"Well with grit like that, I look forward to seeing you Forun, but just to reward a good samaritan." Shepard said activating her omnitool and sending a message, sending a personal letter of recommendation to her PMC recruitment office. While she did not state to automatically recruit the volus, she did ask that he be given a fair chance like everyone else, if he made it then he deserved his spot in the PMC. If not, then oh well.

"There, I wish you luck Forun, and hope you can make it." She said before leaving the confused volus surrounded with new boxes of warhammer minis, whose omnitool just pinged reporting a new message according to her hearing. Shepard smiled as she headed home, today has been a interesting day.

The whole fleet Alliance fleet flew forth from the Mass Relay in groups, spread out across thousands of kilometers and minor calculations errors forced them to drift apart in transit resulting in a slightly dispersed fleet instead of a nice formation.

It was no matter as they would just reorient and regather as they traveled together to the war zone. The fleet doing their best to try to minimize their heat profiles as they slowly advanced towards the hidden Batarian forces at minimal speed to slow the rate of their heat buildup and delay their need to release said heat and thus alerting the enemy fleet to their presence.

However, it seems it was all for naught as the hidden fleet detected them far earlier than preferred and instantly got into battle readniess. Their ships coming to live and turning to face the incoming Alliance fleet with a signal for reinforcement being sent out towards the pirate moon of Tofan. Their cruisers and frigates immediately began unleashing volley after volley at the Alliance fleet with their rounds travelling faster than normally seen from ships of their size cause some of the Alliance ships to be unable adjust their course in time and dodge the incoming fire.

Thankfully, the fighters of the Paragon Securities company were on the ball as they had instantly deployed and managed to intercept all of the incoming fire with extremely precise missile fire to shatter the incoming ship rounds, causing their impact to be spread out across a much wider area rendering the attack only shield draining instead of shield or potentially ship destroying.

This however did not bode well for the upcoming engagement, thankfully the Batarian ships still adhered to conventional Mass Effect rules of combat as their volleys petered out as some ships began venting heat rendering them unable to continue to fire for the duration of the Alliance's approach.

Round 2
Alliance: 74 +10 = 84
ParSec: 40 +35 = 75
Batarians: 7 +10 = 17
???: 89
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
The Alliance fleet then opened fired with their own weapons in response sending forth volleys of fire not inferior to that of the Batarians own, especially the upgraded frigates which fired with the force of a cruiser, and the cruisers with a shot comparable to that of dreadnoughts. The pyndas were on standby hidden behind the dreadnoughts and cruisers, using their mass to and heat radiation to both visually and thermally hide themselves from the Batarian sensors. Meanwhile, ParSec deploying their drone complements ahead of them as they flooded out of their makeshift cargo transports which were basically cargo crates glued around the ships to be removed as needed. They advanced as one like a giant cloud of space locust blotting out the light of the distant starts behind them.

The Batarian Dreadnought sized carriers, a design stolen from the Alliance deployed its own fighter crafts no doubt attempting to copy the tactics recently shown by them to weaken the incoming rounds with one exception. Sensors indicated unknown vehicles among the fighters, vehicles that were soon identified as a profile match to the mech that had attack Landing previously.

The fighters peeled off to deal with the incoming mass effect rounds while the mechs charged towards the massive swarm of drones and smashed into them like a shark among a shoal of fish. Particles beams swept around them even as lasers blasted into the swarm, ignoring their shields, and more conventional mass effect shots flew into the densely packed drone swarm. Their unleashed missile payloads also dealt massive damage to the swarm with the swarm dealing only minimal damage in return as the mechs showed far greater mobility and evasion with any damaged being repaired by their armor or absorbed by their kinetic shields. The drone swarm was swiftly and shockingly being depleted at a far faster rate than expected, but it was worth it.

The Batarian fighters attempt to copy the Alliance failed and the rounds impacted the ships whose arrogance at being able to replicate their foe's tactic, thinking themselves able to do anything their more lesser enemy can do, failed to have them begin evasive maneuvers. The upgrades done by Paragon Industries showed their worth at that moment as the mass effect rounds slammed into their shielded hulls, severely draining them at best, and outright crushing through them into the hull itself at worst, and then the follow up rounds hit.

The Batarian fleet suffered severe casualties among its frigate contingent as their shields and hull were simply not strong enough to fully absorb the strengthen Alliance ship attacks. The Batarian fleet however while injured was not out yet, and sensors indicated that the main fleet at Torfan was already on its way, and will be here soon.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 3
Alliance: 56 + 10 = 66
ParSec: 54 + 35 = 89
Batarians: 71 + 15 = 86
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
The next round of fighting was a stalemate as things turned into a slugfest between the two fleets and their fighter complements. Both sides no longer just allowing rounds to come without initiating evasive maneuvers even at the cost of a firing solution being missed.

In the meantime Alliance fighters with drone support dog fighted with Batarian fighters and mechs. Pound for pound the fighters were far above their Batarian counterparts with their near infinite power to enhance everything, whereas the mechs reaped anything that came near them with their lasers and particle weapons which the drone swarms dutifully did as per their programming to spare the lives of their organic counterparts.

Ships meanwhile traded fire and dodged in return. The upgraded shields and engines allowed the Alliance frigates and cruisers to remain in the fight even as the occasional Batarian main gun rounds hit harder than previously recorded. Whatever upgrades they had made to their ships, it had given them a noticeable upgrade. If Paragon Industries had not created those upgrades to their frigates and cruisers this would most likely have been a massacre as their shields would have been ripped apart like paper as they ran rings around them.

A message was sent to the Council fleet telling them to reinforce the Alliance as the main Batarian fleet were coming, leaving the safety of their ground and orbital defenses. They responded back that they will be there soon.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 4
Alliance: 97 + 10 = 107
ParSec: 82 + 30 = 112
Batarians: 34 + 25 = 59
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Unfortunately, the main Batarian fleet arrived first.

