Are we gonna be meeting any Jews? The republican army did a lot to integrate the Jews into France, hell, the first Jewish officer in France was from this era, a man named Anselme Nordon.

-[]Chamans will be Reassigned under your Direct command, and the Reserves with them: You will take direct command of his forces.
-[]Keep them Here: As much as you hate to say it, Louis is safest here, in the Army.
-[]Time for a talk: You will split your army in 2. You will take Kleber, his corps, and the Reserve with you back to France, you need to have a nice long day chatting with The new First Consul, and make sure he is in the clear about how things are. Davout is going to lead the trip to Rome to have a talk with the Pope, he will take Dumas as reinforcement as a precaution. They have explicit orders of doing so in the most peaceful way possible, try to not take lives in the sacred city, and reign the anger when they depose the pope and reverse the ex-communication, afterward they will reunite with the rest of the army be it in the Rhine, be it in Paris.

Can we rearrange our officer staff? I want to put Berthy as the Chief of Staff

My only caveat with this is that we may need more than one corp (+reserve) to go have our chat with Rob. Does Davout need all the rest to deal with the papal troops? And I would keep Louis with us, not send him to Rome. Charlotte, OTOH, may go to Rome to represent her Brother.....

The thing is Louis and Charlotte want/need to stick together after what just happened this chapter. Honestly I don't blame them and even encourage them to stick together.

I'd vote for Rome.

Of course, we give them Orders to NOT sack the City, if they can. Just..."convince" the Pope that excommunicating an entire Army over such a trivial Matter while in reach of said Army is a dumb thing to do.
One problem though . . . This situation needs to be handled delicately. If people perceive this as you are threatening the pope to revoke you and your army's ex-communication, then this could get quite ugly. So we will want to be careful with this one, especially since we don't really know the reasons behind the excommunication (unless I'm missing something.) I mean, this has been a great update for raising the tension and makes it obvious that something has gone WRONG. VERY VERY WRONG.

WE NEED RETRIBUTION! But we need to be careful, lest we are a bull in a china shop. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Cold, Calculated, Careful Revenge. There is a reason they don't say Revenge is a dish best served hot.

The reserves are way bigger than the individual corps and act like another corps (like 10k+ more people than the other corps) and the siblings are a set pair, it has been stated before that where one goes the other follows, it's sending them to Rome away from Robesphiere where they can make the Pope shit himself or with us and not doing those things.

The thing that should be known about this excommunication is that it was entirely political in nature.

as in the Pope hates you and everything you stand for, along with us upsetting the entire power balance in Italy, that was decidedly in the popes favor before we came in like a wrecking ball from the North and south and broke any semblance of the Popes potential power in Italy by making French Puppet states.

Hopefully this will be time for Louis and Charlotte to shine in this revolution.

Yeah I agree with sending Louis and Charlotte with the army to Rome. Once the Pope sees Louis with the army he's gonna shit bricks. The Pope might try to only undo Louis and Charlotte but they won't just accept that. Its either undo it to everyone or stick with the decision and be taken down. So a chance to shine for Louis and Charlotte with some PR for them.

Just to be clear. AIUI, Louis is excommunicated (like a lot of his ancestors from Phillipe I in the Xth century to Henry IV) as he is formally part of the army but Charlotte is not, as she is not. Correct?

If words gets around, Louis' excommunication will make things interesting in Vendee. For years, the clergy refusing the republic has preached Crusade to save the Martyr Child, comparing him to Jesus ('Dieu souffre dans son fils tres chretien, le Roi de France, qui est enfant comme l'enfant Jesus et qui est en prison dans la tour du Temple').

OTOH, Louis may well take that being excommunicated will ensure he is never crowned (not Mass in Reims Cathedral possible, even if AFAIK no Capetian dynastic law prevented a non-catholic from being King) and that he wants to keep it that way......

So maybe the only way for the pope to reverse the excommunication for Louis would be to reverse it for the whole army (as in, that may be the only way Louis will accept it).

And the Pope WILL want to reverse this ASAP, because if not, he will be seen as taking the power to decide who will be King of France rather than follow the normal succession law. This will NOT be accepted by ANY catholic power in Europe.

Is it possible that our discussion with Robespierre was rapid enough that we always had a chance of accepting the Tsar's offer?
