There's no way we'll lose, these barbarians are so inferior and weak compared to our glorious superior civilization! This will be a glorious victory for us! We will kill even more of them and then they'll love us forever more! It's for their own good!

Oh right.

I forgot that they have giant boars and wolves.

We've consistently failed. At this point, the hole is too deep to bridge. Trying to get them back means is a sunk cost fallacy, throwing good actions after bad.
I'm honestly kinda bummed because I thought this could genuinely work out, and was advocating for cautious and peaceful integration.
The Dice Gods can throw wrenches in any plan though, and we have to cut our losses when we can. :(

The only way to colonize the upriver plains is to make sure nobody is there.
Also I can tell this may end badly, and the odds are against us, but I feel like the RNG gods are on our side.

On the flipside, we don't have to spend any actions improving our relations with them anymore. We can just find new friends *sniffs* (and then watches as we inevitably piss them off too. Seriously, we suck when dealing with other polities).

...for a second there I honestly thought I was reading this wrong.

What the hell happened to tyranny and democracy and all that rot?

We conquered them, yes. Constantly failed, no.
We didn't take a diplo hero and didn't know about their customs.
We did the right thing this turn but they had a roll that gave them hero.
Basically we didn't fail multiple times, but once with helping them. This was a bad roll.

To me it's a more fundamental thing: A natural desire to be the Biggest Man on the Biggest Hill.
But here's the thing: That's a rat race, and even if you win, you're still a rat.
I don't WANT to be the King Rat. I want to stick with what makes us cool, and being the Biggest Man is not actually that!
I felt the same way about the Ymaryn, the farming and tree-focus was what was neat, not being the biggest culture on the map!

You're proposing attacking a fortified village defended by a martial hero with a society which doesn't have any siege tech. The enemy will slaughter our troops, and then they'll counterattack while our forces are in shambles.

You're making the mistake of assuming that military expansion is the best or only way to expand.

It's not. The amount of actions that we're going to spend to try and win this war, and then all the future actions we'll need to keep the rebellious vassal under our thumb (they won't suddenly like us because we murdered them again) is going to be significant. It'd be far better to spend those actions on home-grown development.
oh yee of little faith we have better troops and you say we dont have siege tech well heres a great chance to try and get it.

Expect that we will lose legitimacy and prestige.
Except that our Legitimacy Stat is straining on 4/3, above the normal norm. And we have 20 Prestige. Prestige is rather easy to get and is uncapped.
Why are people letting them be they are not gonna leave us alone they will only get stronger and come for our head in time why let that happen when we can kill it in its infancy before they are a threat to greenbay itself.
If they come for us, then sure. Defensive Wars is our speciality, let them come..... but don't assume that it is certain that they will.

Let transgressions past past. Under a much more favourable circumstances, we'd have a Diplo Hero to sort things out. But as it stands, let old wounds heal with time. Do not rise to the sabre-rattling. Once the Hero and the generation after his dies, we can began more serious overtures. Slowly trade with them, then make it so that they become allied polities with us. Remember, we play the long game.

It stings me, as an advocate of the Midlander Vassalage that this has to happen, but c'est la vie. Acknowledge that the Maradysh are their own people. That they have the right to forge their path. And again, in time, we can start a new chapter in our relationships, where old bloodfeuds are but distant and faded etches on the buried stone tablets.

I recommend reading that post in a sarcastic voice.

To be fair, it was working somewhat when the dice decided to give the Maradysh a Martial Hero just as yours died.

Expect that this region isnt hike world and we leave ourselves open to potential enemies.

tbh this seems like a situation very similar to the Civil War vote.
We had a bad roll, and had to choose between a war against a martial hero and a hit to us.

In this case, instead of accepting a switch to monarchy, we should accept that vassals of conquest are bad mojo.

I argued that vassals were our responsibility.....but....a war with our vassal means it won't be good for anyone and our investment sunk even deeper into red.

It's not, if we chosed civil war vote we would just ended with new leader, but our civ would remain whole. This is a secession.
