Blind Contact
Munstrum Ridcully sat in meditation alongside Areatha as he used her memories and connection to locate the Ancient One, the greatest warrior they had access too, so that he could guide him to their mutual foe and strike a true blow against this incursion just as it was beginning.
Perhaps it was arrogant of him to expect the simple task of locating a single being but, to his own stunned surprise it was proving to be a far harder task to accomplish than he anticipated, just as Areatha warned him it would be. Even his sight unhindered by all things save the wards and trickery of Gods, and able to pierce even those wards with time and effort, found himself befuddled and confused as he tried to locate him, as if his attempts were hidden by a shroud of age and time.
But he had his orders, he needed to catch his attention, and so he pushed onwards clutching at the memories Areatha provided him to focus his attempts until at last he thought he found the Ancient One, moving swiftly towards where he could detect the presence of the Archangyl, but at a slightly odd angle. His mental projection yelled and shouted, trying desperately to alert the Saurus as suddenly the resistance that prevented him from contacting the being diminished suddenly.
His mental probe metaphorically stumbled forwards as an impermeable barrier was suddenly removed only to be re-established the instant he was within, as his mind was examined by a creature so ancient he found himself at a loss for words.
He could not even begin to fathom where the mind of the Ancient One began and where it ended, so many millions of years of memories piling upon one another that it created a perfect defence against intrusion. He doubted any would be able to sort through the memories, held here in such perfect clarity.
In fact, he suspected they would be crushed by them, even if the master of this domain deigned not to assault him directly.
"Blind One. Your distraction was unappreciated. Tell me what you wish."
The voice of the Ancient One was short and curt, but then again the situation they were in required it.
"The Angyl you approach is a decoy. The true First is this one."
He projected the current location of the Archangyl and its body guard as well as all he could divine of its abilities and the strengths of its protectors, while the Ancient One immediately altered his course, without even a moments hesitation.
"As suspected. The scent was wrong. Continue your aid Blind One, let us bring down this foe."
With relish he focused upon the futures that the Ancient One would soon encounter, while divining the forces currently arrayed against him, detailing their weakness to the duellist without peer as its speed increased, carving a bloody path through the Angyls towards the unaware First, convinced its plan would unfold exactly as it had designed.
As he watched the Ancient One at work, he surprised his surprise that the Ancient One deigned to listen him as he viewed the utter perfect of skill that the creature unleashed, often times not requiring his input to know exactly how best to reduce the Angyls to bloody pieces. But as he looked closer trying to establish a better understanding of the being, he was assisting he saw within it slightly to see that any pride or suspicion within the Elder being's soul having been worn away over millions of years of struggle. It knew of his skills and it had assessed his in a matter of moments and made the decision to trust that he would lead it correctly, as they fell into a professional and skilful partnership, as between them they avoided armies of Angyls, monsoons of Cherubim and flights of Archangyls, until at last the Ancient One leapt into the air.
His spear, more potent than any weapon Ridcully had seen in his life save the Black Crystal blade, flew through the air at the First Circle, who was completely unprepared for the sudden assault, the blade cutting through the armour of a trillion heretical souls at a key weak point he had divined as if it were but air, to grievously wound the being beneath.
As the Ancient One caught the returning weapon Ridcully prepared himself, reading his abilities to go to their fullest extent as the clash of gods began.
Oy Mates.
