Star Wars: The Chosen One (An Anakin Skywalker Quest)

Killing Maul is well and good for immediate experience. But he provides some practical necessities in keeping him alive. If people truly want hin dead, we should do it later. There's no reason to rush unless we're expecting immediate rescue for Maul.

Arthellion, you are a trolling GM. Well done, sir.

Anyway, while there's a lot of tangible Crunch reward for killing Maul, there's a lot more less-tangible Fluff reward for letting him live, and then killing him. We need what he knows, and to determine if he's being truthful or not. We don't know who Sidious is and in character no one does. That's bad. We need to know what Maul knows. He can die after we've wrung every drop of information from his broken body.

Plus, I really truly do not want to give him what he wants or expects, which is for the pathetic little Jedi-ling to murder him in revenge, proving the superiority of the Sith way.

We should try to use our connection with Dooku to see where he is. I don't feel comfortable escorting Mal alone as a Padawan.

Also, we've got our first kills boys and girls well done. Anakin is really learning fast now things are getting pretty zesty 10/10 this one update was more action-packed than all of episode one.

Ok guys, we need to save Maul. He has so much information that we need. But it does not mean he needs all his limbs when we save him and interrogate him.

Episode One would have had more action...but yeah...you got stuck at the Temple as an Initiate.

Oof. Glad we saved that CP to save our bacon against the assassin droids. Still, we got a bunch of XP and a new DS force technique, so it's not too bad a trade.

Maul is... interesting. He's a Sith, so trusting him would be silly, but his characterization here is interesting -- he doesn't seem to be nearly as much of a berserker as Maul appears in the EU, so he may be working at cross-purposes against Sidious. The explosion corroborates this -- at the very least, whoever set off the bomb didn't mind if Maul were a casualty.

On the other hand, I hope everyone else noticed the too-convenient timing of the explosion. We had just asked Maul why he was telling us all this. Unless I miss my guess, the explosion was set off when it was to prevent that information from getting out. If only for sheer bloody pragmatism, we want to keep Maul alive until he can give us an answer.

Incidentally, @Arthellion?

[] To Destroy the Sith Completely (+75,000XP, +15 CP)
...
[]To Kill Darth Sidious (+500,000XP, +10 CP) New!
Is there any reason "destroy the Sith completely' gives less XP than killing one member of the Sith? Not sure why there's a difference? I assume 'destroy the Sith completely' doesn't just mean 'kill the current Baneite branch' but to (figuratively) salt the earth by destroying their support structure and their knowledge base, not to mention targeting any other non-Baneite branches around.

Related: will you accept any write-ins for intermediate ambitions? I'm thinking:

[] To Learn the Identity of Darth Sidious
[] To Learn the Purpose behind the Invasion of Naboo

But I'm sure there are others along the same lines that others can propose.

Finally: I'm pretty sure both Dooku and Padme were in the same room when the bomb went off. I know that Maul is right in front of us, but I'm wondering if we have any options for write-in. Perhaps:

[] Go get help -- call for medics and make sure they can get into the room

Or

[] Triage -- Maul is injured, he's trained in the Force and might survive on his own. Others are injured as well, and they might need our help more urgently

Thoughts?

[] [Grief] Sad, but I didn't know them that well.
[] [Maul] Attempted to save him. The Courts would decide his fate. Unlocked by Lawful
[] Was Maul telling the truth about your family?(+2,000, +1CP) New!
[] Ambition: Learn More about the Sith! (500XP)
This is my (potential) vote as well. After Maul bragging about killing our family, Anakin would naturally want to know if he was telling the truth or not.

As for the other options, our master has just finished telling us that we need more self-control.

[] To Learn the Identity of Darth Sidious (+10,000 XP)
The above ambition is approved.

All others are denied.
As for to destroy the sith. That's going to be upped.

Cool but also ouch.

Tempted to vote for the below:
[] [Grief] Sad, but I didn't know them that well.
[] [Maul] Attempted to save him. The Courts would decide his fate. Unlocked by Lawful
[] Was Maul telling the truth about your family?(+2,000, +1CP) New!

Angry will bring us closer to the Dark and it isn't necessarily accurate. Like, sad is probably the best way to say how we are, I feel. We want vengeance upon the people who killed people who are nice, but we might not necessarily feel angry about them dying in particular.

Saving people is good, imo, but equally importantly having him be sentenced by the law is a) just, and b) will provide more information for us to like... kill Bail Organa I guess lol. Maybe we should just kill him if we trust that Bail isn't Darth Sidious.

Obviously we should find out if our family is dead. Which might not be hard.

Learning more about the Sith seems of great immediate importance and is perhaps relatively easy to fulfill if we talk to Maul.

Completely agree, but also it gives us incentive to revisit the Sith holocron and actually learn both about controlling our emotions to use the dark side, not be used by it, but also to get more info about our 'enemies'.

Also the goals are low hanging fruit that will provide multiple benefits, so that's also good.

Worth noting that killing Maul fulfills the Avenge Obi-wan and Qui-Gon ambition...

30,000XP (x Dooku's 2.5) = 75,000 XP. and 5 CP.

Just sharing.
Would having Mail arrested and trie fillfull the ambition?

[] To Learn the Identity of Darth Sidious (+10,000 XP)
The above ambition is approved.

Ok guys, new plan.

Grief
[] [Grief] Sad, but I didn't know them that well.

Maul
[] [Maul] Attempted to save him. The Courts

Ambition
[] [Ambition] Was Maul telling the truth about your family?(+2,000, +1CP) New!
[] [Ambition] To Learn the Identity of Darth Sidious (+10,000 XP) New!

Thoughts?

[x] [Grief] Sad, but I didn't know them that well.
[x] [Maul] Save him. You have some questions for him. Questions he can't answer if he's dead.

I would rather we go for learning more about the Sith, it's simply a lower hanging fruit than finding out the identity of Darth Sidious. Like, Maul literally already said "So he can become the Chancellor blah blah blah" and yet this ambition continues to exist, which means there's going to be a whole interrogation thing et al involved before we can find out who sidious is.

The only easy route for it is that we/our master would need to be great at telepathy-based interrogation, and I find it not unlikely that Maul has too high of resistance.

tldr: let's wait on this maybe

The biggest question is WHY Maul did what he did.

The question also poses some interesting possibilities for the Anakin-droids fight and why it happened.

Wow, a really good update. 10/10 from me.

So just a couple things to think about. Darth Maul really sucked up to Palpatine big time. Even after he was defeated on Naboo. Maul also isn't a big talker, much more of a Brute type.

This is clearly a plot. A Sith plot.....there are levels within levels within a hidden fortress that is on a missing world. The most obvious trap is probably painting Organa as a Sith and lead to confusion among the Jedi. If we save Maul, he will probably testify to this and Palpatine would manipulate Organa to give the Jedi a false lead. Outcome is Palpatine becomes Supreme Choucellar.

If we do kill Maul, then there will be the doubt about who the Sith Lord is. Probably leading to either Anakin or Dooku investigating and falling under the sway of Palpatine. Probably turning the situation to Palpatine's advantage. Like providing his own personal security forces for the queen and Naboo as a result of this attack. Also more blame on the Jedi for not investigating the ship in the first place or locating Maul on planet.

Gods, the threads and counter plots Palpatine can work out of this is mind boggling. I want people to really think on the fact that saving Maul is most likely playing into Palpatine's hands since Maul surrendered. I am more in favor of Maul dying because the EXP and CP would be a nice boost. Also we can focus on our training afterwards and not deal with this headache. Let Maul be dead and leave. Remember that Palpatine controls the courts.
