Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

No. Infernals at E2 can use the shintai for 3-4 times before it gets too expensive.

At E2 you can also purchase many refresh charms, some cheaply some expensive.

At E3-4 is when you can start freely using shintais and get the secondary ones.

It is why I called it our Emergency option and not a war form. At E2 it is that. At E3+ you have options to pop it more freely.
We have to make a roll based on our Essence-Rating to go Shintai more than once.
We only have 2 dice in that pool, which means any further use of Shintai is extremly unreliable.

That is what the refreshes are for. But this is a conversation for another time. Once I am on the computer with access to the pdf I'll make a better reply.

Hmm, potential wisdom from a broken winged crane?

Wait, where on earth does that book fit in the lore anyway? because it's explicitly atemporal

I think it was written at the end of the world in Exalted, after the victory of the Yozi.
That is long ago by now, it might just be a book, or completly destroyed now.

Copies of it were floating around and corrupting the Hungry Dead in the WoD, and as we seem to have them here as the Jade court, the same might be true here.

The more I think about it the more I think that what this world needs is a non-evil Wolfram and Hart. Something set up to run interference for those who are anything but normal. Legal representation, middleman and broker, dark and terrible fudger of paperwork. All while willing to accept favors as a legitimate currency.

We could do this and just hire fae because they basically exist to spout legalese

Vote closed, a bit shaky on how to interpret the stunt in light of the fact that there are slightly more people who voted plain than those who also voted for the stunt, but I have not seen anyone argue specifically against it. From now on the rule will be if you are against a specific stunt, but do not have a preference of your own you should vote -[] No Stunt. to be clear.

You could yeah, the bigger problem is that most of the powerful fey are taken so you would have to take on minor Wyldfae and those are not what you would call patient or long term planners.
Yeah. We'd have to hit the big leagues for us to be able to hire the services of fey that would be useful for that sort of purpose. Not that minor wyldfae wouldn't have their place, especially considering that some of them accept food as a valid form of payment. They just wouldn't be the legal team.

And we'd need mortals anyway because we would be lying like bastards in paperwork form. Fey are good for contract law for obvious reasons but that would probably not be our largest service, honestly.

So, back on the computer.
All refresher-Charms require sending a powerful supernatural being that is explicitly not a Creature of Darkness to one of the hells.

That is very unlikely to happen often, for several reasons.
We are unlikely to fight and kill many great spirits.
We are even less likely to fight many that are not creatures of darkness.
We propably don't want to send those to hell.

That is something to think is Dresden magical talent. Because by most possible interpretations the god charm that is VED should by all right be able to increase peoples magical talent. 5 years and 5 wishes could turn a no talent mortal into a potential WC member. After a few decades to develop the new talent thou.

No.

The Infernal can grant any of the following: a dot of an Attribute; a dot of an Ability; a dot of a Background; a Merit; or she can remove a Flaw.
This is relativly specific and it does not include the stats that measure metaphysical power.
No Arete, Gnosis, Generation, Essence or other supernatural main-stats.

I see no reason why it would fundamentally improve a Dresden Wizard when it can't improve a V20 Mage Wizard.
Of course it can make people indirectly better at magic, by raising Intelligence, Occult, etc. But not the power itself.

Arc 1 Post 28: More than Magic
More than Magic

10th of July 2006 A.D.

Telling the truth as you discover is harder than lying, it might be the hardest thing you've ever done. You don't want to hurt Rosie.... but the last time you acted in what you thought was her best interest without a care for what she wanted you had hurt her more. So softly, hesitantly as you had not spoken in quite a while you admit: "I did get in some trouble the night Splattercon got cancelled...But I had people come get me out." A memory of the pumpkinhead exploding in green balefire fills you with momentary satisfaction. "And well..."you motion wordlessly at your obviously healthy self. "You're not..."

Lost 1 Essence

"Wait, that was real, you all splayed out on a tree of ice?" Her eyes go so wide it looks almost painful, her voice dropping not in disbelief exactly, but like someone who desperately wants to disbelieve. "That's... you should be in a hospital."

