Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

"I do have a phone you know. I can just..." you cut yourself off as Usum interjects. "I know little of machines mistress, but this much I recall, ever has the wild surging power of mortal magicians been the bane of their fellows' artifice which even the smallest eddies in the fabric of things can burn."
Doesn't Harry mention in the first few books that the mark of magic changed over time since the rules of magic also slowly vary?

Back in the day milk would spoil and stuff like that. Before that it was presumably something else.

[X] Do as Harry asked and call Detective Murphy from his phone

Well yeah, that Usum is saying is 'whatever the cutting edge of mortal artifice is magic gets in the way of that'. Doesn't matter if it is computers today or water clocks in the ancient world.

No sense letting Stressed Harry techbane the phone by accident

IIRC, unless they're deliberately trying to amp the effect up or doing active magic, a wizard's anti-technology aura doesn't actually extend very far beyond their body. He didn't do anything magical in Molly's vicinity while she was visiting, nor did she attempt to use her phone near him, which could have also prompted the effect to zap it, so there is no reason we shouldn't at least try to make a call using our cell phone after putting a bit of distance between Harry and us.

The possibility that this is an attempt to lure Harry out and isolate him for one reason or another is too high to leave him alone right now. Even if this was part of a ham-handed attempted to frame Harry for attacking the cop, Molly needs to stay nearby if at all possible to be a witness.

[X] Back 30 or 40 feet away from Harry and try to use our cell phone to call Murphy. If that doesn't work try again at 60 feet. Only after that attempt fails will we do as Harry asks and use his home phone.

Man, inability to interact with technology sucks. Why would anyone be a Wizard in the 21st Century. How do they contact each other over long distances? Carier pigeons?

Old rotary phones in the case of Harry's generation. In the case of those who are even older... magic. Harry has it better than most, he can use a car even if it is from the sixties, he can watch moves, even if it is just at the drive-through.

Poor guy. He's lucky that the setting is in 2006, there are still some old, bulky equipments that a Wizard might use.

... you know what we should make? Magic T.V.s We can even patented the design so that other wizards can finally watch a goddamn show that isn't black-and-white from the 1920s.

Molly Carpenter, entrepreneur and inventor extraordinaire!

Even more reason to make Advanced (magic) for our Kingdom. Magical equivalents that wizards can use if they work for us or for some stuff.

Also, Harry is lucky he can use a revolver, I think magic fucks up even very modern mechanical stuff like very modern guns but I may be misremembering.

@DragonParadox could we just use a regular demon and pump it full of motes or would we actually need something like a fire demon born from a fallingstar?

Molly is not sure, though what she does know is that any demon who can make use of essence in any capacity it exceptional. You might be better off finding one that is fit to purpose already or just make one.

A Semiautomatic gets in the range where Harry's magic messes with it, not normally but in a fight when his emotions run strong and he throws around magic. That of course being just when you don't want your gun to jam.

The secret to being a modern wizard who can still use technology with relatively little impediment is to use your magic to become rich. Any sufficiently motivated DF wizard can become wealthy with minimum effort and the time afforded to them by their longer lifespans. Harry is just strange about his use of magic.

Money makes everything easier, from being able to hire minions to use technology for you all the way up to having a shielded movie theater-sized computer room added to your lair. Add lots of surge protectors, project the computer display onto the movie screen rather than using a monitor, use mechanical keyboards and mice, and keep the PC in a separate part of the lair, in a shielded lead box. And when that inevitably fails, you're rich, so you just have your tech support minion swap out the toasted components for new ones.

>Finance 0.

Well, although no economic major are we, we might gonna need to raise our Finance Ability then.

Also, @DragonParadox what's the Ability necessary for controlling an organization or undelings? In 2.5 you use Bureaucracy Ability for that, but ExWoD doesn't use Bureaucracy, so what's the alternative

We also have computers zero.

But I don't really care about either, so... I am of the opinion that we only need to kill things, lead well, and do magic well.

Killing protects us and ours, minions can do everything from finance, computers, etc just as Goldfish said.

Magic is because Ancient Sorcery has some busted if limited stuff thats good to have.

I wouldnt mind raising Dex and Int to 5 tbh.

Dex because dex. Int is good substitute with Exce for a lot of stuff we have 0 Ability in, good for occult and GSFN also uses Int as damage calc.

Honestly kinda forgot that we could make demons I really do want this castle though especially since it should be possible to make it fly but also we could link it to our house that way even if something attacks the house it doesn't work because the actual living space is the castle and the house is just a shell with a door we can just have it wander around Europe or fly it across oceans. Holy shit I only wanted it for the cool factor but this is actually fucking amazingly useful. How much effort do we need to put into the demon?
