past punishing bird calmly, pulling a pistol on green noon, and doing like maybe 5 damage before getting killed by the robot?
It's like brainless and braindead.

On one hand. Why do you run to the deadlier fukin abnormality?

On the other hand. I literally told Hod to fucking train you for this. Why aren't you fucking high tailing it out of there you dumbass?

Even if there wasn't a chance of extracting an Abno instead of EGO, doing that would still be very counter productive. Giving Madoka an EGO encourages her to fight, not stay back. And Yuma shouldn't be on the table at all, she's like 10. You wouldn't give a child a loaded firearm and the same rule applies here.

Aren't there plenty of examples on E.G.O being useful for things outside of battle? Like the distortion detective's bag, or Angela's Library.

They can be used for battle, but their purpose isn't violence mainly.

I also highly doubt Yuma or Madoka will manifest an offensive E.G.O. It just doesn't fit them.

Speaking of, since we already have hypothetical Distortions for the girls, I do wonder what new Abnos might be derived from them if things go right wrong?

(But if we are serious about the Manager thing for Madoka we will at least need some means of observing things from far for her, aside from the Book)
Once we get tweety 2 eye ball boogaloo's Ego we can give a copy of it
Afterall that is part of the facilities capabilities....... could..... could we extract ego from distortions? They'd arguably be weaker than an abnormality's but much easier to use in exchange
I digress Lamp could be a useful ego for her as a manager, I bet she'd be able to tap into it abilities much quicker than X, mayhaps even have a high synchro due to conceptual resonance..... which may not be for the best but if there's anyone I trust with a tweety ego its her

The dimensional bag isn't EGO, it works similarly to The Black Silence's gloves. YuRia's Atelier, however is a very good example of non-combat oriented EGO.

In that case, I see no reason to be afraid of unlocking Madoka's E.G.O the safe way.

It's her own E.G.O. If there's anything in this world that is trustworthy, it's that.

You can clearly see a resemblance to Arizona, the Captain of the Extraction Team. She was perhaps the best fighter in the Facility, although she never really connected with any of her coworkers.
Is it just me, or is this an paragraph added later during an edit?

Also, just realized: We will need EGO to be Integrated before we can Synthesize them and make them stay, because once it's Integrated it is a part of X and therefore can be made permanently manifested like Alkahest

E: There's a fully safe way to unlock EGO? (That is, one that avoids the possibility of Distorting since that is obviously not safe)
I wonder if the ...scale of the Library is due to her having so much Light to use. (Perhaps we can expect a similar level of memes somewhere in Alkahest?)

None I know of in canon, at least that we can access since distortions detective apparently has someone who can help from the discussion, but if there's something that can do it, I think our method would be it, we ARE a representation of the very place where the overwhelming majority of the knowledge on it was, and the entire point of the extraction department was to do exactly that.

Frankly, I personally don't think there are any plausible chances of making our target into an abnormality or a distortion, especially since something tells me we would completely bypass Carmen, which is the biggest reason for people distorting instead of getting EGO.

It doesn't rely on light levels.

While indeed Angela does release most of the light back to the city at the end of Ruina, the Library's functions still work just fine. It's just in a bit wonky state since it just finished spilling out 99.99% of its guts.

The only thing the extra light actually did was it supercharged Angela to an Overpowered point where she can just snap her fingers and insta-kill people.

It's really no safe way of Manifesting ego
First it is highly tied to emotional state and ideology.
Second, you gonna expose your mind to ayin and Carmen and they're gonna inject their ideas straight into your head, which is dangerous.
trird, you have to fight with humans nature to find excuses for your own actions.
And lastly, if you walk one step wrong, you will end up as a distortion, and I'm not exaggerating it.

You are.

It wouldnt even be possible for distortions to appear if not for Carmen. X literally beat the shit out of Adam just to make sure that it wouldn't be Ayin who would make it possible.

If you take a wrong step, you just wont manifest anything. Thats the intended Ayin special.

If you can correct the way you think and come on top when you are in that negative emotion loop, then you're gonna fine, you're not gonna be that bad, but if you lose yourself into the loop, then you're gonna end up distortion because emotion power is still emotion power. They're gonna answer to your emotion, Negative or positive.
I believe you can end up in that state even if carmen don't push you into it.

Adam didn't want anyone manifesting EGO, he wanted everyone to be turned into a distortion/abnormality.

Arguably, there is a safe way of manifesting EGO.

Granted, we don't know the exact mechanisms of Yuria's EGO manifesting other people's EGO. For all we know, it flash forwards you through some traumatic event or subjects you to some sort of challenging scenario. It certainly seems on brand for Project Moon. But I don't think you can just skip over the self-actualization and growth that comes with manifesting your own EGO.

