Shepard Quest Mk VI, Technological Revolution

If you have to make mechs, why not make one that has multiple legs and make it so that it lower to the ground?
Because we need it lift things to higher places and is already low enough as is. More legs means more maintenance and eventually it gets to the point that is more expedient to build a guntank rather than add more legs.

Damn Yog. Hope there's no mental damage from trying to force cruddy ME stuff to make sense. That's an insane amount of work.

Warning, long but I really would appreciate comments and feedback. The plan is first then the reasoning is after to keep things tidy.

[X] Plan Madfish

Invest in security? 1 million per building per quarter (amount will be the same for any "high security" buildings)
[X] Yes
-[X] For each separate compound budget
an extra 10 million for extra perimeter security, air space and areas between buildings and layered security (i.e. extra external security on each building to watch the buildings around it)

Who do you want to get your PMC license from?
[X] Get permits for the Systems Alliance (1.5 million in total fees) and the Citadel (1 million in fees) to ease operations where there might be 'borders'

PMC Name?
[X] Paragon Protection

Who will you pursue? (Choose one)
[X] Gaver Dor

Will you try to acquire anything? (Choose one)
[X] Ship weapons components (400 million credits, 200 points to next level of MAC tech, Bradley now gets 260,000 per Production)
Do you want to grab one of the sites?
[X] Underground base is go! (Security bonus, additional costs 20 million)

What type of interview? (You can if you wish review any type of interview before publication.)
[X] Video

Where will you do the interview?
[X] At your home

What got you into science and engineering in the first place?
[X] My dad actually, one of my earliest memories is him tinkering at his work bench seeing what he could put together for fun
.

Where did the idea for the Legionary armor come from?
[X] That's a hard one to pin down, initially I was just tinkering and it grew from there. There might have been some influence from some comics I read but I think the single biggest influence comes from an old pre-colonisation Table Top game with giant armoured warriors, aliens and monsters where everyone was trying to survive in a desperate universe.

What can you tell us about the arc-reactor (and/or other PI technologies)?
[X] Basic layman's explanation
-[X] Give Basic technical details as well.

What do you think the effects of the arc-reactor will be on society?
[X] I don't think there's another word for it except revolutionary. One of the greatest limits on a great many technologies and avenues of research is power
. Having enough, or even just having a small and light enough source to make a particular device viable. My hope is with energy available much more cheaply and without the was products required for other systems that all parts of our culture will experience a Renaissance and that other's will be inspired to try to bring forward and nurture projects and, well- anything that would previously been ignored or forgotten for such reasons.
-[X] UberJJK

And on the military?
[X] The first thing is that Defensive Technologies will see an immediate boost- more power available means stronger, faster charging shields, better manoeuvrability and a host of other benefits that can be engineered in that were previously impossible due to power budget. Of course again like in the public sector previously impractical technologies are being made possible, such as our Vehicular Laser and Repulsor armaments that would be nearly impossible with more traditional methods of power generation.
-[X] UberJJK

What should we expect to see next from Paragon Industries?
[X] Firstly, when I started selling to the military my primary goal was to make the job our protectors safer. Following that we are going to be beginning research into improving kinetic barriers in a more efficient way that just brute force by increasing power. We've sent out feelers to gauge the interest of several prominant scientists in the field about working with us and when we hear back we'll get to work.
[X] On the medical side we're going to expand our laboratories in the next five years into looking into some of the genetic diseases that afflict members of the greater galactic community both in Citadel space initially and the Terminus. More specifically to start with to see if there's anything we can do about alleviating Kepral's Syndrome for the Drell.
-[X] The New ANI initial marketing
materials

Who's you favorite historical scientist?
[X]
That's a hard choice... I'd say it's a toss up between Tim Berners-Lee who pioneered computer communication and James Clerk Maxwell. Without his work Einstein may not have made his discoveries in Special Relativity.