Fortunately, the remaining ships of the previously hidden Batarian fleet were between them and the Alliance.

Even more fortunately, they the one in charge of the fleet idiotically began trying to turn towards their fleet towards their reinforcements, redlining their engines to pull out of the battle and link up with the larger fleet, most likely assuming the Alliance would focus on the larger threat instead of fleeing ships.

They thought wrong.

Without the Batarians disrupting them with cannon fire the Alliance ships now put into action one of their prepared plans and linked their systems to the Paragon Security ship network, and more specifically their drones. While more of them were destroyed than they would have liked, there were still more than enough for them to function in their secondary role. A VDA. A very dangerous array where each drone collected data, and sent it back to be processed by the advanced computer systems onboard the Paragon Security ships, even though that left them slow to react if they were attacked by the ships, though the point defense were still operational as they fought off the surrounding fighters and mechs. The ships then fed targeting and maneuvering data to the rest of the fleet with the ships automatically begin to enact the maneuvers.

Hundreds of ship engines maxed out as they accelerated as fast they would go. Their engines charging up their main guns even as the Gardian defense systems locked on to their targets and began letting loose volleys after volleys into the enemy fighters and mechs. The coordination of firepower from the Alliance ships, fighters, and drones all controlled by a single system showed their effectiveness as enemy units attempted to dodge only to be met with multiple shots converging on their new location and instantly destroying them. Not even the advanced mechs of the Batarians were immune to the combined fire power of several ships focused upon them as dozens of lasers and missiles bombarded their tough forms to the point not even their durability and self repair capabilities were sufficient to survive. Nearly all of the enemy fighters and mechs were wiped out by the net of pure destruction unleashed upon them with the cherry on top coming next.

The main guns of all the ships were fully charged and now with every enemy fighter unit gone, even more processing power was free to direct the next shots at the bigger prizes. The fleeing ships. Calculations of trajectories and probabilities were made by the millions and discarded just as fast with every new scrap of information sent back by the drones. The computer systems of the Paragon Security ships would soon redline and need to be shut down for emergency maintenance, but the reward was worth it.

With a single synchronized digital command the entire fleet unleashed their main guns and torpedo tubes at the fleeing enemy ships. The enemy ships attempted to evade the incoming fire to no avail as the systems had already predicted their direction of escape causing them to still be struck by multiple rounds. Enough rounds were allocated to as many ships as possible just to hit hard enough to knock out their engines causing a vast portion of their fleet, including half their dreadnought sized ships, to have their thruster capacity removed leaving them to drift in space.

Then the torpedoes arrived. With the angle of their escape most of their Gardian defense turrets had no angle of fire on the incoming heavy ordinance as they proceeded to ram unimpeded into the rear of the ships and detonate causing devastating damage as the eezo with the warp torpedoes activated causing immense shearing forces to literally tear the back of the ships to shreds, destroying their engines, thrusters, and leaving the entire back of the ship or even half the ship open to the void. The lucky Batarians would have been those who died instantly as the rest would suffocate or freeze to death on their now powerless metal coffins.

The only survivors of the formerly hidden fleet were 5 carrier dreadnoughts and 50 cruisers, all with some form of damage from earlier, as they made it with range of the main fleet who began firing to cover the survivors.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
It was this point the Council fleet arrived...and proceeded to get slammed as the long range fire of the Batarians upgraded ships obviously surprised the Turian captains as their ships were accurately hit over and over by the enemy fire.

Their military disciple and formations working against them as the enemy had no problems targeting them and the ships around them perfectly even spaced as they were, ships that refused to dodge without orders, orders delayed by surprise. The front line of frigates were swiftly smashed apart and left burning and drifting as hulks through the void even as the ships behind rushed forward to fill in the gaps in the battle line.

The Alliance faired little better as the amount of firepower heading their way was several times higher than the previous fight with only the intervention by the Paragon Security fighters and drones once again needing to intercept the incoming fire. However, the fact that their ship computers were mostly offline to cool and be serviced meant that the previous coordination was no longer there and that the fighters had used up most of their missiles with no chance to rearm meant their effectiveness against the far larger amount of incoming fire was less that optimal.

They still managed to intercept the shots aimed against the dreadnoughts and cruisers, but the ones on direct courses to the frigates slipped through the gaps with only the reaction of the individual captains determining whether or not their ship could evade or tank the incoming rounds.

Round 6
Alliance: 86 + 10 = 96
ParSec: 92 + 30 = 122
Council: 55 + 15 = 70
Batarians: 3 + 30 = 33

Fall Back to Orbital Defenses? = 21 Nope.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
It was at this point the Alliance deployed their ace in the hole, the 180 laser Pyndas laying in wait in the back this entire time. All of the pyndas accelerated rapidly 'above' the field of battle, followed by the drones behind them though at a much slower speed. The fighter complements meanwhile were still refueling and rearming back at their hangers.

The Batarians obviously saw the incoming threat and knowing of their lethality a large portion of their fleet immediately began trying to turn to target the incoming Paragon designed ships only to fail as their speed was far in excess to their ability to turn to get them into their firing arc. The Pyndas were making a great distraction as they had essentially pulled over a third of the enemy fleet out of proper firing position and had completely distracted them from the drones behind them. The Pyndas completely flanked the enemy fleet with the tracking ships now completely facing the complete other direction of the combined Alliance and Council fleet. Then the drones attacked.

The swarm of drones dived 'downward' into the middle of the fleet and spread out as the drones wrecked havoc among the enemy ships launching their missile payloads at all the shield emitters they passed by, the missiles far slower movement speed allowing them to bypass the ship's kinetic barriers. Starting from the center of their fleet countless small explosions could be seen as the drones expanded outward releasing their payloads. The ability of the enemy fleet to defend themselves would soon be neutralize even as their Gardian defense lasers tried their best to fill the void with lasers to take them down which while effective was not doing it fast enough.

