The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] Faster is better. We want to infuse immediately.

Too many other things to do. BT 62 is already an amazing effort from KZ and it is sufficient for doing what the Jewel was sent to do.

Option One: You decide that your crafting work is good enough and you want to get on with actually infusing it. The benefit of this option is self-evident. You get your charm done much faster and can actually use it before long.
Option Two: You decide to double down on your crafting, and you'll keep working until your Craft (Jewelry) successes total to be at least double the build target for Fractal. As a reminder, the build target for Fractal is 62. Right now, you have 66 successes. So you would need 58 more. The benefits of this path is that Fractal would be better made and would function better when you do infuse it.
For those who are curious, it would take four actions to complete the infusion as the charm currently is.

For doubling down, each build action averages out at 12 successes. Therefore, five build actions are needed to reach 58 on average, and then we'd need five infuse actions on average to finish it out. 18.67 per infuse action, for reference.

This is a difference of six actions between each approach.

Now, let me advocate for doubling down. I won't talk about the long-term benefits as much, here, because the difference between a BT62 Charm and a BT93 Charm is plainly seen.

Instead, I'll talk about what this charm means. This Charm uses A Love Transfixed, the crowning jewel of an ancient civilization. But, perhaps more importantly, this Charm uses something our father would have used in his ascension to Warlord, something to smooth his breakthrough and reduce the chances that he will lose his life in the attempt. Kong Shuren loves Kong Zhi, however, so he gave it to his son instead.

Now, let me talk about what doubling down means, in story. Doubling down is when Zhi goes over a charm, looking for imperfections, such as edges that could be smoothed, areas that could be packed with more runes, and so on in order to make the Charm even better than it was. That's the source of the 50% increase in BT.

That's why, personally, I'd want Zhi to double down on this charm. I know Shuren wouldn't care if we didn't double down, because that's not why he sent over the material in the first place. However, I think that Zhi is the sort to care enough about the meaning of what Shuren sent him to go the extra yard, even though he doesn't really have to and he could get the Charm out sooner if he didn't. Because well, love is irrational like that. Or at least, that's my feeling on the matter.

Hence,

[X] The higher the build target, the better. We want to double down.

Will it, though? The new charm is a tool to change ourselves, the kind of thing that we'll need to invest even more actions in to get the most benefit out of. It's not a combat charm like the Box.
It's a transformation in a kung fu sorcery game. Yeah, it seems quite likely to increase our combat power. I don't really understand the idea that it wouldn't tbh.

Exactly. Remember, Shuren sent it to us *for a purpose*. That purpose was to fix us, not make the most powerful charm possible.

If this were Week 2 after the Deeps? Different story. But as Wugui said, we're still bleeding. Let's actually fix ourselves.

Lets just finally finally check something off our massive and constantly growing "To Do" list - we don't need BIGGAH NUMBAHS here, just get it done.

I think we can deal with the deer without the Fractal View, as long as we plan correctly and prepare appropriately. This way Zhi doesn't need to take time to re-adjust to his new body. I wouldn't suggest tripling down or something. A double down will make the Fractal View much more viable long term while not taking too long.

For what it's worth, confirmation from Discord is that transforming into the new form will not take an action. Finishing it and fighting the Deer next turn is very possible and is the plan I've been pushing for weeks.

The whole reason Vesvius made us vote on A Fractal View was we were dragging our feet. We have proceeded to learn from that lesson by... dragging our feet almost harder. We have spent, on average, one action a week on crafting it since the Deeps. We will, at this rate, finish AFV in about three months in game time. I really hope Fa likes waiting on her charm! And that we don't want to craft anything else. And that we're okay with pushing off Wonder hunting, socials, etc. Six actions is a lot of screentime.

We're also, for those stressing about the Deerfight, giving up the opportunity to *make the most powerful charm we've ever built* before it. I really don't undeerstand the resistance here.

