"Uh… certainly." Despite their confusion, the stranger complies, raising another door in place of the one they arrived through. "There is something I wanted you to do, anyway. Will it just be one, or both of you leaving?"
You glance over at Midori, and she shrugs. "I could bluff my way out of trouble, if need be, but… well, I'd rather not have to. Let's go."
The stranger opens the door, and you step through to find yourselves a mere two blocks away from the school; a safe distance to avoid the commotion, but still relatively close. You hear someone banging on the stairwell access door, but the stranger shuts their own door immediately after, and the three of you are left in the middle of an empty street.
"So what's this favor you wanted me to do?" you ask.
"The man you fought last night has awoken in the hospital. I wanted you to go talk to him and find out if he remembers anything about what happened, or what might have been the cause for his transformation," the stranger explains. "A fairly mundane task, but a potentially useful one. I know when the rings are used to purify someone or something, you get bits of memory, but they tend not to be very enlightening, so it's often good to follow up."
Exchanging glances with your partner again, a thought occurs to you. "So you needed both of us, right? I wouldn't really be able to talk to him on my own as a ghost, and being transformed like this wouldn't exactly escape people's notice." You can feel the stranger staring at you, and belatedly add "Don't worry, she knows already."
"I'm right here, you know," Midori says, but without any bite.
The stranger pauses, thinking, before giving a curt nod. "I wouldn't share this information around so freely with the others. It's been difficult enough to convince them to join without adding that one of the members is deceased. But, I suppose the damage is done here... Anyway, back to the matter at hand; the idea was that you would be able to sneak in as a ghost, and then transform to talk only once you're in the room with him and there's nobody else around." You have to admit it sounds like a valid plan, but the idea still leaves you uneasy.
"Well, having me there to facilitate things could have its own advantages," Midori points out. "Yukimura-san would be able to remain as a ghost, and using visiting hours as an excuse, I could ask the questions for us both. That way, if a nurse barges in or something, there's nothing suspicious."
The stranger nods. "However, you still do have educational attendance requirements during these hours, correct? As does the third girl. The reason I called on Yukimura-san specifically was because she had no such obligations."
"Wait, third girl?" Midori asks.
"Ah, yes. Varma-san joined late last night, sometime after you two finished your fight. I considered her as an option too, but she is similarly occupied."
You mull the situation over, and a few different possibilities present themselves to you.
What do you do?
> Go alone (Midori can slip into the back of the crowd before they go back inside and hopefully avoid any major questioning, while you follow the strangers' plan of sneaking into the hospital to speak to the patient, albeit with risk of detection...)
> Go together (Bring Midori with. Communicating through her greatly reduces any chance of misunderstandings at the hospital, though her absence from school may raise some questions...)
> Go later (Have Midori go back and wait until school ends and go together, possibly with this third girl as well; and in the meantime, you can ask the stranger some questions. Visiting hours end soon after, so you may not have as much time to talk with the patient, though…)
