Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Question: If the Ankou has been captured inside a circle by the necromancer's (or Mathews) would Mab be allowed to kill him or would she be unable to, because she is not allowed to interfere with the necromancer's.

Or if anyone else would so so.
For definitely related reasons: Can Molly still make a circle? :p

In DF, I'm pretty sure anyone can make a Circle, even what are effectively muggles. The issue is the difficulty in powering it up. Rituals can do it, I think, and blood and willpower can work in a pinch, IIRC, but not being able to freely manipulate magic is a significant limiting factor for them.

Since we can only expend power in motes of Essence, which is apparently the magical equivalent of enriched weapons grade plutonium, any Circle we create might be a bit more sturdy than normal.

In terms of immediate actions, it seems to me like we have a relatively narrow window where we can take our team of heavy-hitters to extract Matthews and flip him to our side before Katrina gets back and probably has him killed (or just orders his other granddaughter kidnapped to continue assuring his obedience). She's currently in the same "underground with no cell reception" situation that we were in earlier, so we have a relatively narrow window in which we're able to act against her before she'll be out again and able to freely issue orders. If we give her time to figure out what happened with Cindy and act on it, we'll probably lose our chance to get him back onto our side.

We know where she originally took him to in the city, and that was probably whatever base she's operating from or whatever site she wanted him to be doing the work she wanted him for at; he's likely still in place. Without her there we likely can overrun any defenses and minions. The concerns about Lydia and her dad are probably more important than Matthews, but it seems to me that they're also less urgent since the deadline on them involved Katrina's plans coming to fruition and luring him into a trap, or Harry finding him which we have loose control over the timing of. Shouldn't we deal with things in roughly the order that they're likely to go catastrophically wrong if not stopped?

Realistically, with the tools we have, the best outcome is Arawn dead after having a talk with his daughter, the mantle NOT going to Lydia, and us getting a new circlemate who counts winter as an enemy.

I don't particularly see why. Arawn not dying and simply getting away from both the Necromancers and Mab seems quite possible. Not necessarily easy, but by no means something we should give up on.

If we had the Cold Queen in our sight, can we ask our Crown for a secret of hers where our silence is worth Dresden's debt?

Then try to blackmailbuy his debt off, including his current search?

(I expect that yes, we can get such a secret, but would have to roll for the negotiations)

Sure you cold try to look for her darkest secret and use that against her, just keep in mind that in order to blackmail someone with information you have to ensure the information gets out. That may be a bit more complicated than shouting it in a public square, Mab would be worried about specific people knowing her secrets.

Can we ask for something more specific?

Not her darkest secret, but the one best suited for believable blackmail?

[X] Talk to everyone present, to work out what options exist that don't end with with Lydia suffering in eternal slavery to the person who has all reasons to make her life miserable as a tool of misplaced revenge against her father
-[x] Ask Gard if her employer would be willing to intervene in the situation, provided we deliver Katrina to him.

That is a bit vague, you are asking your power to make a judgement call on what she would believe of you and no no small part that depends on how you present which is a blind spot. You can ask for 'the secret that I could most efficiently and harmfully disseminate'.
Blackmailing Mab, or more likely attempting to blackmail Mab, seems like a fantastically bad idea, unless the goal is to comment suicide in an unnecessarily complex and dramatic fashion.

I would rather wait until we're at least powerful enough to survive long enough to do more than bend over and kiss our asses goodbye after making the attempt.

COMMENTARY
Sudden realization: Uriel asking Molly not to use the Crown on himself or the Swords was also Uriel obliquely telling Molly that the Crown would work on all of the powers and principalities of Earth's supernatural power structure, and preventing her from wasting questions on exploring her limits. That was a very subtle move. A plus.

Things that Molly doesnt know: Maeve is Nemesis-infected. And its something that Mab only discovered recently recently
Which puts Mab recruiting a young woman of power she can mold in a very different light.
Because while Sarissa exists, Mab has always preferred to have backups for her backups for her backups.

This is a situation where we really could have used Michael's moral clarity. And the implications of his presence.

We are assuming Arawn is a good guy. Is he? He did have dealings with Kemmler, but so did Demonreach, and Bob.
Just like Mab had dealings with Anduriel when she first came to power and had to stabilize things without any help.

Do we know what plans Arawn had for his daughter?
Do we even have any way of knowing? Because I remember Papa Raith treated Inari Raith pretty well too, right up to when he attempted to forcefeed her someone's life.

Why would we want Mab to get anything she wants at all. She's Molly's enemy.
1)This is not true. She's not Molly's enemy. She's never been Molly's enemy.

In canon her handmaiden Lea is the only reason Molly survives the months after Dresden's death, and Molly ends up as her Winter Lady and primary backup. Mab is a complex character who can and will do a fair amount of dark shit if she sees it as necessary, but she has very few enemies.

2)Because Mab is hard, but she is not capricious. She does not hoard power for the hell of it.
She can be wrong, but she is governed by what she sees as necessary.
And she runs reality's defenses, so her opinions are very Important.

When Aurora attempted to transfer the power of Summer's Knight to Winter during the events of Dead Beat, she had to try to do it without Mab's knowledge, because Mab would have stopped her.
Even Maeve would have stopped her. Then.

This. Anyone can make a circle.
Bob made a circle that kept out ghosts during the Darkhallow, while operating a polka drumset, and he doesnt have a lick of magical talent.

QUESTION
Do we know if Lydia can bring stuff back from the dead without the mantle?
Because IIRC, in ExWoD Exalts can give Essence to others.
And if the point is to resurrect her father, supercharging her by donating Essence to it might work.

You do not know, you would have to ask her IC. Right now she does not know anything of what you just found out.

No idea how well the last bullet will actually work, but I feel like we should make some effort to hide how busted the Crown is. Bob is kinda a known factor/sourced from Kemmler right so ehh??

Molly is not Mab's enemy. Mab, however, is Molly's at this time.

I asked something like this. We need to ask. I guess I should modify my vote:

-[x] Ask Gard if her employer would be willing to intervene in the situation, provided we deliver Katrina to him.
-[x] Ask Lydia if her powers include resurrection or something like this. If they do, we might be able to supercharge her with our power.

Bob is one of Harry's most closely guarded secrets.

Ah right. Well. shit. Idk could Dresden somehow bluff Mab said something that leads him to this conclusion? Siigggghhh, hey maybe we can staack overflow on the stuff we reveal to Gard so she doesn't know which one to share first! :V Though more seriously do we have anyway to hide the extent of what we can scry for (absolutely fucking everything) and the limits (once per focus)?

The dot is winter court, not Mab. There is 'this person messed around with one of my subjects and maybe sort of stole something, could be useful later since it was doing nothing' and there is 'this person personally humiliated me and ruined one of my plans'.

Molly's feelings towards queen Mab are not outright enmity but between the circumstances of her Exaltation and seeing what she did to Slade she is convinced Mab is evil. Whether that means she will go out of her way to make Mab lose if up to you guys.