The sooner we finish with AFV, the sooner the next thing will come along. I don't believe this is the last cool mat we'll see. However, the more time we spend tinkering with it, the slower the next cool thing will come.

Seriously, for those voting for DD, it seems like there's no willingness at all to devote the time to it.

Frankly next turn I'm pushing for 4-5 actions on it (or whatever the math cabal suggests for the DD on it) and then putting everything but one on infusing, the last one being on StM grinding as per usual. WE committed to it, so now we must COMMIT, which means i will propose and accept any plan where we go ham on it in the usual manic Kong Zhi style. Nothing less is really worth it imo.

THIS time it wont' take an action. It will take an action to transform into subsequent forms, or to return to your original form.

So Hi everyone. I was the person who created the original concept of Fractal View and I vote that we should get this charm done now.

[X] Faster is better. We want to infuse immediately

Reasoning
1) This charm was created for a purpose, to remove our malus. To repair Zhi from a traumatic experience and get him back on a positive path. The mat was given for that purpose and that alone.
2) This is already a masterwork charm for our level, it's BT is higher than anything we have done.
3) it's going to be an additional 6 actions (averaged) to DD, with the way votes have been going it's very unlikely we are going to increase the number of craft actions. It's going to take a long long time at this current rate and the world ain't slowing down. In fact I bet once we finish the deer we are going to have more demands on our time.
4) we have other stuff to do!! Explore, intergrate techs, develop Chui into a cool Kukuni powered warhammer. Plus waiting craft commissions Fa's axe, Mo has been making comments she wants something, plus more cool charms to help our abilities, maybe friendship bracelets for Nokai. We can't do any of that if we are still stuck on this.

Perfect is the enemy of good. We are forgoing all benefits of completing the charm for some greater efficiency.

Lets get those benefits! Finish it and move on to other fun amazing stuff!

I admire your enthusiasm, Curious, but because 3 actions are locked to Siani every week, that isn't viable.

Now, finishing off DD Fractal in two weeks? Super viable. 5 Build this week to get the build part done, then 5 Infuse the next week to finish off the rest would do the trick.

We could pull 4 Infuse if we recharged the Rainbow Eyes with 1 action and a talent, by the way, and then we'd have the Rainbow Eyes available for use in Shatter the Mirror, which is pretty sweet because we'd be able to do a 1 action drain of the whole Second for advancement of that technique.

[X] The higher the build target, the better. We want to double down.

For those following along, it comes as no surprise that I'm interested in DD.

ReaderOfFate has succinctly gone over the thematic/narrative reasons why DD is a compelling, and really only justifiable in-character choice for KZ.

Some of my other thoughts on AFV relate to how to specifically get the most out of using the charm. The majority of the text describing both the limbs and how AFV will solve the problem revolves around taking the anam in the limbs (currently Taioyue's Blood anam) and dissipating it throughout KZ's body to strengthen it & reshape/unwind the dino-limbs & eye. I think channeling KZ's primary anam types (Time/Steel/Smoke) into the limbs, and then dissipating that anam into KZ's body in the initial AFV use sounds like it could be an enormous power upgrade.

I am fully aware of Siani actions taking a good third of time up. However what i was advocating for, if i was unclear, was us focusing it down in a short of a time frame as possible, meaning it taking 5 of our remaining 6 actions until such time as it is actually done properly. Succinctly put we decided to go for it, so now we need to focus it down. The only things that should split our attention is prior commitment to Mo, grinding up techs for integration ala StM, or if something achieves "On fire" level bad with our friends or allies. Anything else will need to be ignored until such time as the charm is done and deer is dead.

6 action difference is just too much. I very much would have liked for KZ to create a charm that would blow anything else in the eighth circle out of the water, but there's just not the time to spare. We're gonna have other crafting obligations even after we finish AFV, so unless we wanna become a crafting hermit for the next month, only coming out for the most dire obligations (which I personally would not), we just need to get it done and get some stitches.