The Alliance and Turian fleets then opened fire upon the chaotic Batarian fleet not their combined guns sending forth thousands of glowing blue balls of super accelerated metal rounds through the void of space and smashing into the enemy formation over and over again. Meanwhile, the pyndas made full use of their speed to constantly dart around the end of the battle space to force the enemy to keep focus on them and prevent them from contributing their main firepower to the rest of the battle even as they kept getting pelted by long range mass effect fire by the pyndas and missile fire from the diminishing drone swarm.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 7
Alliance: 79 + 10 = 89
ParSec: 78 + 30 = 108
Council: 28 + 15 = 43
Batarians: 79 + 25 = 104
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
It was at this moment something changed among the Batarian fleet as suddenly they began accelerating towards the Council fleet position en mass. Even the ships which were distracted by the Pyndas stopped and immediately did a hard turn and accelerate as well. Every ship began firing as fast as they could towards the Turians with the ships in front being used as sacrificial ships as they absorbed most of the firepower being sent their way allowing the rest of the fleet to close in.

The Pyndas, fighters, and drones were not just going to let this happen however as they made use of their superior speed to follow behind the enemy ships and began blowing out the engines of every ship they could reach to leave them dead in the water with all of the dreadnoughts and most of the cruisers disabled. However, a little over half the frigates and cruisers still managed to reach knife fighting range with the Turian armadas.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 8
Alliance: 85 + 10 = 95
ParSec: 47 + 30 = 77
Council: 51 + 15 = 66
Batarians: 88 + 25 = 113
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
And then proceeded to ram them.

Eyes all across the fleet opened in shock from those not hit while those who were already issued orders to brace for impact as thousands of frigates and hundreds of cruisers smashed head first into the Turian ships and formation. Their main guns firing as fast as possible along with their Gardian lasers both for the ships ramming and those diving deeper and deeper into the Turian fleet.

Orders were given and the Turians tried to take down the frigates but it was impossible, the Batarian ships were moving too fast, too close, they could not reorient fast enough to target them and they would also be risking friendly fire.

The Alliance were far better off due to the fact that the Batarians had chosen to charge the Turian battle line and instead focused on repositioning as the Alliance captains predicted that the Batarians were actually trying to escape the battlefield by going through the Turians.

The Pyndas and Parsec forces were now too far away deep in former enemy battle lines to contribute as they focused on making sure the engine damaged ships had their weapons disabled with liberal use of lasers and missiles.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 9
Alliance: 95 + 10 = 105
ParSec: 32 + 30 = 62
Council: 87 + 15 = 102
Batarians: 42 + 20 = 62
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Ultimately however, the Batarian's gambit was all for naught as the Alliance's upgraded ships were able to accelerate and cut off the escape route of the Batarian ships that managed to get through the Turian fleet cause them to be sandwiched between them and the Turian fleets who were now spitting mad and the massive amount of casualties inflicted by the Batarian's madness.

The combined firepower of the two fleets swiftly destroyed the remaining Batarian ships and marine boarders were sent to all of the rammed ships to help them fight off any potential Batarian borders, rescue the crew, and if possible repair the ship to at least get it moving again out of the battlezone.

Now the way was clear to the real target Torfan, but first everyone had to take stock of their damage, their losses, and their dead before continuing onward.

AN: The dice really did not like the turians. So how did you find my first attempt at space fleet combat? Anything I can do better or change?

It is getting harder and harder for me to write for this quest, I can feel my muse fighting me every step of the way and my will to continue flagging down. As you can tell from the update the quality is dropping as well with it. I feel so tired. Will be the last update for a while I think, unless I get a sudden surge of inspiration and willpower or something for this quest or if someone else wants to take over. I will try to finish this war arc if I can at the very least.

Interlude
Interlude

Admiral Kaestus Sylcus stood upon the command podium of his flagship the Defiance of Irune, the flagship dreadnought of the glorious warfleet gathered to strike at the Batarians and begin the first steps in pacifying the damned Batarians with superior Turian military might even if they had to let the Humans strike the first blow.

That was the intent at least. Now he clenched his talons hard enough to draw blood as his eyes took in the list of casualties and damage from the battle. He had lost roughly half of his escort and cruiser assets and third of his soldiers in the first battle of the war. In fact the total number of troops lost probably would have been even higher if the majority of them were not in the transport ships await for their signal to enter into the system once the fighting in orbit was over. The ones that died were the vanguard troops intended to begin immediate deployment once the orbital forces were wiped out.

And wiped out they were but not because of the Hierarchy's effort. There was no denying their presence affected the outcome of the battle, but that was it, affected. Most of the accolades went to the Alliance Navy and none could gainsay it as the records of the battle were disseminated through the captains in the fleet and servicemen both to inform them of the enemy capabilities, which were vastly superior to before, and for morale purposes.

The same enemy fire which was badly mauling their shields and ships were absorbed by the Alliance ships like how they were supposed to be. Before with normal ships with normal weapons and normal shields. Like how it had always been in battles between the Turian Hierarchy and the Batarian Hegemony. Now it wasn't. The transferred battle data showed a frightening reality, everybody was hitting far harder than their size, frigates hit like cruisers, cruisers like dreadnought, while the dreadnoughts were unleashing firepower greater than anything recorded on something not land based or installed into immobile weapons platform.

