Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Arctis Tor is the seat of power of one of the Great Powers of the setting.
All of Winter, which is not just Mab and Maeve, but Old Mother Winter, and all their vassals and allies. Its one of maybe two powers we've seen onscreen capable of holding an Exaltation against its will short of the forces of the White God in the Dresdenverse.

Chitchen Itza is pretty new as things go. Post-Christ settlement.

If the Reds had ever had the mojo to hold or even tap a fraction of the power of an Exaltation, history would be drastically different. For one thing, Cortez's expedition to the Americas, and all the subsequent Spanish claims on Central America and Mexico, would have been marked as eaten by the locals. Literally.
Age is not a good indicator of power. Not always - Demonreach was made by Merlin, and Merlin is post-Christ, even with time travel involved. And our exaltation was held and used by Yomi Wan demons, wasn't it? Before it was taken by Winter. And individual Yomi Wan hell is likely somewhere on par with Red Court.

I mean, I am not saying this is absolutely true, or even likely. But I don't think it's impossible.
WoD had the Exaltations located in either the Himalayas or resting in the Spirit World.
Yeah, I know. We should look for it at some point. As an inroad looking at any building and asking "where is the oldest building on the planet?" should give us the location. Or at least a clue.
Not really how supernatural politics works. Dynastic matches are not really a thing in DF, with very few exceptions.

Mab's daughters, for example, were the product of an affair with an Austrian composer by Word of Jim.
Not some political ploy.
The Dresdenverse is very meritocratic that way.
On one hand, yes. On the other, there's a purely mundane factor of "he's from a very good family, who are 'in the business' as well", which would at least affect the disposition of her father, I believe.

Also, on a separate note, some questions I think we should get answered via the crown, if only for lore / fun / long-shot unlikely information gains, in no particular order:
1) Who killed Kennedy?
2) The fate of Elvis
3) Either the identities or locations / places of origin of any extraterrestrials to have visited Earth. Also "the list of true alien abduction stories / people who were really abducted by extraterrestrials". This could be used to at least distract Daedalus project people, to potentially establish contact and get a source of advanced non-human technology, which might or might not be subject to techbane, and on the very, very low probability end of things find Autochtonia, because people in there, if anyone is still alive, would count as extraterrestrials, I think.
4) These ones can and should be used after we get to E3, get some wish granting and training charms, and our kingdom - go to various competitions and use them as catalysts to look for identities of the "world's smartest man", "world's most talented human martial artist", etc. Then recruit those people. We can have minions. We should get the best ones. Looking for objectively best teachers is also something we could and should do. Schools / universtities for our siblings as well.
5) "The location of the world's oldest building" - we could also specify "man-made building" and possibly (if this is not too OOC) "prison" - these ones could be used to start our investigation into our exaltation, and potentially to locate the Black Vault.

This.

Not really. We dont have the charms to do this, we dont have the Resources Background or the Allies.

This is the point where we realize IC there is a problem in the first place with the ghouls, which spells further research.
But we do not compromise our primary mission, which is Cindy, or what looks like a secondary goal in Lydia.
The ghoul issue, if we take it up, is looking to be a significant problem in its own right, not something you rush.

Remember that, as @bengalqueen and @BronzeTongue have pointed out, we're a baby Exalt. Emphasis on baby.
We are not anywhere near equipped to guarantee our own safety yet, let alone taking responsibility for double digit numbers of facultative carnivores.

The best thing we can do for them now is scare them enough to run away, so we dont have to kill them.
When we're done with our necromancer problem, we can talk to Bob about ghoul magic biology, and Father Forthill on the ethics involved with dealing with them

Ultimately, I dont expect to get significant movement on this before E3, which is when we unlock the inner Hell as somewhere you can dump prisoners by the score.
This is a pretty good in character reason for molly to turn her thoughts toward kingdom building and resource allocation.

Aside from our mortal friend we kinda left out to dry. Still needs must and all that.

And who knows? Maybe Odin will be willing to sign us a fat check for helping take out one of the fallen valks.

Arc 2 Post 34: Fires Mortal and Divine
Fires Mortal and Divine

22st of July 2006 A.D.

As you take a step foward you look at the room. Dark, silent and with a heavy feel to the stagnant air. These creatures are not used to light and that might make enough of a difference. With a thought you let bright nuclear fire envelope your sword, uncounted burning eyes open above your head and your entire form is engulfed in a nimbus of green flames.

Lost 1 Essence

The next word out of your mouth does not sound like you, nor like any human voice, it is the dry, hot wind of deserts to be, the roar of infinite furnaces the sound that the world's end might make:

"Leave"

The shadows race the light outwards from you, revealing the sudden coiling of backs and hunching of shoulders, beneath the horrors of their feasting an all too human dread and in a moment scatter like yowling and hissing, calling out to each other.

"Bones come on!"