What will you do?
[X] Try and confirm the legitimacy of the message.
-[X] Pay (500 million credits)

What shall we do?
[X] Sell a few large arc-reactors to Eldfell-Ashland Energy.
-[X] 4 of the same grade as our power plant on Mindoir
--[X] Look into expanding our own energy company.
[X] Sell/Donate to The Post Scarcity Society
-[X] 4 of the same grade as our power plant on Mindoir.
-[X] Request to be kept updated on the projects they're used for
--[X] If we have the production capacity don't count them against the Citadel Quota
[X] Give the Turian Hierarchy a discount on their bulk order(s)
-[X] 5%
-[X] Give a further 5% refund on any used for Medical or 'Humanitarian' projects directly.

-------------

Right Reasoning time!

Firstly on the security issue, 1 million investment per building is a lot but we also need to remember that their is 'dead' space in and around the compounds that needs monitored as well both on the ground and in the air.

On the PMC getting both permits will cost more but it will also make operations such as escorting dignitaries and goods across the borders of Citadel and Alliance Space much easier and will cut down on red tape problems some parties might use to imped our PMC employees work.
The name I'm flexible on but first and for most I think it should firmly stand for the jobs we'd prefer they take, Colony Defence, Escort, the sorts of jobs that build a lot of good will.

For the Scientist I'm going for Gaver Dor for three reasons;
  • Firstly and least that the Krogan Scientific perspective is a very rare one to acquire
  • Secondly we've had actual correspondence with him before
    • The fact that we'll step up and fight when needed is likely a good point with him as well
  • Thirdly is his style likely synergies well with our ability to provide lots of power
    • Revy can also provide a more finesse approach to the projects as well when they interact
The reason for Weapons over Parts is partly because Conrad is right on the subject, partly because it provides a larger research boost and partly because we're not going to be hurting for cash any time soon.

The Underground choice for the base is Security based as the biggest advantage it offers is a massive restriction in egress and ingress. The biggest worry we'll have is that we don't have the automatic 'respect' we have on Mindoir as a someone who risked their life to protect them. Nor do we have direct oversight being a massive distance away. Without that employees may be significantly more bribable.
It also allows almost unlimited expansion downward and limits the ability of others to remotely observe the facility.

For the interview the reasoning for Video and Home is to give us a chance to look personable in an otherwise fairly technical interview. This is one of the first interviews we've given and will be the first impression most will get of us so it's important it's both good and relatable.

Inspiration wise I think that Revy's Dad would have been important and Space Marines from the games she played with him are an obvious in character inspiration.

For the Arc reactor description, this is a technical publication so skimping on the details there is likely to annoy the core readership. However it's also a revolutionary invention so starting with the layman's version is reasonable and also gives some information to those who are watching the interview purely to see Revy, keeping them interested and stopping boredom setting in keeping their opinion high too.

The description of the effects of the reactor is to show case some of Revy's personality, progressive and protective but also (as seen with her interactions with and setting time aside to build things for Kasumi) nurturing.

The future projects of paragon is to whet interest and also to make finding volunteers easier to find when we have facilities to proceed with Xenogenetic research. It also further pushes Revy's humanitarian side in an interview that has strongly brought up weaponry. Capping off with the new ANI shows that we've no plans to abandon our routes in 'hard' Engineering and shows a civilian applicable device that will revolutionise the entertainment and communications industry.

For the historical scientists Tim Berners-Lee by refusing to patent his invention allowed the internet as we have it today and gives another link to Revy's altruistic leanings. While James Clerk Maxwell and her comments about Einstein show she understands that the work she and others do is built on those who came before showing maturity and a degree of respect for the greater scientific community.

Shadowbroker, we have the money after some basic precautions to make sure it's not a scam we should pay. Knowing who our immediate enemies are is very important, especially when they're using fronts and deniable assets.

