For basically his entire life, LQ has been helicopter parenting Zhengui. If we don't give him a chance to learn how to work through his own problems, he's never going to really learn how. And giving Zhengui chances to learn means giving him chances to fail too, and then helping him fix his inevitable mistakes. At some point we're going to have to trust Zhengui, and I'd rather we start that now, in a relatively safe environment with his number 1 fan (Alingge) keeping an eye on him, then be forced into it in a higher stakes situation later.

Even if Zhengu screws this up, he'll live and learn from it. And if he manages to work this out on his own, which is absolutely a possible outcome, even better.

My thoughts about this situation exactly.

Ling Qi is known to her friends as someone who ruthlessly exploits her gained advantages and tries to get everything she can get out of them. I see no reason let up now of all times. Let´s not fix what isn´t broken!
Also, Ling Qi is a known Co-Organiser of this event and would probably like to make headway into the general ES nobility in this event. I would argue that meeting Alingge in a more private setting and discuss spiritbeast cultivation there would earn us more friendship and information than deliberately asking her now.

Tough vote, I changed my mind multiple times but I think this option is better overall. Ignoring the people we just defeated seems like a mistake, regardless of whether we have MSS or not. Zhengui will be a primary focus of this arc, so we'll likely have a chance to talk with Alingge about Zhengui later. Even if we don't, we'll likely have a vote that achieves similar purposes in terms of helping Zhengui. Zhengui's socialization has also generally been limited to people and spirits close to Ling Qi so far, so I'm interested in seeing how he handles himself here.

Uh what? The only time Zhengui was socializing on his own without Ling Qi there was toddling after Cui since he was born until he got to yellow or around the tournament arc when he went up the mountain to visit Hanyi. Every other time Ling Qi was there and he wasn't socialized much.
In the previous thread, there were 3-ish Zhengui+friend/rival social votes that became available. We didn't vote for a single one of them. The argument that Ling Qi has hovered over Zhengui is incompatible with the reality of how she has been played. That was my point. Ling Qi has been hands-off with Zhengui as it relates to his socialization. That's the opposite of helicopter parenting.

She's also not really strongly engaged with his cultivation or themes, outside of a few one-off training sessions involving other people. She's mostly left him to manage his own affairs and remained largely ignorant of the context he operates from. This is true for his socialization and his cultivation. Again, not compatible with a "helicopter parent" label.

It's perfectly valid to think giving Zhengui space at this event will be more beneficial for him, but it's not valid to argue it on the basis of a history of smothering him which simply doesn't exist.

As his bonded partner, it's normally up to us to introduce him to any social groups. Leaving him to fend for himself also sends a message to the traditionalists about how highly (or not) we regard him.

I don't really like Wang Chao, he isn't particularly interesting compared to our friends who I'd rather we spend time with, but that's just the nature of our job and we gotta keep on trucking while on the clock regardless.

We really didn't succeed in showing care. They are scrubs who are scared of a little full contact sport, they'll more likely than not be demoralized because we kicked their asses instead of properly grateful for our help. For us to actually succeed we'll need to talk a little, send out some compliments that at least sound kind-of sincere, and maybe show that we remember their names a time or two.
I think there is a significant difference between showing care as a senior peer and showing care as a friend, here. Wang Chao is the one trying to directly win them over for his own faction, and showing care as a friend to them could be something some people here wants... but when I talk about showing care, I meant as a senior noble of Emerald Sea who shows he cares about them and their abilities, but doesn't necessarily try to win them over as personal friends.

The whole 'stern commander' thing works, too.

Ling Qi's currently not capable to play with helping Wang Chao considering she doesn't have the necessary social art, and she has already shown herself to care for the nobility during this week.
Has that hurt him? Honestly he seemed to have picked up a fair number of friends while knowing that we are there to protect him if something bad happens. And there's nothing to stop him from spending time with us if he feels he wants our support.

Indeed that's basically what he says here: that we are powerful and that including him here is just humoring him. We have his confidence but he isn't sure of himself. Having a bunch of other people talk about how good he is will help put Ling Qi's earlier comments to him in a new context.
It has significantly hurt him, considering a huge portion of Zhengui's character is now about proving himself worthy of Ling Qi's attention, due to Ling Qi always choosing to ignore him.

Ling Qi doesnt need a shiny new social art for this. Heck, I'd even argue against needing a social art at all, mainly due to Sixiang's existence.

That's not true though. We constantly voted for Zhengui training last year and we often vote for his social actions, with the big awkward factor there being how Xuan Shi was getting smooshed into him. LQ spends plenty of time with him.

Our problems are related to combat and teamwork. The problem was, in both the bandit arc and nomad attack arc, her ditching him for tactical reasons related to our build increasingly becoming high mobility and lower support. And even then if you look more broadly in the bandit arc and the scouting arc we still work with him often. And we're working on being better about teamwork now.

Like, I wouldn't expect talking to Alingge to fix Zhengui's behavioural issues rn anyway. I feel like he's mostly in a bleh mood because of how things went down, and really time is the big thing needed there.

I'm not super happy about this vote, because we're here to deal with Wang Chao. But we have consistently voted against helping ZhenGui.

It's unsurprising but I can't help but think that he gets overlooked because he doesn't cause us problems. Very, "the oldest child gets ignored because all the younger siblings need more attention which leaves them without the care they also need, but they won't show that because they've been shown that their needs have to come second to the other siblings.".

I expect this vote will lose, and I think that's okay. But we really will need to start making time for Zhengui and Zhengui only.

A big problem I have with your argument here is the use of so much absolute language. I don't think such language is helpful when discussing the complicated and nuanced relationship Zhengui and Ling Qi have.

One of the issues I things that I think is hurting Zhengui is how much he wants to protect Ling Qi. What he may not fully understand is how much Ling Qi wants to protect him. This means that when he choose to sacrifice that dream to the fungus we got hurt as well because we didn't want to see him hurt. I think he understood that we got hurt from his action of sacrifice and that hurts him because the entire point of his action was to protect us.

This is how I feel as well. I definitely do not feel we have helicoptered/smothered Zhengui.

If we're definitely going to be sparring with Wang Chao tomorrow, I am less fussed about cornering him right now.

Were the co organizer and the whole point of this is to get close to Wang. That Zhengui is getting benefits out of it is a nice bonus but that - a bonus.