Fleets worth of fighters dueling in between the two fleets like buzzing insects with a criss cross of lights indicating weapons fire trading between the two. A massive swarm of PI drones swarmed the battlefield flooding the field with firepower upon the enemy fighters and ship torpedoes. They would have likely won the space battle themselves if it wasn't for the Batarian's latest weapon. A mech suit. Giant Asarioid mech suits capable of space flight darted through the swarms and fighters unleashing death upon everything around them. The number of drones visibily thinning around wherever they were present with entire fighter wings getting instantly turned into debris upon contact. No doubt if they were no drones in play the amount of dead pilots and destroyed fighters would have likely been catastrophic or even total. Lasers, particles, kinetic rounds, missiles, and more were unleashed by those spirit damned suits. Suits they were and not outright mechs as confirmed by scans indicating a living pilot inside of each of them with whatever tech experts in the fleet all agreeing those were likely suicide troops as there was simply no way for them to have enough life support to range so far from the fleet, fight the battle, and return alive to their motherships.

Suicidal mech pilots. Another thing to add to his report of failure. A failure it was no matter the end result of this operation. With so many losses someone would have to shoulder the blame and responsibility and as the highest ranking admiral in charge and a dutiful Turian it would be his shoulders that bear it. A dishonorable discharge would be the lightest sentence he could see himself getting.

Focusing back on the present he observed the battle recordings of the Alliance vs the Batarians as he watched the effectiveness of their ships against the Batarians compared to his own ships. The Alliance, such a young race, but whose ships and skills were now fully or will fully be recognized after this battle. The skirmish at Shanxi was inconclusive as the battle was much too short and too small scale for anything besides doubt of just luck to settle in the eyes of the Turians about Human naval capabilities, but now, they had ample proof of just what they are capable of. A few smaller fleets had destroyed more enemy ships of a larger fleet, survived far more firepower than what the 5 larger fleets of the Turian navy had taken, and took overall less casualties even with them being the vanguard force of the invasion.

There was one Truth the Turian Hierarchy had to learn from this battle. Their ships were outdated, and if all of the rest of the Batarian fleets were updated like the ones here were already, then seriously needed to be replaced yesterday. The Hierarchy would need to significantly expend more resources both into the production of new ships but also in the development of better ones. If only they had their own Shepard as well to advanced their tech like she did for Humanity, rumors was that all of the Alliance ships had underwent recent upgrades to Paragon standards within the last few years which upon seeing the battle seemed quite likely to be true now. Though he did wonder how they managed to get so accurate with their volleys as he watched the very aesthetically pleasing shots of a wall of main gun volleys smashing multiple rounds into the Batarian ships simultaneously and cause them outright explode.

Looking away from the data in front of him and out the bridge viewport past the heads of his bridge crew, who were all seriously and quietly working at their stations, he looked out at Torfan, now undefended in orbit. The ground portion would soon begin after they took out the orbital station. He wondered just how powerful the Alliance ground troops would be compared to the Council's own attempts at replicating their efforts in the field of power armor, with nothing to speak of regarding their latest vehicles.

Admiral Kaestus felt a thrill of anticipation and dark glee race across his crest as he thought about the carnage which would soon be unleashed upon the four eyed bastards. They had gotten so many good soldiers killed and enslaved so many more, if the Alliance power armored troops were even half as effective as their ships, and if even a quarter of what he had been hearing about Parsec's operations were true, then the Batarians would have no idea what hit them.

With the fleets all reorganized they as one began making their way forward with the Alliance ships once again leading the charge as it was now clear that their defenses were the only one sufficient for the battle to come. Something that the Batarians were in agreement with as sensors and alarms blared as a positively massive ground to orbit response was launched from the surface to orbit installations in addition to the ones installations that were on the station.

Obviously the information was severely outdated as the orbital station fired multiple cruiser level cannons which were studded around its upper hull as well as releasing several ships' worth of flyers and missiles, and most worryingly of all activated a shield that was significantly stronger than anything previously recorded except for some land based facilities. Meanwhile, the amount of ground to orbit fire was a magnitude more and stronger than estimated with the Alliance fleet getting absolutely hammered by the sudden incoming fire by what should have been a much less heavily defended orbit.

The enemy fire nearly took out the majority of the Alliance fleet with the suddenness and ferocity of the assault if it wasn't for the Pyndas intercepting enemy fighters and missiles with their potent laser systems along with the Council Fleet distracting the station to focus on them. Even then the hailstorm of anti orbital fire took out a few Alliance ships.

In exchange the Laser Pyndas took their revenge on the fighter forces reducing them to shreds even as their lasers bypassed the kinetic shields on the station and destroyed many of the hull mounted emitters and defensive emplacements weakening both its attack and defense capabilities.

In response the station and ground installations began focusing fire on the Parsec and Alliance ships forcing them to disengage and fall back under the heavy fire, but freeing up the Turian fleets to open fire on the station with impunity and time to aim ensuring all the shots hit dead on without colliding into each other causing visible explosions of various shield emitters across the station's hull and a visible decrease in the strength of the station's shielding.

With the Council ships bombarding the station the Alliance and Parsec ships were able to distance themselves, regroup, and add their fire against the station while avoiding the fire coming from the planet.

The station was slowly getting battered apart with messages being passed around that an attempt should be made to secure the station once the shield was down. In response fighters and drones were deployed to escort boarding transports containing both Alliance and Council forces. As they neared the station, timing for projected instance when the shield would be down and they would be coming in from an angle where the laser pyndas had already cleared the hull defenses, the station suddenly exploded into a ball of nuclear fury and innumerable shrapnel.

The explosion outright destroyed the closest fighters and transports while the cloud of super accelerated station fragments made the station into the galaxy's largest nuclear powered fragmentation grenade as the pieces tore through the surrounding space and every vessel smaller than a frigate. Even then frigate sized vessels were damaged as their shields were overwhelmed and the hypersonic metal pieces penetrated deep into the hull requiring engineering crews to conduct emergency repairs or section sealing. Even the cruisers were not unscathed as their shields were strained to the limit causing equipment damage which would reduce their capabilities until repaired.

It seems even when losing the Batarians could not help causing trouble even if it meant their deaths as in addition to the dangerous fragments flying through space now, a debris field now floated in orbit acting as a navigational hazard as well as a large electromagnetic cloud throwing out waves of radiation readings from the nuclear explosive which was used in the stations self destruct.

