Okay, just going to say this right now. For the next three turns, it will be in a few month intervals, all the way to the Kyuubi incident.

"Kakashi?" Your mother was surprised that he appeared out of nowhere.

Why is our mother acting so familiar with Kakashi? There doesn't seem to be any reason she would refer to him by given name without an honorific. I'd expect her to use his family name.

Lunch was rather… dull… save for you wondering how Kakashi ate with his mask on… You asked but he deflected it every time, and some strange event caused you to look away before you saw his face. From a bird chirping to your mother slapping your hand, and your father sneezing.

Lol, that was one of the best episodes in the original series and even though it was some of the most blatant filler ever it was a great laugh. My friends and I were trying to decide what random episode of Naruto to watch one time, so we rolled dice and got that episode.

It was fate to watch the greatest filler episode for something to fill in time

Your father's eyes twitched, and you felt murderous rage emanating from your mother. "You want to take our son as an apprentice. Who do you think you are, Orochimaru!" Your mother stated.

Lol, our mom is a joke. Makes sense why she never could get past genin even as a clan ninja if that's her first reaction.

Her means of offense isn't very clear here either. There isn't enough distinction to tell if she's offended that Kakashi thinks he's good enough to warrant getting an apprentice, if us being an apprentice is offensive, or if it's something else entirely.

Only once or twice, each trip lasting less than a month if even a week (ninja move VERY fast). That's hardly a downside

Well, we're a baby ninja that's not even at genin level. We aren't very fast yet. Kakashi could probably literally carry us around like a sack of potatoes and still make great time though.

as i remember the only ones to have been stated to take apprentices are the sannin. And at this point in time, only Orochimaru has (with Anko). Everyone else, from the Hokage(s) to every jounin teacher (yes, that includes Gai) only had students.
Iirc Kurenai almost had one, but the whole thing fell through before it could be officialized.

To be fair, with the Hokage as his sensei, he can probably be allowed to get away with something like that.

And while Jiraiya didn't start with just an apprentice, it ended up that way after something* happened to the scrubs that were Minato's genin teammates

*Canon never says I believe, but I personally assume they died

Well for a lack of a better word. D-Ranks.

And mom is still a little distrustful of... most ninja after she retired. Orochimaru happened if your wondering.

D-Ranks are basically just chores. VERY WELL PAYING chores, but chores all the same. When you are a kid wanting to be awesome, you don't want to do chores.

[X]Yes: You will become Kakashi's Apprentice.
I was tempted to vote no just to deviate from the very clear consensus, but I like this option too much :p

Has Orochimaru betrayed the leaf village already? I always believed he was loyal until after Minato died.

Granted, Naruto's timeline is so fucked that it's hard to tell when anything is supposed to happen, especially since you're using a different dating method than the one I use for this time period

Last I checked, he left right after Minato died.

So how did "Orochimaru happen" making our mom not trust ninja? Was it specific to this quest or are you referring to a canonical event that our mom is somehow connected to?
Well in canon, Orochimaru experimented (unethical experimentation might I add) on prisoners during the war. Experimentation that would later help him create Yamato, who could use the Mokuton.

Add into the fact that he worked for motherfucking Danzo... His actions are pretty grotesque.

We do not know how many people were killed during those experiments... but we know that there were a lot of deaths by the time it was shut down by Kakashi and his ANBU squad and Orochimaru fled the village.

... Im personally not sure it's accurate to say he betrayed the village. He DID do it on Danzos orders after all, and when caught he didn't really have any choice other than flee. He's sketchy as heck and immoral at best, but he never really did anything anti konoha.

except invade the village, aid and abed known enemies of the village and kinda kidnapped citizens for experimentation.

Orders or no orders... He's still guilty of some pretty serious crimes
