Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

@Goldfish

You are getting lots of votes. Can we add to the plan to ask for everyone to vow to not hinder one another with the tasks of bringing our target to justice, rescuing the girl, and ensuring Harry Dresden knows the location of the deathgod he seeks, until all three tasks are done or until 3 days have passed?

I would like to avoid a positive comitment, bit a "lets all not baclstab one another" oath sounds wise to ask for.

The Enduring and the Lost
COMMENTARY
1)Here's hoping Gard's line isnt tapped.
She works for Marcone, and so FBI Organized Crime and Chicago PD Organized Crime probably would both have a legitimate interest in doing so if Marcone didnt have the political clout to be essentially untouchable.

I wonder if Gard has the magical ability to shield her line.
And if we can do so to ours, so any phone call coming into or out of our phone is untappable. Guess we'll spend a wuestion finding out in the future.

2) Interesting that Michael recognizes the name Capriocorpus.
He has been doing this job for at least twenty years, but I didnt realize the Capriocorpus was that infamous.

3)Kattrin having crossed swords with Knights of the Cross and lived to tell the story very much contextualizes how seriously we should be taking this woman.
Serious Business indeed.

4)I had no reason to love him implies that Kattrina was her literal sister. Whether biological or adopted, Im not sure.

5)Kattrina's original name being Cwenhild is Old English; Lancastershire, according to Google.

It helps us date Kattrin, and Gard herself; the fact that her father was an English priest from when England was barely a nation puts her birthdate prior to the 10th century AD, when England's first king Aethelstan was crowned.
At least a thousand years old.

Max of around seventeen hundred years if her father was a Christian, since Christianit came to England around the 3rd century AD. Potentially much older if he was a pagan priest.
She old and scary as fuck.

6)Cwenhild. Pronounced KAHIY-NHHihLD †. Old English language.
Means battle queen or woman of battle.
Significant names.

7)"Bloody handed traitor and coward." Damn Gard, tell us how you really feel about her.
I guess we have an answer to the question of how Odin et al would react if Kattrin suffered critical existence failure at our hands.
Still would prefer not to have to kill her. For Molly's sake.

8)Knowledge unlock.
Figuring out Gard is a Valkyrie is a major piece of the local occult puzzle, as is being aware of her boss.
I wonder if Michael knew beforehand, or if this is as much news to him as it is to us.

"Þetta fer allt í hring."
"It all comes full circle" in Icelandic.

So that is a yes on Odin, in some form at least.Looks like whatever you will be revealing here will get to the ears higher than just Marcone, but can you afford to keep anything back when a little girl's life is on the line?
What powers of yours do you reveal?
We dont know this IC yet, but Odin is Kringle. Santa Claus and Winter King.
That means that even if Gard doesnt realize it or mention it, Odin has independent sources of information on us, including at least some idea of what was buried under the tree in Arctis Tor.

So we can assume that everything we showed in Winter, and which we've shown in front of Marcone's people here in Chicago, will be known to Odin in pretty short order, assuming he doesnt already know. Magic sword, master swordsmanship with bursts of superhuman proficiency, mildly superhuman durability and resilience, mastercraft armor.

The way things are going, we'll break out shintai before arcs end, so she'll see likely be witness to its debut if she's around.

The things we havent shown: Cyberdevils and Intellectus.
We can mention these vaguely, as spirit whispering and divination. At the very least she needs to know how we're tracking Kattrin, she just doesnt need to know the exact machanics.

10 successes on getting in touch with Gard.
4 successes on identifying Monoc
The dice have certainly made their preferences clear.

I'm not completely opposed to something like this, but I think asking it might seriously offend Gard.

After she made this statement;
"We are none of us quite what we were but we remember still honor and valor. Even in this changed world, there will still be warriors true and so there must be those who choose."
By asking for an oath we're basically implying that we don't trust Gard's honor, which is apparently quite important to her.

We ask no oath we would not take, nor is trust something we should easily hand out in this world.

And she does not know US. When the moment comes for her to take the head of the one who betrayed her, she will know that neither of us will stand in her way on moral grounds.

Everyone will likely be happier if we all agree no hindering one another.

Just because she survived doesn't mean that she was victorious in any of those instances. While she may have been, she could have also been defeated and taken prisoner. IIRC, the Knights have to attempt to redeem their enemies before going for a kill, not just Denarians who they try to talk out of their Coin. She could have simply lied about repenting or escaped captivity if taken prisoner.

If she is some manner of sorceress, she could slip into the Nevernever relatively easily and most Knights wouldn't have any way to stop her short of killing her.
But she does not know US. When the moment comes for her to take the head of the one who betrayed her, she will know that neither of us will stand in her way on moral grounds.
Again, that seems like a problematic assumption on our part. It's also something Michael might not be able to swear, since he's obligated to offer enemies a chance to repent. If she dies in combat with us or Gard, that's one thing, but if captured after the fact, he may not be able to standby while Gard executes Katrina.

We cannot make that claim or that promise.
Our father is a Knight of the Cross. They redeem Denarians.
Gard has been around for at least a millenium, she knows that this is what Knights do.

I am against the oath. @Goldfish if you add it please make it a seperate vote.
I don't want to add it, either. From what we know of Gard, even just what we've seen of her in the previous chapter, I don't think making or asking for an oath is the right thing to do. From one angle it looks like we don't trust her to remain honorable, and from another it looks like we feel it necessary to bind ourselves in a oath so she'll trust us. It's just a bit weird, IMO.

Supernatural beings don't swear oaths lightly, and we shouldn't be seen as doing so at the drop of a hat, even if they aren't actually as binding for us as most would assume.

Survival against the bearer of an angel sword is a major achievement in its own right.