Again the ships of the invading fleet had to pull back to reorganize and reassess the damage taken and most of all reassess the enemy.

Fleet Command was starting to get nervous now and concerned at the sheer lack of self preservation among the Batarian forces. Multiple times now the enemy was willing to use suicidal tactics to engage their forces and fought to the death just to deal damage to them instead of surrendering. Also, the latest action showed that the Batarians had nuclear assets in play and were willing to use them, even on themselves if necessary. Just what in the world was the Batarian government doing in order to command such ruthlessness among their forces? Probably nothing good.

Just another crime to add to the Batarian's list of why they had to be stopped. The destruction of the station in such a violet way had hurt the fleets, in addition to the all the lost soldiers most if not all of their fighter and drone complements were destroyed meaning that they could not provide air superiority over the battlefield even if they could maintain the orbitals to prevent any future reinforcement due to the presence of the anti orbital defenses keeping them at bay. This meant that the troops were going to have to slog through the enemy defenses if they could not breach the anti air space successfully. They could not even bombard the planet due to the presence of slaves on the moon which were to be saved if possible.

However, they still had to try to land inside, as projections showed that trying to safely land outside the defenses would require the ground forces to travel through, break, and take several kilometers worth of fortified terrain at great cost in lives and material. If they could land within the defenses successfully and take down the local anti air and anti orbital fortifications then they would be able to by pass many of the enemy fortifications, significantly cutting down the time and loss of lives required for victory.

With heavy hearts the military leaders began calling out for volunteers among their forces for the next phase of the Battle, the Invasion.

They prayed for their men and women they were about to send down their.

For they were diving straight first into Hell.

With nothing contesting the orbital space in the system the combined fleets were free to take their time to prepare for the drop even if they had to keep some distance from the moon due to the anti orbitals. The scanning of the moon however for up to date information proved to be a mess due to the left over cloud of radiation left behind by the destroyed space station along with the multitudes of metal fragments cluttering up the orbital space clogging up the sensor readings as clearing past it for clearer scans would subject the ship in question to enemy fire.

The only usable information was the confirmation of the presence of the fortified pill box locations and what seemed to be trench lines dug all across the moon around a central fortress which was once was a small set of craters now transformed into a death trap. Analysts among the fleet were gossiping just how much money and man power was spent turning the moon into a fortified military stronghold from a 'pirate' lair in the short amount of time.

So with lack of any additional usable intel, the command was given for the vanguard force of Hierarchy, Alliance, and Paragon Security forces to make up the first wave, secure a landing zone, and take out the nearby anti air and anti orbital towers to allow for further reinforcements to come down and secure the area in full.

With the sheer amount of defenses present it was decided that all three forces would be deploying at the same time. A few hours later and the wave was launched with over a hundred transports leaving the fleet and diving straight towards the designated combat area while ParSec once again showing their technological edge a hundred power armored men and women propelled themselves through space. They swiftly left the other transports in their figurative dust as they entered the thin atmosphere of the moon at speeds which would have caused any other vehicle to burn up upon reentry as their specially designed shields protected their deadly passengers.

The Batarians predictably could not miss such a force and opened fire into the air with lasers and flak, filling the skies with Death.

--------------------------
Private Cartan gripped his rfile and safety harness as his troop transport weaved through the dense anti air with vibrations reverberating through the troops as the gunner or VI manning the defenses proved to be unnaturally accurate.

He was as proud Turian soldier who volunteered to be part of the vanguard to fight back against the Batarians and to make them pay for their crimes against the citizens of the galaxy. His gut roiled with nervousness as the transport shook even harder this time. Oh how he wished that he was one of the lucky ones who were issued the new Turian power armor which were made in response to the Human's power armor creation. However, those were only given to the elite veterans as there was just simply no way for them to make enough of the suits for everyone in such a short amount of time, and they definitely had bugs to be worked out. Turian engineering was amazing but not even the best team of engineers could develop what Paragon Industries could in less than a decade. Oh how he wished Dr Shepard was born a Turian but-

Private Cartan's thought stopped there and was swiftly replaced with terror as the side of his transport was blown wide open with him and the rest of the troops still alive being sucked out of the transport and soon met their demise upon hitting the ground alongside the multitudes of other Turian soldiers and transports as they rained from the skies of Torfan.

---------------------------
Saying it was a slaughter would be an understatement. Nearly every single Council transport ship was shot down or blown completely to pieces upon trying to reach the surface of Torfan. The defenses of the moon had near precognitive ability to predict the evasive actions of the troop transports and focused enough fire power to shred through the kinetic barriers as if they were made of paper. They had initially tried firing upon the incoming Paragon troops but soon switched fire to the Alliance and then again switched to Council as they proved neither as tough or mobile as the former incoming forces. That wasn't to say the Alliance did not lose some transports as well, but compared to the Council they were basically unscathed.

If there was more an a few dozen Turian troopers still alive after crash landing in hostile enemy territory after the initial hour it would be considered a miracle. That meant the only real forces that made it to the ground in semi one piece was the Parsec power armored troops and the majority of the Alliance soldiers whose transports survived the trip. Now they had to accomplish the mission placed upon them or survive and somehow extract themselves out of the dangerous situation they found themselves in.

-----------------------------

Lieutenant Rico let loose another burst of shots at the enemy being highlighted against the darkness of the night as they rushed towards the trench line taking down another foe as he tried to multitask with coordinating with the surviving troops in the area.

He had signed up to fight aliens and defend Humanity for a very nice paycheck and toys. He did not expect to be invading a damn alien pirate slaver moon along side the Alliance and the Council, nor did he ever expect to see the Council being chewed up and tossed around like toys by the Batarians in the last 24 hours.