"I heal fast," you reply bracing against the next question.

"How?" the word is ragged, teetering on the edge of realization. It is one thing after all to believe that you can dream something that is really happening to someone else, crazy, but like Nelson's yoga friends crazy. Someone getting over the wounds you should have gotten from that tree, that was real crazy.

"That place wasn't in Chicago, with all the ice and the..." you trail off letting her pick up the thread if she wants.

"Those things from Splatercon Hammerhands, the Scarecrow. Those weren't... weren't... people were they?" One more step, one more realization admitted to herself.

"They are called fetches," you explain, staying away from the word 'fey' even Queen Mab's name in case she remembers a Midsummer Night's Dream, a new name for a new and terrifying reality would be easier to accept. "They are like psychic vampires, but not like ruin your day bad feng shui or whatever, they scare you as much as they can so they can feed on that. That is why they were movie monsters, because everyone is a bit afraid of the monsters in a movie and they made it real."

"How... how do you know all this stuff?" She sounds less lost now, like she has a suspicion at least.

Before she can teeter back into denial you say the word. "Magic, that is how I healed as well, they were magic and I'm magic as well and Harry, you remember Harry?"

A wan smile passes over her face. "Friend of your dad's, twice your age you doodled his name with hearts in your notebook."

"He's not that old," you say, reflexively like old times' sake and just for that moment it feels like you are back to normal, not just before the fetches and the magic, but before she had miscarried the first time before the drugs and the arguments.

It is quiet for a moment between you then... "He's magic as well, he was one of the ones to help get me out."

"Like a fairy tale," she teases you, but her voice is fading again.

"I really hope not, I don't think I have it in me to wait around like an overdressed lamppost for him to decide he loves me," you reply with honest exasperation.

"You always knew what you wanted in life didn't you Molly?" she shakes her head sadly then looks at her stomach, hand hovering over it, not quite touching. "I haven't even been able to keep from fucking up my own life and now I'm supposed to take care of another one. Nelson's gone you know..."

And good riddance, you think anger over what he had done to Rosie more than enough to wash away the guilt for what you had done to him. "I know," is all you say aloud.

"Mom wants me to put the baby up for adoption, says it would ruin my life not to," she continues. "I don't wanna give her up, my life's already ruined anyway." she starts crying softly.

"Shh," you wish you could hug her, but you are a block of ice still, all you can do is talk. "It'll be alright."

"No... it won't... nothing will be alright again..." she gets out between sobs. "I don't have any money and mom won't support the baby."

"I'm sure she is just saying that because she thinks it;s best for you to give it up, I'm sure she'll come around when..."

"Do you think Jared will come around?" Her stepfather's name is a spike of hate in a sea of anguish. Rosie and him had never gotten along with him since Mrs Wilson got remarried and she had always taken his side when they argued.

You open your mouth to try to calm her again, but then you realize you have more than empty words to offer. I could win the lottery, or make diamonds, or gold or... a thousand other things you have not thought of yet. You could make enough money to take care of that baby a thousand times over, but should you?

Here and now listening to Rosie sob her eyes out you would do it in a heartbeat, but this would not be a pledge for here and now, it would be for as long as that baby needs support... and it would link it to you and to whatever enemies you make.

What do you do?

[] Offer Rosie as much money as she might need to take care of her baby, you'll figure it out somehow

[] Keep quiet, this is too big a promise to make

[] Write in

OOC: Well that went about as well as it could have.

Generocity, just as mercy, is the privilege of the strong. And we are nothing, if not strong. Plus, having an exalted godmother would probably make this child's life interesting. Maggie will need a playmate, after all.

[X] First, she is going to focus on getting better.
-[X] Second, you're going to research the shit out of every charity and possible aid she can get. There are things out there, and you're part of a church that likely has plenty of connections for that.
-[X] Third, you are here for her. If all else fails, you will find ways to help and support her, and you can do a lot.
-[X] Ultimately though, she has to remember that you're here for her. You are not going to demand she rely on you. If she needs something you can help, but you also want to help her get better and have a brighter future where she can be independent on her own.