"Fuck you Lockjaw!"

As they struggle to pass through the only passage beside the one you had come from and the grate whence you were heading, a narrow tunnel still encrusted with filth and dripping a slow sluggish current, you see the smallest of the pack fall behind, no being pushed back, as if they were an offering to the wrathful power that had come to invade their domain only for another slightly larger ghoul to pull them forward and offer their own back to your sword.

"Let them go," you say to Gard, worried she might see this as a chance to clean house of the servants of her hated sister, but the warrior just looks on stone-faced as the ghouls finally manage to flee.

"We couldn't afford to fight them," you say, feeling a little defensive all of a sudden. It does not take Usum whispering in the back of your mind that they would not be the worst servants to realize that you might have spared the literal people eating monsters for their own sake. They were people too weren't they?

Thankfully dad doesn't look like he disproves, more like he's a little bemused himself. About what to say to you or just about the whole situation? The idea that dad is in as much of a quandary as you are is itself disquieting, though you don't have long to consider it.

Click... hiss, the sound draws your eye back to the valkyrie. You are not sure what you had expected 'ward breaking' to look like, but it hadn't been like a compact handheld blowtorch coming out of the same duffel bag the flashbangs had. Not to say you could mistake it for a normal sort of tool. Here bronze cast back the light of your anima, there black iron absorbed it all covered in runes and what looks like the stylized form of a bow repeated over and over amid the black leaves. The mark of Höðr, the blind archer and unwitting slayer of Baldr, you suddenly recall, the memory of leafing though a book of mythology for kids coming back in sudden painful focus. A perilous thing for a servant of Odin to forge into her tools but potent...

Gain 2 Essence

When she turns it on chanting slow and sonorous the flame is blue-green rippling to purple like the northern lights. With practiced grace the draws lines in the air directed at each of the four corners. The fire passes over the steel of the grate seemingly without even heating it, at least as far as the eye can discern though you hear a wailing and a beating of chains against stone as though from some deep place . Gard keeps chanting, her voice level and her hand steady as the flame passes over lines seen only by her.

"Come on, we have to pull this clear now!" she snaps as she draws the final mark. "Katrina would have felt that blind drunk at the bottom of Lake Michigan!"

Part of you wants to ask why she hadn't told you breaking the ward would be so loud, but mostly you are too busy rushing to do as she asked to waste breath.

There is a scream from the other side and in the light of your anima you see Cindy on the stone slab struggling against something without flesh, without form, a murk that poisons the air. The specter, it is trying to posses her... and then she screamed again. Anger, fear, pain all coiled together and hurled at the thing they flash like a magnesium flare and the darkness pulls back as if burns.

You and dad both charge it, the Sword of Love reflecting only cold silver radiance amid a thousand whirling eyes of flame.

Alas the specter seems to know to avoid the holy sword its cursed existence cannot turn aside, but it is less careful about yours, perhaps because it does not know to fear it, perhaps because it can only fly so quickly, weightless though it be. Once, twice you cleave as it flies from corner to corner always trying to slink closer to Cindy, then it seems to quiver and flies like a back arrow towards the floor, trying to flee... only to be struck by the arc of Gard's axe glowing with a rune like forgefire.

"That will only have banished it but it will have to do," the sighs. "It's not as though Katrina can be doubly alerted."

"Who are you? What was that thing? What did I do!" The young voice grows higher and higher with each until she sounds at the edge of panic.

Only then do you fully realize that fire at the beginning had been Cindy, had been Cindy's magic. Heck of a way to find out you are gifted.

What do you do?

OOC: Welp that was a thing, I was expecting the specter to possess her and put you guys in a hostage situation... Instead the rolls were all over the place, poor Michael could not hit the thing even though he threw more dice at it than you and Gard, but on the other hand the kid literally rolled more successes for willpower than she had dice at the start.

Time for Harry to meet his future apprentice.

I think Michael will probably be a bit less terrifying than we are. Plus he has years of kid wrangling on his resume.

Do we have a photo of Lydia on our phone? I think the situation might warrant burning a question to find her. Yes, essence economy, but her falling into Katrina's hands is a pretty damn big fail state.

I'd go after Kattrin next.

Ultimatly now that Cindy is safe, she has a very limited time-window of getting Matthews to do what she wants.
So she'll either work as fast as she can on whatever she needs him for, or she will kill him soon.

Either way, time to bring her down is now.

Messaging Matthews in some way that we have Cindy might be a good idea then.

Cool.

How?

iunno. haven't thought about it further than 'this might be a good thing to do'.

maybe someone else comes up with a method. maybe there's a spot where Clippy gets enough signal to place a call, or we try to make a 'signal booster' while walking, with John and Gard taking the lead on where to go next

Once we get back to the surface we could contact Black Rider and tell him to inform Matthews KITT-style, if the car is anywhere close to the ritual site.