Or if it does skip that it will probably end up like philip, incomplete and underpowered

Actually, it can be anyone giving you the push, just like anyone can be the one who push you into unlocking ego like xiao and miris, Your mindset is the one real deciding factor here, You just need to be deluding yourself and in a bad enough emotional state, like yan or Philip, Those two don't have carmen pushing them until they distorted, Yan get dragged down into the deep end by the creepy lady and Philip got clowned

You should rewatch their stories, Carmen was the one who *helped* them makes the last step to becoming distortions, Yan has a conversation with her right before he plunge (the part where you see him hide his eyes and talk about how nothing he did was ever outside the prescripts) and Pluto explicitly tells Phillip to *follow her voice* before Phillip begins to also have a conversation with her.

Ok, so, debrief/check on them right now, maybe one or two jokes about the sleepover if the ambiance allows it (doubtful), general reunion to give our great revelations out of the way (like the fact that X... see Mami as a daughter!), and I hope we'll be able to finish with the Mami Kyouko confession discussion that will allows us to finally learn what in the heck happened to her.

Oh yeah, it completely slip my mind when it was brought up, but when a person awakened their EGO their Distortion disappeared.

Moses have a unique ability to "see" distortion on people. When she's looking in the mirror she see none of it on herself, another character she doesn't see any distortion on is YuRia.

1.6.2 - Creeping Ever Closer
Chapter 65 - Creeping Ever Closer

"Excuse me a moment," you say as you head to the door, "I should see who it is."

You open the door to see Madoka standing nervously outside the apartment, Kyubey resting on her shoulder. Homura stands behind her, glaring at the Incubator with an intensity that could melt iron.

"Hello, X! Are we-" Madoka's eyes drift to your arm for a moment. "Oh! I'm glad that you're doing alright. I know you said you'd be fine, but I was very worried."

"Yeah, I did say it'd grow back. You two sleep okay?"

"There were no issues." answers Homura, turning her gaze away from Kyubey to address you.

"What's this about you being okay?" Mami chimes in from the hall behind you. Before you can answer, she sees the guests standing at the door. "Oh! Madoka, Homura, Kyubey, good morning! Please, come in. X, Yuma, and I have prepared some cakes."

"Thank you very much!" Madoka says as she proceeds into the apartment. Homura stares at Yuma for a moment before following behind her classmate. Internally, you sigh in relief. It's not that you don't plan on explaining last night's events to Mami, but you'd rather wait until everybody's here first. That goes for most of the topics you're hoping to explain today, actually. That said, it would be better to at least introduce a few ideas individually. To break up the shock of things.

—————————

You sit at the head of the large glass table that Mami's rolled out into the living room to replace her usual smaller one. Your older child is seated beside you, pouring out tea for your new guests. Madoka and Homura are seated opposite you, looking down at the array of confections laid out before them. Gratitude overwhelms Madoka's slight air of nervousness, while Homura beside her has gone a shade paler than usual. The time-traveler stares forward, her expression cold and immovable as always but notably unfocused. Yuma is sprawled out over the couch to the side, already finishing the small cake slice you let her have.

"So, ah, you said you had important things to discuss? Is it about that monster from before?" Madoka asks. You pause to take a small sip of tea before you answer.

"Yes. At first I didn't expect Abnormalities to be a common threat, so I wanted to keep them a secret. Information can be dangerous, after all, and there's some things that are better left secret." You sigh. It would've been better for all your kids if they had stayed uninvolved, not just with you but with this whole business. Unfortunately, that's not an option anymore. "But now that they're showing up so often, it's better for you to be informed."

"I'll give a more detailed explanation once Sayaka and Kyoko get here, but for now I'll just go over the basics. Abnormalities are monsters unlike Witches, derived from a specific idea or concept instead of human grief. Even the weakest of them have unique traits that make them practically impossible to fight without prior knowledge. I already know the details for how to confront most of them, so don't rush in if you spot one no matter how urgent it is. Get in contact with everyone and wait to get more information. That's the only safe way to deal with Abnormalities."

"That creature from last night was able to take control of my body. Is that sort of power common for Abnormalities?" Homura asks, having shaken off whatever had come over her when stepping into Mami's apartment. Mami turns towards you, confused.

"X? Did something happen last night?"

It feels… wrong, hearing the worry in Mami's voice. You weren't the one hurt, there's no reason for her to be concerned. Before you can respond, Homura speaks again.

"While hunting, I found that Madoka had been entranced by a strange creature. I assumed it was a Witch and went to kill it, but fell under its control as well. Before I was completely taken, I sent a call for help to X. She arrived, and together we were able to defeat the creature."

"Oh." Mami seems shaken, lost in thought as to the disaster that went on while she slept unaware. But the moment passes and she regains her composure. "In that case, you have my thanks. Although if you had contacted me, I would have come as well."

Homura blinks, caught off guard. Silence settles over the table as the two Magical Girls stare at one another, unsure of what to say.

"Your assistance will be appreciated in the future." Though the words are detached as usual, you don't need your emotion sense to hear the tremor of sadness and gratitude in Homura's voice. Right, she and Mami are usually enemies, or at least opposed on principle. To be somebody she would lend aid to without a second thought… well, this is Mami, so perhaps not a very high bar to clear. Regardless, it still clearly means something to your fellow time-traveler.