For Arc Reactor sales;
  • For Edfell-Ashland Energy it show's a willingness to play ball with established companies and in the long term 4 reactors are peanuts.
  • For The Post Scarcity Society it gives us a chance to improve our reputation with the Citadel races with altruism by not cutting others out in the cold for a tax break.
    • In addition they've done good work for earth and so we should foster good relations with them as they are willing to look past species boundaries and help where needed. Just the sort of Contacts we want to be building in preparation for our Xenobiology work.
    • The request to keep up to date on the projects acts as triple duty in that it gives us:
      • A reason beyond donation requests to keep in contact with the society,
      • Helps us watch for one being absconded with and
      • Shows interest in the Charities on going work, something I think would be true of Revy from her previous actions with Liara.
  • For the Turian's they already like us, keeping them happy could pay major dividends down the line when we want to get into restricted research such as the AI Preparation and Licensing.
    • Similarly the rebate is a further sign that Revy cares about non-military projects and 'Civilian' isn't a word that really applies to the Turian Culture.

On the other hand these mirrors seem to be under a lot of strain so they might not be able to handle the high accelerations. Also don't underestimate the mass here. A mirror 1m in diameter and 5cm thick masses 100kg. It's certainly not light given that they need to be thick enough to not melt, apparently an issue for ME .

Yeah . I'm not totally sure on mirror/lens materials or thermal lost to them but I think you could do some sort of ceramic glass. That stuff can handle temperature fluxes of thousand of degrees I hear. Still 100kg is not all that much (though maybe high COIL's lens is 150kg and its what 1.8 or so meters wide?). Even guesstimating that the total mass is say 300kg? Getting the thing to do 10 revolutions per second give me a torque estimate of of ~54,000. Which is survivable or so the calculators claim. Its got like 5% of the mass of a Phalanx. Using the same lazy estimate the phalanxe deals with twice as much.

Of course that's ignoring the "fun" of using ME field to drop the mass and thus rotational stress. And also not considering the adaptive optics or other aiming aids.

How large? I wouldn't be surprised if a 100 or so could actually make it through and begin ripping the enemy ship apart.

Let me figure out ME combat speeds first they are a bloody mess. That said if a frigate sat there and did nothing and the drones shot at it...

Well lowest estimate for a 100m spinal is ~316GJ, Since the ME shot is going got be fairly small I'm going to ignore impact diameter differences. And as repulsor weapons have a strong kinetic element they'll hit the shields. A 10cm chugs down 700MW, and we guesstimated that the efficiency was tiny... like ~1%. I'll go with 2% so each repulsor beam is a 14MW weapon. Don't recall the on/off cycle or repulsors but I'll ignore it. The only spinal we aver get stats on has a fire rate of 2 seconds making it a 158GW weapon. Which means in terms or raw power output you need 11 thousand to match.

Now there are some factors in the drones favor that lower this number though by an unknown amount. One particle stream (and stream weapons in general as well as rapid impacts) depletes shields faster (1.5x to 3x effect looking at ME2). Two the drone would have an easier time focusing on a single shielding section(unknown)*. Three the shields may leak some, though this did change between ME1 and ME2 so IDK . Has there ever been an official comment of repulsor shield interaction? I'm inclined to say the wouldn't penetrate very much of at all esp due to their very kinetic nature.

*This is really never brought up in ME, so due to superconducting elements and a good electrical system I'm inclined to think that this isn't relevant outside of determining the possibility of a shield bypass event on a per hit basis.

The shield should in total take at least ten hits from an equivalent size ship (probably more but eh tens a nice number). That gives shields a combat capacity of 3160GJ over ~20s, not considering regeneration.

I'm not going to take a stab at the armor but from the laser effects I've guesstimated they should put some pretty nasty hurt on the armor.

So yeah IDK depends on the shield penetration factor. W/O penetration a swarm under 1000 is useless, less then ~4000 merely annoying. With shield penetration... IDK. Whatever is enough to get close enough and star shooting. Pretty much just enough to survive until they close to range and then pop the turrets, though might be a few more then one would guess at first if shield penetration accuracy is low..

Actually now that i think of it, would attempts to recruit Gala Da'van, Jenzel Fend nar Rayya, and that colony/civilian sales rep I forgot the name of be viable as personal actions ?

GM -ruling was that Hoyr doesn't want us to get all three of them, so it is just not going to happen unless you manage to convince him with good reasons why he should allow it. I imagine having to write unique techs for all three of them, for example, makes him vary about allowing it.

