Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Cindy continues to amuse me. Here's hoping her sister turns out to be a magic user as well; and both are recurring minor characters. Giving Molly a small taste of her mother's anxieties sounds hilarious.

Porter as a usename? Interesting choice. Definitely not his True Name, but his choice of name is suggestive. Older than the city isnt that impressive, given that the first non-native American settlers were only around 1790, and the city was incorporated in 1837.
But choosing to become an essentially urban elemental is certainly an interesting choice. I wonder what he knows of Demonreach.

Lydia's comments suggest that she was convinced to invite the Capriocorpus into her head.
Which suggests her father taught her nothing about basic safety protocols and stranger-danger when dealing with spirits and the supernatural. Thats childrearing malpractice for someone in his line of work.

Poor Charity is about to get a bunch of impromptu guests dumped on her head
The more I think about the number of eggs the woman juggles, the more sympathetic to her I am.

Hmm. Michael's wounds looks like a Per + Occult + Stunt roll
That was an interesting encounter roll; rolling 76 on a d100+30 at DC45 suggests that if we hadnt gotten Porter to move us, we'd have only barely avoided a combat encounter on the way out.

[X] Explain that as much as you are working with anyone it's with Harry who is in jail

OOC? Our XP gain seems to be related to how many things we try and succeed at, so we cant exactly make a habit of shunting stuff off on others. And this is a relatively low risk endeavor.
If Molly fails, Michael or Gard can take over.

IC, we're the only person here that Lydia knows, and who has a previous relationship with her.
That makes us the best person to attempt to explain things to her.

-[X] That's kinda a start of a long discussion. In short, I am a free agent, and am in this to help a friend and out of the general "stopping nazi necromancers is a good thing" civic duty sense. Dad is a Knight of the Cross, if it tells you anything - they are God's agents protecting people against forces of evil. Ms. Gard is an ally, she's here for personal reasons.
we probably also get exp for holding back if it takes effort on our part and is a good decision. More of a self check roll like for example where we have to be cordial with someone whose murdered people we care about due to a greater threat. Generally probably mechanically better to act though.

You think we could try making the earth elemental's place less a fortress and workshop more like a meeting for chicago Supernaturals? Kinda like a magical version of community farmer's marketplace.
It's kind of really out of the way for that, and requires traveling through hostile territory to boot. Probably not the best place for this kind of thing unless we set up a broader transport network that makes it easy to reach.

Even then, these places are really valuable for all kinds of reasons, making it a farmer's market would make it vulnerable to being taken and fail to utilize everything it can offer.

It's the sort of move you'd make to show off how wealthy you are, not invest your seed money in.

Although Arawn works for Mab, he can't be a fey. He's like Odin, an Immortal with a capital I entity from before the universe existed/time began who has chosen to take on a mantle belonging to the Winter Court in return for greater ability to interact with the material world, just as taking on the mantle of a Celtic god allowed him to do back when that religion had worshippers.

I'm not sure whether when Gods have children, the mantle they're using at the time is the determining factor in their scion's powers.

Something to consider is that Immortals like deities can't be killed except on Halloween, although mantles can be transferred. Mortals can only ascend to Immortality on Halloween as well.

Thinking of why Molly smells of divinity, if the old gods predate the current universe, so may her Exaltation.
okay I already said this once the word of god on before time is for angels and the white god there is no word of god on other gods. Some maybe sure there is no evidence providing any of them do though.

He is not Fae. Probably. However, he is Winter Court. Just like Knights are Court without being Fae.
Or how you have human lawyers allegedly sworn to Winter.

We dont see godchildren in canon, so who knows if its even possible.
The closest I can think of is Dracula son of Drakul, and it didnt seem to matter.
The Ankou was worshipped as a god, but that doesnt mean it was one.

They change how they present in a lot of fundamental ways, so I don't think it's totally out of the question that it does matter. We don't really see it at work in canon in a way that specifies one way or the other.

Mantles all have to follow some big rules, but the individual ones can have some variations.
For example, the knights' mantles can be moved around more freely, in part because they're weaker but also because they have a different purpose.

At the very least this whole sequence of events implies that Holt and corpsetaker think there is a loophole here of some kind that cheats the major rules, so I wouldn't take stuff like Halloween limit as exclusive fact. There could be edge cases or modifications from how the setting was crossed with exalted that change how things work.
Going to note that normally, the Sidhe Courts cannot interfere with mortals who do not already have dealings with them.
The Sidhe are twisty and can rules lawyer a lot of that, but it significantly circumscribes their ability to fuck with mortals.

Thats why the office of the Winter Knight and Summer Knight exists; people who are Winter/Summer but arent fae, and so can freely work their Courts will in mortal society. With the current Winter Knight hanging on a cross in Arctis Tor, being tortured for treason, Mab has limited options.

Which is why, I think, you see her using Dresden as an agent a lot more after the events of Summer Knight.
She's making do.

Losing the Elder Ankou, who is Winter, but has a preexisting portfolio that allows him to deal with mortals and similar entities that fall into his bailiwick like necromancers, mediums and the like would further circumscribe her available options at a time the Winter Knignt is out of play.

They did and about 20 miles.
So, the passenger is at least human-looking enough to pass observation by paramedics / cops (can Black Rider tell if there are still cops and/or paramedics at the scene?). So, probably not a combat form golem / zombie of some kind. My suspicion that this is Elder Ankou being blackmailed are increasing.

Stoped in front of the tattoo parlor. She got there about 5 minutes ago.
Okay, cool.
Stopped for five minutes suggests she actually wants to investigate.
And that Capri didnt run to her immediately to report.