Of course it can make people indirectly better at magic, by raising Intelligence, Occult, etc. But not the power itself.

You cannot give magic stats, but you can give merits and since she is supernatural, if only barely as a minor talent you can grant supernatural merits, like say:

Danger Sense (3 pt. Merit)
A heightened state of awareness allows you to sense impending harm. This gift could originate from primal perceptiveness, intense conditioning, spirit voices that warn you of danger, nanotech sensors, or other methods of refined cognizance. Whatever the source of this Merit might be, your Storyteller must make a secret Perception + Alertness roll for you when some otherwise hidden threat is heading toward your character. The difficulty for this roll depends upon the immediacy of the danger; a distant, abstract sort of danger (like a plot to kill you) is far harder to sense than an onrushing disaster (like a sniper's bullet), and would thus have a higher difficulty (say, difficulty 10 for the plot, difficulty 6 for the bullet). A simple success would tell you that something's wrong, while a large number of successes could pinpoint the nature and location of the threat.
Your Storyteller, of course, is under no obligation to give you objective details about that threat. She could be as vague as "A chill tightens across your scalp," with perhaps a hint of the direction and nature of the danger's source ("A sudden metallic clicking sound echoes in from behind your right side. What do you do?")
.

Or for something more general

Lucky (3 pt. Merit)
Lady Fortune has a thing for you. As a result, you may re-roll a failed die roll (botches included) up to three times per story (not per session). Each do-over may be rerolled only once, so don't push your luck too far.

You could even go for something like the following, though keep in mind that any spirit summoned and bound by the magic of an infernal is unlikely to be a nice mentor

Spirit Mentor (3 pt. Merit)
A ghost, Loa, or other ephemeral entity has taken a special interest in you. As an expression of favor, this entity teaches you things few mortals ever have the opportunity to learn. Although those lessons do not include Sphere-based magick, you could learn insights that help you to expand your knowledge and better understand the nature of Reality. (See Raising or Learning Spheres in Mage 20, p. 337.) More often, though, this entity tells you secrets, offers you enigmas, and helps you work through situations that would leave
most mortals scratching their heads or crying in corners.
Your Spirit Mentor could also teach you new Abilities, or help you improve the ones you have, if such teaching seems appropriate to the spirit in question. A data-entity might be able to teach you about computers, while an incarnation of Zhengyi Zhenren's tiger could teach you tiger-form kung fu.
Such teaching tends to take place in the Otherworlds, or in dreams, rather than in the material realm, although a spirit who can Materialize (as the Charm of that name) could certainly teach a person in her own home realm.

In terms of wizards, like full ones you could at the very edge of what you can do grant something like this:

Sphere Natural (6 pt. Merit)
For a single element of magick – the Sphere of your choice –you enjoy an innate proficiency. The powers of that Sphere come to you more easily than usual, and you advance faster in that field of knowledge than you do in other Spheres. System-wise, you pay 70% of the usual experience cost, rounded up, when advancing in that Sphere. Naturally, such advancement costs even less when you're raising your Affinity Sphere.

This would for instance make Harry a natural at Mind or Spirit magic overnight, even at Life which is really rare for wizards in this world. Taking a wish from you would leave a mark in his magic under the Sight even if he does not take the three to make him a Creature of Darkness

Life-Denying Curse just requires sending any Supernatural to a Hell, I think.

And we can replace any Hell with our Kingdom once we have it and just keep them in super prison.
Condemning a supernatural being in this fashion "rolls back" the number of times the Infernal is considered to have attempted to don her Shintai form during the current story by one, reducing its cost or difficulty accordingly (to a minimum of Essence 2, Willpower 2, and no roll requirement), so long as that being isn't a creature of darkness.
Eventually we might be able to use our kingdom, but that is definitly another step in Essence away.

All in.
Having someone depend on us is a good reason to be active, maybe to work for Marcone or something similarly risky.
I certainly don't want to go out only because our dad's boss sends us.