The fact that I gave you a choice was more me letting you have a choice instead of just saying here's a research hero do you want him/her? Some of it came down to the fact that you asked for "something to do with shielding".

More in gameish. He people you don't hire tend to go off and do something productive with their abilities. At the level of ability your considering its a seller's market. Pretty much any of the candidate will get a good. Job you need to make it see worth while to be hired by the new bubble startup that is poking a lot of beehives. I suppose you could looking into hiring people that got passed over before, but I will in no way guarantee any success, they will have most likely found a job or will not be willing to take a lower position then the original option.

which @Hoyr has already hinted will probably get us targeted again,

If that was a hint then I'd hate to see what you call an actual warning. On the other hand Mindoir basically has a permanent cruiser flotilla over head. The number has be dancing between 1-3 for a while now.

So, @Hoyr , does this count as an omake?

Wow great stuff. While I'm not going to claim that 100% of the physics involved will apply directly, most due to the needs of story. It is a nice description of several factors and a useful resource to start considerations from.

Yeah sure, I'd personal rather this one was not redeemed for RP. Most due to the fact that RP/Omake has always been 50 regardless of length :(. And well you've put a lot of work into it. You could ask for a number of rewards. RP is still an option. A training bonus is one too. A minor plot tweak. Or something else you think of. So what do you want?

I may choose to alter the RP/omake thing.

@Madfish, like some others on this thread, you only have about a quarter of a vote there. You still need Company Actions, Research die allocation, and Personal actions.

So, an omake. A document, a proposal to alliance top brass. It is several years till we can make it, and back it up. But still, it can be made, and that's terrifying.

COSMIC TOP SECRET
File #41310212
Project Veto

Abstract: Using pulsed mass effect fields, stable black holes can be destabilized, causing their mass-energy to be released in the form of particle and electromagnetic radiation in an explosive manner. This project proposes a way to achieve such a feat.

Project overview.
Faster than light travel is achieved by locally varying the speed of light. Schwarzschild radius is inversely proportional to the square of the speed of light. As such, in theory, it should be possible to turn a stable black hole, at least a rotating one, into a naked singularity by subjecting it, or parts of it, to a strong enough mass lowering field.
The technical challenge that made such an attempt impossible before now is twofold. Firstly, one must be able to generate a strong enough mass effect field over a large enough area affecting large enough mass to create localized disturbance penetrating deep enough into the black hole to strip the singularity of its event horizon. Secondly, the devices used to generate the mass lowering fields must survive long enough for the singularity to be completely destabilized by the variation of the speed of light in the area it occupies.
Development of arc reactor technology, total internal reflection radiation shielding, and artificial eezo production, coupled with advances in energy storage and transfer technologies now make this possible.
Military, political and economic applications of such a technology can't be underestimated. As such, it needs to be developed, along with possible counters to it, lest it gets developed by someone else.

Technical details.
The main component of the proposed system is a swarm on automated drones from here on referred to as "Longinus" model (further details below) based upon the independent baseships referred to as Pilate. The drones are to be positioned in the orbit of the black hole in its rotational plane, as determined by separate monitoring using gravitational wave scanners and seed drones inserted into the upper layers of the black hole under protection of low-level mass lowering fields. An additional series of drones is to be positioned along the black hole's rotational axis.

Upon activation drones enter the black hole under the protection of high powered mass lowering fields until they expose the singularity. Singularity's mass is significantly lowered by means of inserting multiple drones into its focus along its rotational axis. Afterwards, the singularity's rotation is sped up by means of inserting a number of drones rotating in its rotational plane around its axis in the same direction as it does. The destabilization is achieved by exposing the singularity, creating highly varied speeds of light along its length and dramatically (inversely proportional to the fifth power of the mass scaling coefficient).

Technical specifications of Longinus class drone:
TIR shielding
Infinite capacity vacuum capacitor
Arc reactor
Eezo core
Gravity wave scanners
Quantum entanglement communication suit
Piloting VI
Upon creation and release and until their usage drones continuously accumulate energy in their onboard vacuum based infinite capacity energy capacitors. Even so, and with several MkII arc reactors onboard it is assumed that at least several months will be require to accumulate enough energy for a single drone to successfully penetrate the supermassive black hole all the way to the singularity. It is estimated that several thousands of drones will be required for full destabilization.