Time magic or a veil to walk past the cops; the thugs are gone to hospital or lockup by now.

Thirty minutes to Cindy's former cell, thirty minutes back to the surface.
Thats an hour. If she tries to follow our trail that takes even more time, in an area where the predators have been roused.
Here's hoping she wastes the next two hours spelunking in the deep

@DragonParadox
QUESTION
Can we check Agent Wright's recent messages and phone records as well for anything of interest?
Since we think the Capriocorpus was the one that staged Greene's murder, and that they might have influence there.

I wonder if the Elder Ankou's picture appears online, now that we've seen what he looks like.

Or is just wearing a veil/glamor that renders it functionally invisible to casual scrutiny.
We've seen Elder Ankou in our Crown of Eyes vision; no indocation he lacks vital signs.

You are going to have to vote on that as it would actually take some time for Molly to review that, she is not a computer and Clippy cannot judge what she would find interesting.

Actually... @DragonParadox what are "vital signs" that the passenger is lacking? Are they room temperature cold (or colder?)? Do they not breath? Are their skin too pale?

Not breathing and room temperature.

book 19 or 20 should apparently be about gods here's to hoping it doesn't take a decade to come out.

We haven't seen any god scions in canon not sure that means they don't exist. So maybe god scions exist though who knows if they even count as demigods anymore since the gods can't exactly wield godly powers while on earth so maybe they don't pass much when they have kids or can't have kids period. gods can at least appear in mortal society as long as they don't circumvent freewill or affect anything on a large scale. Unless their willing to take on mortality and not being able to use a lot of their cosmic power in which case they can do a lot like odin. Some gods are apparently stuff like celebrities, touring around, or doing other such mundaneish things.

The elemental smelt divinity from Lydia, which a pretty clear sign that Arawn is a god.

[X] Let dad handle things, he is probably used to the whole post-rescue situation more than you
[X] "Some teenagers laze around during the Summer and others get a crappy minimum wage job somewhere. I decided to do something to actually make a difference, though, so now I fight evil. I've had some great role models," gesture to Michael, "like my dad here who is literally a Paladin, and Harry the wizard detective, who would be here, too, except Nazi necromancers framed him for murder yesterday. We're trying to get him out of jail, but that's a whole other thing. If that all sounds too ridiculous, I'll remind you that you were just possessed by the ghost of an infamous necromancer."
[X] Gard's been doing well with the talking so far let her handle it

It also identified our power as "divine" and older than Lydia's. While older should, arguably, be correct (for a given meaning of older when "before time began" chronology applies, possibly multiple times and in different ways). Exalted are not gods. Yozi aren't gods either, and neither very Primordials, except in a very loose meaning of the word "being benefiting from worship and possessing superhuman powers" . What Porter means by "divine" is a question. It's likely a broad category of beings.

I slightly specified what we say about Gard, else all we say about her would be yes, she has a reason for being here, but we won't tell you anything about it.

Which isn't a good stance to take with someone who just got taken advantage of due to not having enough information.

A dragon-adjacent organism that old has to have some interesting collectables. While I have no interest in them myself, I imagine our eventual renovations of his bachelor pad will include something of a display gallery... though I'm not entirely sure on what period architecture we'd be aiming for. Twenties art deco, sicilian baroque or villa, just making sure he has a wide screen TV and a hyper durable couch sized for a subway train of a lizard? Shit straight from the more decadent parts of the Demon City with a little bit less focus on carpets of still living human skin?

We need to spend an afternoon just going through decor ideas. Once, you know, the murder cools down a bit.

Divine in the meaning of authority and power. Exalted are all divine in by right of being exalted. And old yeah Dresden head passenger shard, whom explicitly knows every language ever used by humans for all of their existence some 200k-2million years does not know the right term to use for Molly exaltation as it never existed in the Dresden human lexicon.

The solar exaltations that the infernal ones are made from were themselves made by a god and infused with his essence and nature.

Lydia doesn't know who Katrin is. And this is a balancing act, really. Gard would probably tell her something herself. It's not like we are stopping

She kinda does, or feels she should, but there is an "oath" that precludes her from understanding what we are.
"I have some guesses, quite a lot of them in fact, but now is not the time to share them." She tips her head to the side, thinking. "As as gesture of goodwill I will say this much, when I saw you slip off that torment tree I got the feeling that I should know precisely what you are, but I didn't and a phrase came to mind, in Latin of all tongues: 'Hic sunt dracones'."

"Here be dragons," you breathe. Latin is not your best subject at school, but you do like history and that was one of the things they used to write on the edges of old maps usually with dragons and monsters drawn in.

"Maybe ask a dragon, they remember much and their tongues are less bound by oath than most, but beware their pride."

So it is that with the words of a Fallen Angel still ringing in your ears the vision fades to mist and the mist takes on the familiar hues of cream and white that revolve into the shape of Saint Mary's. Harry is still sitting right where you left him, but he looks like he has been though a hell of a run, breath rattling in his chest.
Now, what that oath is, we have no idea. It can refer to many things, up to and including Oaths of Surrender that Yozi swore and to which White God (if it's a Primordial of some kind) might be somehow bound (I will laugh and laugh and laugh if White God is the Neverborn of Ebon Dragon merged with Sol Invictus or something equally ridiculous). The phrase itself might also mean tons of things, from "we are from beyond the borders of the world", i.e. the exaltations are from beyond the Outer Gates, to "don't poke the thing that can make Oramus claw its way back from beyond Oblivion if its observed too closely".
