1) if we are not leaving now (I believe we must prepare and prevaricate as long as possible), do we need to chose the naval strategy now? Things might change in the time before we leave. And the action to get better info on the british fleet might influence our choice.
In a way yes. The Effectiveness of Talleyrand and Robs actions there are entirely based on France's Military reputation out in the field, and if the government is still afloat, or collapsing in a crisis.
The more stable things are in France, THe more French victories that occur... the more likely Sardinia deprives a base for the Royal Navy.

Wouldn't it be better to include the reasons for changing our orders if you're doing that slot? it doe say the better the argument the easier the DC will be right?

What's the disposition of Italy at this time vis as vis France?
Regarding A Steady Foundation justification, I'm curious if you could make an argument that opting for route C it might appear that we intend to make a move at breaking through Gibraltar, with us wiping out British friendly ports that would be at the rear of a supply chain to break out.
Mind I'm curious if we could 'leak' orders to that end and get Britain to reinforce the wrong place.
The fact going for Egypt seems foolish, might make the subterfuge make sense too.
I'm borrowing the Napoleon campaign for obvious reasons, but most battles have not occurred, and new battles take their place.
Minor ones that involved Messena, Lannes' and Brian himself, but they were, in comparison, small, with only ten thousand men fighting one another.
And with brian being chief of staff... most of the time, he is making sure the Army doesn't loot cities for everything they areworth. After all, they are trying to advance further towards Vienna.
However, I shall explain:
Napoleon and Brian's Italian campaign began in March of 1794, against the kingdom of Sardinia, and the Austrian Allies within Northern Italy (Venice has declared neutrality.)
Near The Southern Alps in Sardinia Piedmont (Near Turin), at the Bend in the Po river, The Austrian and French forces clashed in a two-day battle, where Napoleon brilliantly used Lannes' Cavalry to flank and destroy two divisions of Austrian Light Hussars, and captured 35 guns.
Brian, having commanded the Artillery, used very precise and accurate fire to disorient the enemy forces and even inflicted losses amongst the officer's corps, forcing a very panicked fighting retreat.
However, since the Austrian force that was there was the only one in Northern Italy, and any reinforcements were being reorginzed into new armies after the disasters in the Netherlands and Turin... Napoleon had free reign to loot to his hearts content, recoup his coffers, and bring himself much wealth and power in Italy.
The Italian republics, fearful of Napoleon who just screwed the Austrian armies, basically surrendered outright, and dealt with the French being some... ungrateful guests.
So Brian set up friendly governments, negotiates, and controls Napoleon's more... greedy impulses, while Napoleon basically stands there menacingly and nods, getting the Italians to agree.
It's not the best description of the events prior to...
The Life of Brian... But it's a small thing that will be expanded on.
[x]Route B (Red): Serre's Plan to run the Gauntlet between Sardinia and Corsica, for the most disruptive for the Royal Navy. He plans to start false flag attacks, and raid all over Sardinia, firing cannon and generally making a mess with his marines… However, this is all planned to draw the British to Sardinia, allowing you to land on the Island of Sicily, giving you free reign to run wild on the island.
So posing as RN to raid and discredit? Do we want the distraction so close to the target?
Route (Green) Distraction - why pull Rob's beard on this?

Unrelated, but I just had a dream where Magoose made an Attempting to Fulfill the Plan Quest. I have no idea why, that type of quest is not what he would write.

I think it was in a fantasy-ish universe, though the descriptions of the choice of characters made them seem rather heroic compared to the near sociopathic attitudes in Blackstar's quest.

Yeah that sounds like something I would do... then abandon ten turns in out of boredom, and then later reboot because I have a better idea how to do things.