Technical specifications of Pilate baseship:
Arc reactors:
TIR shielding and stealth systems
Thermal annihilation system
Quantum entanglement communication suit
Gravity wave scanners
Infinite resource life support system
Automated drone production and self-repair systems
Multicore infinite range eezo system
Because of the strategic nature of the proposed technology it is unthinkable to leave it in the hands of VI or even AI. As such, live crew is required to operate the system. For the same reason, and to assure unblockable second strike capability, complete prolonged stealth is required, which necessitates multi-year long shifts and away from base operations. All technology invested in the Watchtower ships is aimed to allow them to operate independently for indefinite periods of time, including possibly functioning as lifeboats and arcs for humanity in the event of its total destruction and activation of the Veto system as a second strike galaxy-wide MAD system.

Projected effect
Upon total destabilization of a black hole mass M kilograms that occurs at a constant pace over time T seconds, assuming that all of its mass is converted into electromagnetic radiation and highly relativistic particles, and disperses equally in all directions total power flux as measured R lightyears away from the black hole will be W=1.5×10-16×M/(T×R2) [W/m2].
Assuming a quick destabilization event occurring over times no more than ten seconds, the following data is obtained for strategically relevant black holes, in respect to the power observed at Earth:
A0620-00 (V616 Monocerotis, V616 Mon), closest known black hole to Sol system: W=3.4 MW
Sagittarius A, supermassive black hole at the center of Milky way: W=170 GW

As such, destabilization of either of those stellar objects will cause complete destruction of all life on Earth, from microbial one up. Destabilization of central supermassive black hole will destroy all life in the galaxy not protected by technological means.

Possible counter-tactics
First and foremost prevention of usage must be prioritized. In light of the demonstrated scale of technological achievements, it cannot be ruled that prothean civilization have developed such, or equivalent devices. Furthermore, it cannot be ruled that some as of yet undiscovered galactic or extra-galactic civilization is capable and willing to use such devices. In light of this, exploration and mapping of the galaxy with the endgoal of complete realtime monitoring of the whole galactic space via a series of linked scanner nodes, must be prioritized. In the event that such mapping is impossible, all known black holes must be put under constant observation and guard, and discovery of new black holes be made a priority.
Secondly, large scale defensive technologies, such as planetary scale kinetic and total internal reflection shielding must be developed and deployed on at least the most developed worlds, starting from homeworlds of races-signatories of citadel accords.
Thirdly, environmentally protected mobile faster than light capable habitats (arcs) capable of indefinitely sustaining viable populations must be created. Taking into account quarian flotilla experience, such ships must contain full bioshperes similar to those existing on the homewolrds of their creators, to prevent possible mutations due to prolonged multigenerational habitation.
Fourthly, extragalactic colonization efforts must be made. In order to maintain connection to such colonies, extensive utilization of quantum entanglement communication systems and mass relay technology must be made.

Conclusions
The danger of imminent and unavoidable destruction of all galactic life existed long before man first looked upon the stars. This document merely shows that it is there. It is our duty to make sure that, should it ever be used against us, we would be ready, and that we ourselves have the capability to strike against our enemies even in the event of complete destruction of our race.

I didn't really put that much thought into technical equipment of the drones or the ships, merely listing what systems they would need. The only think not already existing in the techtree is the infinite capacitors, and those are TIR based and, I think, relatively reasonable (story EM radiation / energy inside TIR-shieled area, basically). Hopefully @UberJJK will be able to help me with those at some point. I'd also like people's help with naming the baseships for those.
Wow great stuff. While I'm not going to claim that 100% of the physics involved will apply directly, most due to the needs of story. It is a nice description of several factors and a useful resource to start considerations from.

I may choose to alter the RP/omake thing.
Eh, whatever people think is best. Also, yeah, probably not all of physics applies, and, if/when I take a better look at it, I might just do everything completely differently (if I can), but I think it works well enough for now.