"The point being," you say, ending the quiet moment once it has run its course, "Abnormalities are dangerous. Fighting them conventionally, without knowing how they work, should be a last resort." You pause, giving the kids time to digest your warning. For what you're about to tell them, they need as much context as possible.

"There is maybe one exception, although I'll go further into it once everybody's here."

"A-actually, I have a question." Madoka speaks up. "It's not related to Abnormalities, but I was wondering," she turns to Mami, "does X live here? I thought you only met the same day we did?"

It's not Mami, but Yuma who answers. "Mom adopted Yuma and big sis a few days ago! Kyubey said we could do it, and everyone thought it was a good idea, so now we're all family!"

Nobody speaks in the aftermath of Yuma's declaration. What is there that you can really say after that?

"Oh," Madoka lets out a small gasp, as if finally realizing something. "Then that means that you… I'm really sorry, that was inconsiderate of me to ask."

"No, it's perfectly alright." Mami assures the apologetic girl. "I was… I was able to care for myself. And I had Kyubey to look out for me. Even so, it's very nice to have somebody you know cares about you."

You almost miss the way Homura's grip on her teacup tightens. An emotion you can't quite place flares within her, but is smothered back into quiescence just as quickly as it appears.

"Speaking of, I don't know much about your family, Madoka. Would you mind telling me a bit about them?" you interject. Best keep the conversation light until everyone else gets here. You quiz the girls on their schoolwork, their music preferences, what jobs they might want when they grow up. Anything that isn't likely to trigger distress in one of your kids. They deserve some brevity before the heavier conversation. It's halfway through a discussion about which teachers are the best when Kyubey suddenly shoots awake.

"Yes, I had her two years ago. She-" Mami trails off when she sees Kyubey's sudden alertness. "Is something wrong?"

"The Abnormality previously identified by X as a significant threat has recently been spotted moving towards Kamihama City. I will be allocating all my available resources towards tracking it."

With the announcement made, Kyubey jumps over the couch and disappears on the other side. Those remaining in the room stare at one another, perplexed. The sole exception to this is Yuma, who sneakily took a second slice of cake when she thought you weren't looking.

Nothing There was spotted again. At least it's away from you and the kids right now, but it's a reminder that you'll need to do something about the monstrous imitator eventually. Planning how to topple an ALEPH, especially one with such straightforward strengths, will be an incredible challenge. Perhaps not one you are capable of. Still, you'll have time to contemplate this later. You can hear the sounds of an argument growing louder outside.

How convenient that Kyubey is away for now. It seems like we accidentally stepped on Homura's landmines regarding Mami, though, whoops.

[X] First topic:
-[X] Abnormalities

We did literally call them over for this, soooooo

-[] Write in plan Kalibrius v1
-[] Explain things in order of sense starting with the incoming Aleph class abnormality Nothing There
-[] after that move on to other Abnormalities, their nature, the dangers of them snowballing like melting love or parasite tree, and origins both natural and artificial... including yours, then explain EGO's the types and forms they can take... use yourself as example for abnormalities that though benevolent could hurt someone by accident
-[] use the Egos you summon as an example of weapon egos and the employee cards as examples of employee gifts, and finnally explain
-[] save your history, your role, the facility, the city and explaining why you know so much on abnormalities and why they were gathered and used, as well as other related topics for second to last
-[] save the magical girl information for last, they already have world shaking revelations on them, you can talk another time for this if you run out of time
-[] if they have questions answer them completely and truthfully

[] Plan name
-[] parts of the plan
-[] other parts
—[] subparts

[X] Write in plan Kalibrius V2
-[X] Abnormalities - start with Nothing There, then others that can snowball such as melting love or parasite tree, and elaborate on how they are harmful despite appearances otherwise, moving on to yourself and your nature before that part
---[X] show them the book of abnormalities you're working on and entrusting it to madoka as the 'manager' of the group, the vital leader and information keeper
-[X] EGO - the various types, using the egos you've recovered as examples of weapons and using yuma's ego gift and the employee card as ego gift examples
-[X] other related topics such as your world, your history, the facility, etc for second to last
-[X] MG Information - if they can take it at this point
----[X] if they have questions answer them completely and truthfully
-----[X] don't hold back your emotions, they are your children, officially in the case of yuma and mami, be fully honest and forthright... and if you cry and greive over the employees you couldn't help and had to put down for their own good due to an abnormality's influence or the sense of fear and shame at having become the very thing you fought and contain show, it's okay, they are your daughters, THEY DESERVE TO KNOW THE TRUTH AND IF THEY BECOME SCARED OR HATE YOU BECAUSE OF IT, SO BE IT

there's a reason the last one is relatively unchanged
X had to save her agents at times from their suffering or state of being
Ie unlocking Lamp and help us get closer to our daughters by tearing down a gap between us and them by hiding our status

Edit Why was there a smiley face in my post, I'm pretty sure I didn't use an emoji
