Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Plan First morning
-[X] Do your homework (Will prepare you for class, in the absence of it Academics rolls to keep your grades up increase by +1 DC; if you do not take it repeatedly you may have to make excuses to the teachers)
-[X] Make protective under-armor (can be taken multiple times)
-[X] Go out with your dad and actually do some good, whether it is
-[X] Ask your dad about the supernatural world, his perspective is bound to be different than Harry's

I don't know how I feel about our staying versus going. I was a hardcore supporter of giving Charity this one olive branch but folded because it wasn't in character. The way I'm rationalizing this is that we're just saying the words that will take the wind out of our mother's sails... but in the sense of going along with her demands rather than agreeing to them. It would be inconvenient to fight her here, we aren't going to be winning, and there isn't anything we need to do right this second that we can't do within her terms. But we conspicuously are not bound to her terms.

We won't breach them until we see a need to and if we do we'll first look to our father who is one of the most reasonable human beings alive. He'll rarely make the wrong judgement call and will let slip our leash the instant it becomes the right course to take. But... yeah, if push comes to shove the chain around our neck is naught but dust motes and sunlight.

We did not agree, we abide. Its not too much to see this through until highschool graduation to avoid burning a bridge.

Its probably meaningful that Charity is the one Intimacy we have thats at least partially negative.

Love/Resentment is not a healthy combo, this didn't help and I foresee it can go to shit if bad luck comes.

In a sense this is also Molly's internal reasoning oddly enough. Like there is a reason Molly developed her magic as she did and why when doing Black Magic on people's heads the effects were as mild as they were.... believe it or not this is what mild looks like. She is really empathic, like not just in the sense of being able to see the world from their point of view, but she reflexively does that. She took those kindergarten lessons to heart about thinking what the other person is thinking in no small part because that is a big part of how Michael and Charity's brand of morality work. Let he who is without sin raise the first stone. These are people who know with the same certainly they know that the sun rises in the east that God is real and no sin you can commit in life is beyond redemption in His eyes if you repent. The standing command of the Knights is to save the Denarians from t he Fallen. One of the two knights active is a former Denarian.

So this is where Molly is coming from with regards to her mother, she wants to understand and she does not like judging her, but on the other hand she does not like being judged. Like many teenagers she is opposed to the esthetics of conformity and does not see why her mother would ask her to follow them, they clearly do not matter in the big picture... and never mind that you do not get a job or live your life in the big picture for the most part.

So she resents Charity for constraining her and in hew view being a hypocrite and on the other hand feels guilty for being judgemental herself. thus the way she has found to cut the Gordian Knot previously was to leave. Trouble was of course she was not just leaving her mother but her whole family which she does not like.

The other reason to leave was darker and one Molly herself is not entirely aware of, because she does not want to think of it. What if she really is a monster? I mean she has a demon in her head and is weirdly OK with that, her powers come from hell, or from some transcendent thing that stole pieces of hell. So from that perspective staying is an affirmation that she is not damned though it comes with all the baggage of the above.

I hope this post helps inform why I think both leaving and not leaving were in character.

Well, right now I think and I hope that Charity is overreacting due to trauma.
She saw her daughter hang on the torture-tree, she nearly failed and died herself in Arctis Tor and shortly afterwards Molly throws herself into danger right away once more. She also learned a lot of stuff she did not want to know, like Molly having used dark magic and her having hell-themed superpowers.

All these things are a good excuse for her current behavior.

However if it continues like that for more than a few weeks or maybe a month, then I can only see us going towards more confrontation and escalation and then leaving the house would be the only sensible solution.

Like many teenagers she is opposed to the esthetics of conformity and does not see why her mother would ask her to follow them, they clearly do not matter in the big picture... and never mind that you do not get a job or live your life in the big picture for the most part.
That part is passé anyway.

We are living in the big picture and some too-obvious tattoos or piercings certainly won't influence our future wealth and power.

Because it is her saying 'no I am not a monster I am safe to be around by family'.
Well, unless that thought is a mistake she'd find out in the worst way possible.