A proposal (and an idea for omakes): how about after we master some more biotic, we sponsor a galactic biotic tournament. I'm pretty sure that asari at least have some biotic based games, but we could do it more freestyle, with various challenges. As a publicity stunt. Give all participants our magi implants free (if they want to have them), the winner gets a free lifetime service and upgrades plus money plus maybe a job offer to test our new developments.

I want to lure Jack out.

Well, that should terrify that even looks at PI internal documentation...

A proposal (and an idea for omakes): how about after we master some more biotic, we sponsor a galactic biotic tournament.

A good idea, but probably better to just give a nice cash prize and not give everyone that plays free brain surgery. We do want to keep some of our tech proprietory and people might wonder about why we'd offer that.

I want to lure Jack out.

That's nice.

I'm pretty sure that at this time Jack is entirely too angry at the world to do anything other than try to crash the party, and if we try to apprehend or confine her in any way we suddenly have an angry, violence prone biotic on our hands whose raw power certainly seems capable of challenging even the greatest asari adepts.

Let's not waste our resources, shall we?

Eh, whatever people think is best. Also, yeah, probably not all of physics applies, and, if/when I take a better look at it, I might just do everything completely differently (if I can), but I think it works well enough for now.

"The age of humanity had long passed.
The endless conflict continues to match into the vast darkness of space.
Battles rage across the cold void, annihilating planets, moons and asteroids.
Cosmic obliteration for a purpose long forgotten.
Technology has been captured, assimilated, refined and transformed into brutally efficient, self replicating mechanisms of war. "

@Madfish, like some others on this thread, you only have about a quarter of a vote there. You still need Company Actions, Research die allocation, and Personal actions.

That's deliberate

For the Company actions I need to give a little more thought and I am likely to agree with another reasonable plan.

For the Research Dice I don't have time to do the probability calculations just now though I favour getting Optical Computers and then moving on to getting the last level of FRM/BB to protect our best secrets from the Reapers and their servants.

Personal actions I also need to give consideration too.

If someone wants to mix and match plans I'd suggest the following format

[ ] Plan Madfish
-[ ] Company: Plan Y
-[ ] Research: Plan Z
-[ ] Personal: Plan Y

or replace Company/Research/Personal with their own plan as needed.

Well, that should terrify that even looks at PI internal documentation...

A good idea, but probably better to just give a nice cash prize and not give everyone that plays free brain surgery. We do want to keep some of our tech proprietory and people might wonder about why we'd offer that.

We are going to be selling magi anyway. The idea to give them to competitors is to both ensure that they are in equal positions, equipment wise, and to show off how much better our product is compared to everything else on the market.

Jack, I think, would be interested, and our story might appeal to her on some level. As to getting her to stay, that's what lifetime service is for (might throw in medical treatments or something) - to create a positive connection to the company. Lots of therapy later, and I think Jack will be worth the investment.

Oh, and about giant mechs: underwater Hanar shaped mechs. Who said they have to be humanoid or designed for ground combat? Naval warfare is important, and, really, if you hide something under several kilometers of water, it'll be hard for someone in orbit to get there.

Yog's spare time hobby: Blowing up things really good.

Not sure the Megawatt per square meter one would result in total extinction. Earth has as far as we can tell been hit by gamma ray bursts in the past and it didn't wipe out all life (extinction events did occur). I'm still looking for power levels... About 500m of atmosphere really eats up the power of gamma rays. Now it would most likely shred the ozone layer destroy a lot of the atmosphere. Some microbes might make it. Maybe.

And now I really need to figure out the cost for shielding...

More points unless you want something else?

A proposal (and an idea for omakes): how about after we master some more biotic, we sponsor a galactic biotic tournament. I'm pretty sure that asari at least have some biotic based games, but we could do it more freestyle, with various challenges..

A possibility. Though it might be more relevant to ask which asari sport don't use biotics. The list will be shorter :). But yeah there's a ball sport that involves biotics and a few gladiatorial biotic sport mentioned in canon IIRC.

Wouldn't be surmised if there was a Galactic Biotic Olympics.

Welp! We known how to blow up blackholes. Won't that scare the shit out of any one breaking into Revy's files?