Their total number of forces were basically non existent and everyone with a working comms was spreading the word to hunker down then group as they were not even more heavily outnumbered and outgunned no matter how many of them had power armor protecting them. If they had access to the Jacks and Tigers then this would have been far less of a issue, but until they took down the anti air they would not be receiving heavy vehicle support as they would just be blown out of the sky like the Turians. If they really had to they might try sending down a Jack, but chances are it might get taken out on the way down or just crash into the planet as it tries to decelerate from the immense speeds it would need to outrun the anti air.

So the Alliance and Parsec linked up where they could, scuttling their transport ships to prevent them from being used against them and immediately aimed for the closest bit of cover they can grab, the Batarian's own trenches. The Batarians within were not expecting them to say the least and a hail of rifle fire and repulsor blasts quickly cleared the trenches for them to use for themselves and they quickly got to work on fortifying their section of the trench with more dirt and makeshift barricades.

Parsec had the least number of troops but greatest firepower so they either turned their areas into dead man lands for anyone nearby or quickly merged up with the larger Alliance troop formations and helped them begin taking more and more of the trenches towards the nearest anti air emplacement.

That was when things got worse, apparently the Batarians had hidden artillery, short ranged artillery but artillery still and were shelling their own trench lines, both to keep them suppressed and to try to kill any of their forces along with their own troops no matter the amount of friendly casualties.

And then They arrived.

From within the enemy lines under the cover of darkness they came as a wave. The only indication they were here was the muffled sounds of footsteps echoing through the thin atmosphere and the troops noticing the moving blips of blue lights which were swiftly getting closer.

A quick switch to night vision and alarms were immediately sent out up and down the trench and to the other pockets of allied positions.

As if sensing they had been detected They began moving even faster with some of them running on all fours and leaping like beasts!

Soon they had entered within range of the mark I peepers and they were as ugly as they were terrifying in night vision.

They looked liked someone had taken someone and turned them into a monster. Glowing blue eyes, elongated claws, some sort of biomechanical gas mask. If they were people once they certainly did not act like them anymore as they charged their own former trench lines.

Everyone opened fire upon the wave of horrors approaching their positions, but the terror inspired by their appearance, sudden approach, and sheer unknown about them had reduced the accuracy of their gunfire. What gunfire did hit did not seem to stop them at all only pushing them back with them quickly regaining their balance and continue charging again. They seemed immune to pain but shots to the head still seemed to kill them.

However, that was not enough to stop them as they reached the trench line and leaped right into it and began literally tearing into the troops within.

The powered armor troops did the best against them of course as their armor was effective against their enemy's claws and close range repulsor blasts sent them flying out of the trenches or outright destroyed their heads killing them quickly. The same could not be said for the Alliance whose gear, while now top of the line with the latest kit upgrade was just not up to stopping a sharp metallic claw hitting with the force of a Krogan with the lucky ones only getting launched across the trench lines with dented armor and the worst having their helmets crushed or a claw exiting out of their back.

Lieutenant Rico dodged another swipe at his head by the thing in front of him and let loose a burst into its head while firing a repulsor blasts behind one of his men who was about to get swiped from behind by another one of those things. The amount of enemies were limited and it looked like they are about to make it through this attack when suddenly a deep growl echoed through the ground cause some of them to look out of the trenches towards the source.

Lt Rico felt his blood chill as he witnessed what could only be a Monster emerge from the darkness, how the hell did they miss its coming, were they that focused on the fight?

It was standing over twice the height of a normal man and was holding a gun more fit to be on a tank than anything man portable. With armor looking twice as thick as theirs and strength to match the Monster was no doubt the Batarians attempt at countering power armored troops. Though with only two eyes on that thing whether it was actually a Batarian in there or some messed up victim was up for someone else to debate as it was charging their position right now!

It moved faster than anything that big should be capable of and its gun unleashed a golden yellow laser beam from its barrel as it swept it across the field causing multiple deaths for those who failed to duck in time. Every step of its massive form caused a rumbling to tremble through the ground and no doubt if it got into close range it was going to tear through their forces.

"This is Lieutenant Rico, we got enemy heavy power armor and we need heavy weapons support, can anyone assist!?" He called through the comms even as he let loose full auto alongside several others with their repulsor blasts. The bullets did nothing but cause sparks to fly while the repulsors merely dented the armor of the incoming behemoth even as it got closer and kept firing its laser gun at them.

Two Parsec troopers flew into the air to try to open fire on the enemy only to be shot down by two larger beams of golden yellow light. Lt Rico looked and saw further back two more of the things each holding a larger shoulder mounted version of the gun the one in front was holding. The lifesigns of the two that were hit were stabilizing thanks to emergency medical treatment being administered by their fellows but they were down for the count which took two more soldiers out of the fighting as they were busy on medic duty and protecting the wounded.

Facing the rampaging Monster who was now heading his way he silently sent up a prayer to a God he had not prayed to in a long time for someone to save them even as readied his suits own self destruct.

Revy Roll: 95 +60 = 155

From the skies 3 beams of energy struck the heavy armored enemy, its two supporters, and instantly pierced through their armor piercing from head to groin. The screech of missiles could also be heard as the soldiers looked up and saw hundreds of small missiles land all across the battlefield across multiple trenches with pinpoint precision among the enemy ranks killing only the enemies, leaving behind only a sudden silence at that point of the battlefield with only distant firefights indicating the battle was still ongoing.

As one everyone looked up and saw the most beautiful and terrifying sight in the world.

The sight of none other than Dr Rebecca Shepard in power armor....in the middle of the battlefield.

As that fact sank into the minds of everyone witnessing her, Shepard posing in mid air, everyone immediately snapped out of it and yelled

"WHY ARE YOU HERE!?"

Lt. Rico was the first to snap out of the collective shock everyone found themselves in at the impossibility in front of them. Shepard was here. Shepard their main inventor and a businesswoman was HERE on the front lines and the enemy no doubt knew she was here.