I get that she's not that pessimistic, its just funny to my perspective a bit.

"I may be dangerous to my family and my judgement compromised. I know, the best way to show how not compromised my judgment is, is to trust it."

Basically, if she ever actually thinks this idea consciously and through, its either paranoia spiral or having faith in herself.

Welp, it is a 5 vote difference between the first and second plan so vote closed

But I think it would also be nice to visit Rosie. Molly needs closure too. I'm also not that excited about learning more about the super natural now. Since, in principle, we aren't going to be looking for trouble alone.

Arc 1 Post 8: Diligence's Due
Diligence's Due

8th of July 2006 A.D.

Night passes on swift and gentle wings taking with it the last of your wounds as if they had never been. It's too dangerous my spider bitten frozen foot. Thankfully the dawn has also brought it's bounty of essence together with its soundless wake up call. So you shower while the showering is good and you get dressed for the day. Namely you put on an old faded pink shirt you do not mind ruining, a pair of heavy duty cargo shorts that you probably couldn't ruin even if you tried and a pair of steel-toed boots you got at a yard sale on a whim just in case you have to peddle at the hell lathe today.

Gain 4 Essence
Heal 2 Wounds

Speaking of the grind you speed through your homework with more focus than you are used to though not because you have gained a sudden interest in the workings of temperate ecosystems or the intricacies of Great American Novels (TM). Like with the test there is simply more room in your head to be bored and to spew out the answers with ink on paper or make their keyboard sing to a melody monotonous. Both of those being metaphors Usum comes up with to make the whole thing a little less boring. Apparently repetitive and unfulfilling work to standards you do not care about is one of the things that service in hell immunizes one to.

You are done by lunch and in a good enough mood thinking about what you will do in the afternoon that you manage to be civil to your mom, honestly complement her cooking and even make smalltalk... about the weather. It would be funny if you weren't living it. Thankfully it does not take long for her to get distracted in this case by Amanda asking to go to a sleepover. Enjoy it while she thinks your friends are cute and doesn't try to interrogate them every chance she gets...

Shaking off the thought you follow dad when he takes his paper into the garden and ask him if you can use his workshop.

"What for?" he asks surprised.

"I want to make my own armor," you reply simply.

"Well you should ask your mom about that, she is the one who made mine and maintains it as well." It does not take a detective to realize what he hopes will happen, not that he is trying to hide it even.

You hate to squash his hope but... "I don't think mom would know how to use these tools or want to be in the same room as them."

"Oh." He pauses and you expect questions about what you plan to do to his workshop, but he just says. "Well I won't be using it this afternoon, be sure to clean up after yourself OK?"

"Sure dad," you reply, touched.

***

The workshop is on the second floor right over the kitchen and it is one of the more enduring rooms in the house. While you have all changed and switched room and even had bigger rooms cut in too to fit a growing family this place had been set up like this practically since the month you arrived here, a big sunny room filled with the smell of oil and varnish, the odd bit of sawdust to tickle the nose, all the drills the saws, the clamps, the hammers and all the other tools in their place. But of course this isn't just a carpenter's workshop over in the corner is a small forge and a lathe for drawing wire and twisting it into chain for chain-mail together with some rather anachronistic pieces of Kevlar and ballistic mesh.

You pull down the blinders one by one until the only light is the mark on your brow. Within that light you reach letting balefire twist out to illuminate the room as it had never been before under the gaze of your eyes. From the wavering shadows you pull tools unseen upon the earth as inspiration bubbles in your soul like tar from some antediluvian well.

Lost 1 Essence

What are you most skilled at?
You may use your full crafting skill in your specialization, -1 die in related fields and -2 in all others

[] Blacksmithing (includes weapons and armor as well as pre-industrial tools)

[] Mechanics (Includes auto repair and construction as well as large scale construction)

[] Jewelry-making (includes polishing and cutting gems; working with precious metals)

[] Write in

OOC: The first one gives you all your dice on making the armor you are about to make, options two and three have blacksmithing as related and of course the reverse is also true.
