@Lop now that we are entering more complex warfare, basically we see players buying different troops from different sources, more complex and expensive tank weaponry and even building up their first Warships i've been meaning to ask you how is battle generally decided?
Basically you said that we should build up a little and we did but does troop diversity, more expensive weaponry, quality and quantity make any difference in war or does it all come down to dice rolls, or if it's mixture of all of those things, then how does that work in terms of game mechanis ?
You and House Dorn this next turn will be a good example. I've mentioned Conflict Scale Theory before, but basically all armies should have units operating on the nano, operational, inter-orbital and inter-planetary scales when in battle. Or, to put it plainly, you should have nanites, infantry, mecha and ships, because lacking any of them will leave you seriously unsupported. Now nanites I don't include because they should come-standard issue with most infantry. But let's look at you and Dorn next turn.
Dorn is sending in troopers, hunter-killers, mercenaries and a hero. All infantry (and nanites)
You're sending in Zero-G Warframes (Gundam basically) Warbots, Combat Drones, Mercenaries, Psinioic Knights and Vanguards. That's a good number of infantry and elite infantry, supported Warframes. Or, to put it another way, you checked off the operational and inter-orbital boxes, so that's 2 out of the 3 necessary for the full application of Conflict Scale Theory. So your army is pretty well supported.
And on paper, is going to absolutely shred House Dorn's unsupported infantry. Ahh, but House Dorn rolled better, so what does that mean?
Basically House Dorn just saved themselves from being wiped out. And there's the hero roll to consider, though 11 is neither here nor there.
So when going into battle, ask yourself, do I have units representing operational (All types of infantry and armor, you should have 1 type of both), inter-orbital (Zero-G stuff and Void Gate) and inter-planetary (ships)
And if you do, or at least have most of it, do you outnumber the enemy?
So that's all fine and dandy, but how do actually units fare against each other? Can Special Forces fight Mobile Armor? Who wins when psionic knights go up against elite-specimen? Who wins when Vanguard fight Commandos?
Some of these you can gauge based on price. Others will be determined by a dice roll. There are some I desperately want to see, such as Sorcerers versus Psionic knights, or maybe a threeway battle between zero-g specimens, zero-g warframes, and shining beings.
But that's the process, I hope I didn't confuse you guys, and at least some of it made sense.