And no, the Knights do not have to attempt to redeem their enemies before a kill.
Ask all of Nicky's cultists in Death Masks and Small Favor. Or Shiro holding Deirdre with a sword to her throat when Nicky had Dresden with a knife or gun in Death Masks.

There's a divine guidance thing in play. They are forgiving, but they arent obliged to take stupid risks.
Thats the way they, or it, works.

Okay, I wasn't sure about that. My memory isn't too fresh on those details.

I still don't think Michael would be cool with Katrina being executed if she is captured or surrenders.

Done.

[X] We are an extremely skilled melee combatant, specializing in the use of a magical sword we can summon or dismiss at need. When we will it, our sword can harm beings who would normally be resistant or outright immune to damage, and this damage is difficult to heal, even for creatures capable of rapid regeneration. We, in turn, are more difficult to injure and can fight at full capacity with wounds which would be crippling if not fatal for a regular mortal. We are also highly resistant or immune to effects which target our mind.
-[X] Share with Gard what we have learned of Capricorpus and Matthews' likely abilities as well, along with the likelihood of mortal backup possibly being empowered with rage spirits or other supernatural enhancements.

[X] What abilities should we expect Katrina to display? What about Gard herself, at least that which is relevant in this situation?
1)We need to provide some explanation for how we're getting our information. Else she either tries to get confirmation, wasting time, or she worries if we are being fed information as a dupe, causing friction. Our dad is here in his offical capacity, so she can assume we're not acting in bad faith, but that doesnt mean we cant be a dupe.

And I think it would be smart to provide some advance justification for our pullimg stuff out of our ass.

2) She saw Gorfels. She knows rage spirits are in play.

I'll try to write something in a bit.
After I get something to eat.

Executed out of hand? Probably not
Taken home to Scandinavia and tried, then chopped? No problem.
Called to surrender, refusing, then getting murked in the fight? Ditto.

He's a Knight; these things work out for them.

Something like this?

-[X] While it isn't likely to be relevant in a fight, we have some limited talents related to divination. This is how we were able to track Katrina's car after we encountered her at Matthews' home. We cannot, however, track her if she changes vehicles or travels using some other method.
-[X] Share with Gard what we have learned of Capricorpus and Matthews' likely abilities as well.

[x][Reveal] Sword skills, GSNF, and durability. If pressed, mention some minor spirits we can summon for info gathering.
-[x] Molly settles into her seat and rolled her eyes heavenward in thought. "I've become a master of armed combat, superhumanly durable, and I've got a green fire that can 'seriously' put a hurt on people. And what it burns is a... " Molly stops and glances at her father, sitting with her, and clears her throat. "That is, it's very difficult to heal, even with magic. Oh, and I can pull a sword out of thin air... as far as I know." Molly shrugs. "I'm not even sure of what I've become. Ask me next week and I could... " Molly searches for something something insane. "I could become a cyberpunk Santa's reindeer and I wouldn't know it."

Almost said Godzilla for that, but thought it would be a bit too meta or ironic.

[x][Ask] Cwenhild's abilities and what she can even potentially bring to bear in this situation.
-[x]Molly takes a deep breath, leans forward on the table, and looks Gard in the face. "Look, I'm going to be honest here. My father and I are going into this trying to save a little girl, and help save a penitent man's soul, and my sum total knowledge of Valkyries comes from reading Thor comics, the cliff notes for the Ring Cycle for a book report when I was a freshman, and what you've mentioned here. I don't even know enough to know what to ask. So, I'm going to lay it out here; what do I need to know about her? Can she fly, or turn invisible? Does she have any magical weapons or items I need to worry about? Known allies or minions? How good is she in a fight? What does she know about magic, can she cast spells in anyway? What do I need to worry about from her?"

Really, we're given a write-in, and no one's thinking stunts?

fairly sure if she surrenders truthfully and michael attacks her the sword breaks. Given she has to actually surrender.

Close. I would eliminate the cancelled bits as not relevant.
And in my opinion, you're overly specific in some areas while not giving any context for others. Literally not mentioning spirits to a Valkyrie seems unwise IMO.

I will doing a rephrase in fifteen or thirty minutes.
Amd I will definitely write some Asks.

So label it stunt instead of reveal.

Literally only ever happened once in the series, and that was Fidelacchius.

As Butters demonstrated, the sword is not so much about physical structure as it is about the idea of the sword.
Besides, both Fiddy and Espy have been reforged multiple times.
Amoracchius is the only one that hasnt.

I mean, its worth remembering that the Swords and their own nature obliged Sanya and Michael to accept Quintus Cassisus' surrender of his coin in Death Masks, even after his connivance at the death of Shiro, and his intent to go back to Nicodemus after the Knights had left.

It didnt make them stay to prevent Dresden breaking the dudes kneecaps with a baseball bat.

Made some changes based on your suggestions. I'm not sure that mentioning spirits is relevant here, even if Gard might notice their presence in some manner. Katrina didn't detect Black Rider in her car, despite driving it for hours, so Gard isn't likely to be significantly more sensitive to such spirits.

We are also more difficult to injure and can fight at full capacity with wounds which would be crippling if not fatal for a regular mortal, and we are resistant to effects which target our mind.

[X][Ask]
-[X]Katrina: Known capabilities and weaknesses if any. Known backup/associates. What did she betray, if relevant?
-[X]Gard: If she knows or has met the current Eldest Ankou in Chicago; Choosers and related lines of work because they are both retired psychopomps. If she has heard of a Black Feast or the Capriocorpus. If she will back us up, short Cliff Notes of what she feels is relevant to her combat capabilities
-[X]Valkyries: Any chance of backup from any of her sisters in the next couple hours?
-[X]Monoc Security: And just what does Odin One-Eye do these days in his retirement/new line of work?