"Shepard get out of here!" He shouted at the mad woman who turned to look at him from her position in the sky. Her bulky power armor glowed with power along with her shoulder mounted guns and heavy weapon in her hands.

She seemed to be about to speak when suddenly a half a dozen yellow beams slammed into her side causing her shields to flare up brightly even as her shoulder mounted weapon automatically turned and unleashed what looked like a LASER in the direction of the incoming fire, sweeping its bright ruby red beam across the field cutting off the attack as soon as it started.

"Dammit, priority message to Command, Shepard is on the field, I repeat Shepard is on the field, we need immediate Evac!" Lt. Rico yelled into his comms hoping that the ships above could hear him uncaring about the Batarians potentially tapping into their comms as the object of discussion was floating above the battlefield in full view unleashing shots into the darkness. With her on the battlefield things were going to be insane as if he was the enemy he would not hesitate to do anything to get ahold of her or kill her.

"All surviving units gather at my position and bunker down, we got incoming and Shepard supporting us!" Lt Rico said as he peaked out of the trench he was in with several dozen other men and women and looked out at the land on both sides of the line. Towards the inner Batarian lines what he saw made his blood chill colder than the atmosphere on the moon as he witnessed dozens of the same power armored heavies that were taken down by Shepard followed along by thousands of the glowing blue eyed monsters behind them all charging towards their position. He looked behind him and to his relief there were only what seemed to be hundreds of regular Batarian troopers and explosive collared slave troopers and none of the monsters supporting them.

The Alliance and Paragon Security troops needed no command to immediately begin unleashing everything they had at the literal horde of enemies barreling down upon them letting loose with everything they had. Volleys of kinetic rounds poured like water while repulsor blasts focused on the larger targets or Batarian commanders seen commanding the slave forces. The enemy forces of course responded back with their own fire of kinetic rounds, yellow beams, and missiles which were mostly countered by a combination of the trench and Angel shield modules, though in truth it was the fact that Shepard was attracting most of the yellow beam weapons which probably allowed their defenses to hold against the fierce return fire. Shepard was flying through the skies, which was suspiciously not filled with anti air fire from the local defense points, and was unleashing a veritable tide of missiles from her suit while simultaneously dodging dozens of beams with sudden janky maneuvers which should be generating stress impossible for people to handle, though Shepard probably had some techno magic that solved that issue.

Her missile barrage meanwhile focused on the Batarian power armored troops as what was recognizable as Pilum fire accurately targeted their massive forms only for the cyber zombie like units to literally toss themselves in between them and the incoming missiles prematurely detonating the payloads leaving the power armor units intact. On the other hand the missile barrage using her micro missiles targeting the cyber zombies units arrived unimpeded and blasted the back of their front lines to pieces even as the twin shoulder laser gun reaped a toll upon them as well after several shots at the power armored units showed reduced effectiveness on their thick armor. That did not discourage her from turning her massive cannon of a hand held weapon onto the massive targets and punching through them with a bright beam of light which only caused the rest to focus fire on her even more preventing her from accurately aiming her deadly weapon thought it did keep them from focusing on the rest of them.

Lt Rico tossed his grenades at the front lines while firing behind him with his arm mounted smg when he noticed gunfire hitting the Batarians from the back. He smiled, seems the survivors were reaching his position, in a few minutes their several dozen had ballooned to over five hundred with several more similar sized groups bunkered down around other officers closer towards the front lines. Just when he thought they could actually hold and continue the mission while getting Shepard out Lt Rico heard a strange whine and looked up to realize they had to fall back. Approaching from deeper within Batarian lines were a trio of the same mechs which tore through their aerospace forces.

At that same moment he and every other soldier received a command to retreat and save Shepard with orbital support unavailable due to danger close. Lt. Rico cursed as he and everyone else began leaving the trenches and focusing fire on the Batarians and slave soldiers between them and the Batarian's front lines even as they kept another hand lobbing grenades, missiles, smg fire, and repulsor blasts behind them to slow down the still incoming horde which did not seem to care about their own casualties. They couldn't even bring the dead with them in their rush to fall back, with the only saving grace being the wounded retreating under their own power as their suits assisted them physically and medically.

"Shepard! We are falling back! You need to as well! Incoming mechs!" Lt Rico yelled at his comms hoping she could hear him as she killed another four power armored troops. She immediately turned to see the incoming threats and less loose another mind boggling amount of missiles like a one woman arsenal at the incoming mechs even as she began flying backwards with the rest of the troops below her.

Batarian hard suits were blasted opens as kinetic rounds pounded past their kinetic barriers and through their armor like it was not even their. Their armor nothing like the ones given to more senior members of their leadership as they were low ranking grunts. Still superior to the non four eyed lesser beings but even then their armor was still around the Citadel standards. A price they now paid as they fell like wheat before the harvester as they and their slaves were cut down en mass.

The Alliance and ParSec troops fell back in disciplined formation providing covering fire for each other with the enemies in the path of retreat melting before their combined focused fire power even as the ones behind were delayed. They began focusing fire on the cyber zombies' legs to cripple them rather than outright kill as the cyber zombies began to trip and fall over the ones in front of them. Unfortunately, things were not going as well in the air with Shepard as she unleashed another round of missiles and seemingly ran out as she kept firing her laser and energy cannon at the incoming mechs and Batarian power armored troops beneath her. Her lasers acting as point defense against the mechs' missile barrage even as she performed a dizzyingly display of maneuverability to dodge their return fire. Kinetic rounds and yellow beams rippling her shields while laser fire was dodged by mere inches to spare causing the sky to look like a strobe party.

Lt Rico looked back as he cut down a Batarian trying to reach for his own grenade with his omni blade as he witnessed one of the shoulder generator on Shepard's armor spark and emit smoke before her barrier visibly dimmed in intensity. That was not good.

