The hidden text strongly implies that Neville is in serious danger which isn't surprising when you think about it he is going somewhere with monsters after all
I think people are taking this to lightly and just think he might just get in to fun and harmless trouble but remember what happened last time we picked a option that logically would be serious but we didn't treat it as such because we thought nothing seriously bad could happen at that time in the quest to harry lets not make that mistake again

Moreso because come on what's more important- "+50% to chance of good grades on a test from a malicious teacher, and a few hours of friendly interaction", or "reduce chance of friend dying by an amount that is probably more than 1%"? (it's not that I think the chance is 'about 1%' It's that 'about 1%' would be reason enough.)
Though from a gametheoretic/incentives/learning perspective we should make sure the outcomes for Neville if he turns out to have been an idiot just now at least as viscerally unpleasant as the dying that would've happened otherwise, End his 'being a spy' thing by reporting it to mcgonagle and then tell dumbledore about how badly it went and then stop speaking with him for a week and throw something else on the pile, maybe... of course I recognise that the odds of this suggestion on incentives actually coming up in the quest in a form resembling this are far lower than the odds of neville dying which makes its contents almost epiphenomal, but still, y'know, in the abstract.

This is a pretty good arguement, and setting such things aside, is something I'd enjoy reading more then the potion studying.

What combat useful knowledge do we have that Neville does not for evading monsters? Would we just be throwing more thaums of type X(Flipendo) at an adversary that's immune to thaum type X(Flipendo)?

Edit: The Patronus just occurred to me.
Edit2: Use it Like a Flashbang.

To be honest I find it kind of sad that a vote can change because of a hidden sentence. I mean I get that we are Hufflepuffs and all.... But are we really going to abandon a meeting with our friends like that just for a single friend? Just because he is a Hufflepuff??? Even when he told us to GO to that meeting? This is the start of the year, we are not even on Halloween when things tend to go to shit. Plus he will be on Snape's territory and he isn't shy bumbling Neville from Canon. He will be fine... Stop jumping at shadows and/or changing votes because of that. If you want to commit to a vote do it and follow through it... Don't change it at the expense of our other friends.

I mean... really people?

Like a flashbang? use it like an attack. Harry blew a hole in the wall with... well, I assume it was the patronus anyway... immediately after getting his wand and our opponent probably won't be immune to patronus-bombs owing to its niche nature.

he's not the shy bumbling neville from canon but the dungeons are more Dangerous than in canon, and as people have pointed out, the last time something with dangerous facets was assumed to be fine because of the stage of the quest, Death.
He might be fine. I'll even for arguments sake grant claims like 'the likelihood of him dying is 10% or so', though my personal estimate of my own impressions is something closer to 40. But even a 1% likelihood of death trumps one studying session. Unless you're seriously claiming that the likelihood that Neville would run into lethal trouble- after it has been pointed out that he's too cocky, that his preparations are not necessarily sufficient, that there's no reason for him to even go looking where he's going to look, and that geist expects* him to next be seen dead inside an arcomantula- is lower than 1%?

*probably not as his main expectation and probably sarcastically, but his-opinion-of-the-choice is poor enough that he would sarcastically state this expectation.

Dumbledore is mentally unstable? Doubt.

Dumbledore said:
"My own brother, Aberforth, was prosecuted for practicing inappropriate charms on a goat. It was all over the papers, but did Aberforth hide? No, he did not! He held his head high and went about his business as usual! Of course, I'm not entirely sure he can read, so that may not have been bravery..."

"'I have gone temporarily deaf and haven't any idea what you said, Harry,' said Dumbledore, twiddling his thumbs and staring at the ceiling."

'Do you know, Harry, I think she might have been,' he said thoughtfully. 'Who'd have thought it? That brings her total of real predictions up to two. I should offer her a pay raise."

"Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment!"
