Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Yeah, next turn, depending on how much xp we have, we may want to spend 4xp for it. It is very cheap for what it does.

[X] Agree that it's more important to get everyone to safety
-[X] Check everyone for possession, including Cindy

We originally came to save Cindy, and found and saved Lydia.

We are at a bit less then half our essence, Michael is wounded, and the girls we saved are still here and potential liability. only Gard appears to be at full health.

So lets take our losses and leave, though we do need to see about contacting Lydia's dad, and Cindy's grandfather.

Unfortunately, it doesnt go to our Hell until we get one.
And she's big enough business that she might be able to cut a deal to get out. If a Yama King needed a catspaw against the new demon emperor to be, a work-release program is a nobrainer.

And she would be Motivated.
Per the clarification DP posted we don't need to worry about it, but even for the other charms that do send the targets to hell I don't think the demons would be immediately hostile to us.

My bet is that they're even hungrier for souls than ever, and a new supplier they don't need to do anything for is a welcome opportunity.

If I was an archfiend, my angle would be trading summoning tutoring and possibly minion rentals for charm backed damnings of various spirits. Then slowly building dependency and alignment based on those exchanges.

Specifically by starting with small, easily hidden, exchanges and then trying to work us up to doing something big and public enough to alienate most other powers we could work with.

We likely wouldn't go for that, but I think they'd at least try for the low risk high reward option first before picking a fight.

The Capriocorpus had won a jackpot, stayed to play one final hand, and then lost everything, barely making it out with her life.
Lets learn from her mistakes.
Know when to run.

The fluff says it's a spirit killer so it's a spirit killer.

Interestingly, the fluff says the murder itself nourishes the Infernal (rather than the spirit/soul being eaten like Ghost-Eating does) and the Hell, and as Hells are nourished by the souls they imprison, it makes sense that the system says it consigns the spirit/ghost to the Hell of being Flayed Alive.

Your ruling, of course, but it seems clear that the intention is that Infernals charms that would do things like spirit/soul killers instead imprison souls, and that they then do have a chance of escape, given the FAQ.

It also makes sense in a way, as the Infernal Exaltations have taken on some part of the nature of the Hells, and they're all part taking/stealing/reprocessing souls, not destroying them. They may be a corrupted part of the cycle of reincarnation, but they're still a part of it.

What I think Infernals are lacking isn't a way to Perma-kill spirits, but something to do with captured ones, like how in 2E they could render demons down for crafting

We should probably make at least a token offer before taking another ride. Maybe some sort of basic armor? Not enchanted, just something like what we're wearing.

If he ends up our minion then it's to our benefit anyway.

I think the problem is that the charm makes clear the nourishment comes from the target, but somehow just planeshifts them to hell without any consequences anyway.

It seems reasonable to say that getting chewed on by an infernal should do something really nasty to the spirit beyond moving it around. Especially in the context of reprocessing it for essence in a world where that's precious and rare.

We need to meditate all day to get back that amount of essence, drawing at the max rate what remains of Molly's talent can pull on magic energy. That's a lot of power to traumatically rip out of a system all at once.

Pretty much, if you are consuming something for sustenance digestion should do more than move it around.

We can presumably talk about that when next we come down here to start upholding our end of the deal.
Note that we dont even know its name.
And its apparently deliberately not sharing it in front of all these people.

Or maybe it doesnt have one, and our eventually giving it a Name is going to be Significant.

On Lydia's dad - a possibility that he's the one with Holt needs to be considered. Assuming Holt was in contact with Capriocorpus and they were working together, he could be being blackmailed to give up his life in exchange for his daughter's.

Can we consolidate votes? uju32's plan does a good job of covering our bases in the short-term.

We have 6 Essence. I do not feel comfortable spending more till after we actually escape Kathrina.

Given our current skills we are very unlikely to need more than 4 in combat.
Excellency, IPM and possibly Shintai.
Of course, there's a non-zero chance we might want to use more, like for GSNF, but the core-parts work without it.

We have 5 Essence.
WoG is that we get +2 Essence from the events of the latest scene.
  1. It has been 30 minutes since you asked Black Rider the last time putting you at 15 minutes from her arriving at the tattoo parlor. It is now 4:20 PM
  2. The elemental does know ways out, though you will have to roll to persuade it to take you there riding
  3. Lydia took no damage you cushioned the blow
  4. Between the Dragon's nest and finding that Lydia was possessed you get that +2 Essence sure
  5. You would have to vote to look through her phone, specifically because the only way you are unlocking it is with HMP.
Thats what we're spending on the Excellency and HMP.
Leaving us with 5 Essence until we get home.

Maybe, but this is a civility thing. The guy doesn't work for us, and we've asked for a favor beyond the scope of our deal once already.

Acting like someone is your employee, or knows you well enough that you can just ask them for things, is rude.

Especially since this is effectively the same service he just sold to us, so it's established he charges for it.

He's an earth wyrm playing train in a supernatural subway station, literal free rides are probably not his favorite thing.

Im loath to make more promises when we havent even begun to deliver on the one we already made.

Is it fair to think we owe him/her/it more? Yes, agreed. Should we discuss it when next we come down here to start work? Yes. Statuary, jewelry, handmade precious stones for a dragonhoard, a personal temple, whatever. But I dont think we should be making more promises without starting on the one we already did.

And from a narrative perspective, this does not seem like the time to discuss this.
Kattrin is only 15 minutes from the tattoo parlor.

I mean, he can see why we're asking. Its not a matter of convenience, its a matter of her father being injured.
And if he has any sort of supernatural senses whatsoever, he has some idea of the nature of the magics wielded here, from White God mojo to Old Norse magics and Molly's quasidivine Power.

He can reasonably expect not to be shafted.

I'm not enthused about more debt either, but we can't expect to get things for free. If we want services we need to pay for them, and being slippery about agreeing to do so does us no favors.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to save by avoiding it. If we're planning to put the effort in anyway then not saying so up front is basically just reserving the right to screw the wyrm over if we feel like it, which he should know.

Narrative time or not, the characters shouldn't fail to respond to their own interests and conditions to move the plot along.

A prolonged negotiation would be bad, but tossing a minimum "crafting effort of X scale" line fixes the specifics of what we're offering and does this the right way without slowing us down much.

Especially since if things are pretty much as they appear he'll respond to our request by asking us to pay him anyway, so we're just skipping ahead one round of the conversation.

This should be a cheaper fare than the first one though, since we're asking him to take us somewhere safe(ish) and not to hunt down a possessed pseudo-demigod.

This is pretty out there, but do you guys think our mechanics specialty is good enough that we could build a 50 cal integrated into a wyrm sized neck brace that he could fire with his mouth? Sort of like this:

Not because it's necessarily a good use of our time, but because it's funny.

Keep in mind that the elemental has shown some degree of mutability, it's not like handholds make logical sense for it to have and yet he has been able to produce them. That would indicate that maybe he does not have to fire the gun with its mouth. :V

That's even better. I know it's a silly idea, but now that it's in my brain I can't help but want to make it practical.

50 cal ammunition is probably not the easiest for us to supply unless we make it ourselves, which is a waste of time. 12 gauge shotgun shells, probably slugs to make it more effective against tough supernatural creatures, are a lot easier to come by.

A gravity feed from a supply on his back could hold a comical ammunition supply, and the front piece could have a simple three toggle interface.

One for the safety, one for the trigger, and one to chamber a new shell based on something like a pump action system. If he can use telekinesis or little actuators to toggle them then that's all the better.