The troops continued to fall back, with reinforcements gained from the other groups of survivors joining up with them on their retreat adding their firepower to stemming the enemy pursuit forces while Shepard was still occupying the majority of the enemy heavy force's attention.

'Just how many of the cyber zombie things did the Batarians make?' Lt Rico thought as he let his smg cool down and switched to his repulsor again. The wave of glowing blue eyed monsters seemed endless, no matter how many of them they brought down there always seemed to be more to take their place with the massive forms of the power armored hulks behind them a ever present threat. If it wasn't for the fact that the enemy was focused on Shepard they would be suffering horrendous casualties from those deadly yellow beam weapons they carried.

They leapt over the next trench line filled with the still cooling corpses of the Batarian defenders that tried to stop their march. Their way out was basically cleared as the defenders had left their positions to charge them deeper inside their own lines leaving the outer defenses nearly unmanned.

A bang went off behind them with Lt Rico giving a quick glance back to seeing one of the mechs dropping from the sky trailing smoke like a meteor falling upon one of the power armored units causing a explosion that wiped them both out. Nice.

Parsec + Alliance = 76 + 45 = 121
Revy = 41 + 100 = 141
Batarians = 90 + 60 = 150

Evac 2/3
Revy Wound 2/3

With the destruction of that mech the Batarian's quickly changed tactics. How could Lt Rico tell? Because the two other mech suits immediately disengaged from Shepard and instead began blasting off towards them, firing their deadly weapons and payloads into their retreating formations. The missiles, heavy kinetic rounds, and laser fire scythed through their ranks, even their enhanced legionary shields doing little than slow down the rate at which their shields broke and armor penetrated under such intense firepower. Their progress was stopped as they had to open fire to take down the giant mechs in their midst else they slaughter them all from behind as they ran. The mechs were a constant blur of death as they rocketed among them never stopping, allowing their automated laser weapons to cut them down, never allowing them to get a clear shot at them with their own repulsors and pilums to take them down with their shots either missing entirely or only winging them causing light damage that was slowly being repaired.

Shepard immediately went after them unleashing firing down at the two mechs with both her lasers and hand held cannon causing significant damage to the two. The purpose of such vulnerability quickly evident as the power armored Batarian troops managed to land dozens of strikes against Shepard's shield causing it to break, hitting the functional shield generator shoulder blowing it off and hitting her main weapon as well causing it to explode sending Shepard dropping to the ground.

Every Batarian force on the field immediately focused in on the falling form and as if they were all of one mind immediately began advancing upon her projected impact site.

Parsec + Alliance = 86 + 45 = 121
Revy = 49 + 100 = 149
Batarians = 7 + 60 = 67

Evac 3/3
Revy Wound 2/3

That turned out be a mistake as apparently Shepard has been hampering herself with her initial loadout of that bulky energy weapon as she deployed her hand repulsors and began flying away towards us while the repulsors' golden beams destroyed the Batarians beneath her like leaves hit by a hurricane as she swept the beams behind her. That also meant all the enemies were no longer near any of their forces and were now currently all grouped up staring at Shepard with their meat shields out of position to guard them.

As one everyone instantly raised their weapons and unleashed all their pilums and repulsors towards the mechs and power armored enemies. The missiles slamming dead onto them and blowing out their center mass with repulsors slamming them back and sometimes smashing through their armor from the combined strikes. Under so much firepower they were swiftly destroyed and the remaining cyber zombies were quickly pushed back much to everyone's relief. However, a quick look back at the Batarian lines showed another wave of enemies approaching with even more power armor among them.

They had to go. Luckily, the enemies were now too far to catch up to them and whatever left overs remaining in the front lines could no longer stop them from escaping. Unfortunately they could not retrieve their dead and judging from the new enemies that appeared that is going to be a mistake and a regret.

Lt. Rico let out a sigh of relief as they finally got out of range of the Batarian's defenses and all basically collapsed while a few took up guard duty just in case the enemies tried to sortie out after them. A quick look at Shepard showed an ugly sight. Her armor was burned, pocked marked, and damaged all over with her shoulders completely blown out. She was made of tougher stuff than he thought given she wasn't complaining about the bruises she was no doubt having under that armor or she had made some better meds which was not out of the question.

That was until one of her shoulders let out a small boom and the entire arm fell off attracting everyone's attention and panic. Lt. Rico quickly began calling for a evac ship to be sent down in a hurry until he realized that Shepard was still not panicking and that the shoulder area of the armor just revealed more machine and no flesh.

She bent down and picked up her own arm and waved it about "Don't worry guys, it's just a flesh wound!"

That raised even more questions from those around them and to top it all off now was when the Admiral finally connected to ask for a report from whoever was in command with everyone just turning to look at him.

"Why me?"

"You were the highest ranked officer in the area fighting in the beginning till now, you're intel is most complete for a quick debrief." Came the agreement from the other surviving officers higher ranked than him.

Lt. Rico wished he could take his helmet off right now so he could face palm.

*Back in Batarian Lines*

Over the dusty gray surface of the moon a Batarian walked among the dead as many of the Converted swarmed around him going towards the dead left behind by the Lesser Beings who dared to strike at their Betters. He stared down at one of the new Legionary suits now with its user dead beneath him and grinned a savage grin with his blue augmetic eyes glowing just a bit brighter.

AN: I have no excuse, my muse finally woke up for this chapter. Sorry for the lackluster fight scenes, not really good at those still. My head is killing me and sorry for the lack of voting options, there will be some next update. you guys are so lucky I had to redo my rolls due to wrong combat mods I had initially put down or else the Batarians would have outright steamrolled over everyone, roll 90+ for everything and a nat 100 at the end against Shepard. Only reason it was not a insta loss was because they wanted Shepard alive.

roll for bringing back the dead = 27
roll for Batarians recovering Brian's body = 93 + 10 = 103