If there a way to make that usefull? Engery mater conversation?

At 12? I would guess no.

Even if she was out, I doubt she would attend this sort of thing anyways - she would probably already have criminal records in a few places.

Dammit @Yog, quit destroying the galaxy! :D

It's also a problem, because the only substantive difference between your partial plan and mine, @UberJJK's and @Yog's is that you are spending more money up-front on generic "security" while the rest of us are hiring more security teams and buying drones as part of our Company Actions.

Has Jack even escaped yet?
Probably not. Given the um, details of her escape, it probably won't happen for at least a couple of years.

Eh, whatever people think is best. Also, yeah, probably not all of physics applies, and, if/when I take a better look at it, I might just do everything completely differently (if I can), but I think it works well enough for now.
Hmm. A suggested plot tweak: whatever Liara has found ruins she is currently exploring (or is still buried somewhere there), gets pumped up in its level of technological sophistication/usefulness for us.

Or a more fitting bonus, considering the work that has been done: for example, +10d10 permanent extra dice for Revy's research dice pool:
Revy Shepard (+40d10 research/quarter) -> Revy Shepard (+50d10 research/quarter)
Considering that she has spent her last few years mostly inventing and researching things alongside running her company while still growing up, I could see her latest research pushing her brain to even greater heights, especially when combined with ANI.

Or maybe a smaller bonus, if that would be too OP.

Okay, so still no comments on going for space factories or using debt instruments to massively increase our rate of expansion, which is a little irksome as it's both a game-changing idea and one that is so common in the real world that there are a number of different avenues for it, many of which are entire marketplaces unto themselves:

1) Venture capital. This one's basically right out, because venture capitalists don't typically invest in established, profitable businesses like ours, and would require a substantial amount of our share equity as part of a deal, and we don't want to go down the road of taking PI public or handing over control to anyone else. Besides, I rather doubt that there is 2 trillion credits worth of venture capital in the entire Alliance. :)

2) Going public. Again, right out, but I wanted to mention it for completeness' sake, and the fact that we could probably get a rather insane amount of money together even if we only sold, say 30% of the company's equity. Given the super-massive mindshare, proven profitability, multi-tens-of-billion credit sales contracts, and intellectual property assets involved we could probably get tens of trillions of credits this way.

3) Business loans. As mentioned before, I think that our credit rating would have to be enormous, for the same reasons our share price would be several dozen if not hundreds of times our annual earnings. The strength of our Arc Reactor patent and factories alone should easily be worth 500 billion, maybe up to the 2 trillion credits I think we should be looking for; there ought to be banks lining up around the block to throw money at us after all. Loan rates around 3-6 percent interest annually, given all of PI's assets and that I intend this to be a 48-60 month loan.

4) Corporate bond issue. A bit more uncertain, and a hell of a lot more complicated than 3), but a 5-year corporate bond issue should be relatively straightforward for a finance team to set up, and could net us probably more money in total than the business loan idea. 2 trillion should be small potatoes for the galactic corporate bond market to fund, heck the Alliance alone could probably foot the bill, but the interest rate would be higher, around 6-10 percent given we'd certainly rate investor grade bond rates.

You don't give away top of the line, might as well be a national secret until we get this cleared, designed to work with a human's neural system equipment to just about anyone walking up to you. At minimum we'd have to deal with adapting the magi system to non-human physiology.

Jack, I think, would be interested, and our story might appeal to her on some level. As to getting her to stay, that's what lifetime service is for (might throw in medical treatments or something) - to create a positive connection to the company. At best she'd be highly distrustful of us, and anything that even vaguely could be misconstrued as an attempt to turn her into a lab rat would be violently responded too. She is not in anything approaching a good headspace and we do not have the means to attend to her psychological means at this time, especially with that goal. It'd be far better if she were arrested, tried and stuffed into a cell for a few months before she's assigned a psychologist to help her deal with her entirely reasonable mental problems and then get introduced as reliable experts in biotic neurology and augmentation who'd be willing to assist her.

"This is the final message I can record before launch of the ship.

If you get this message, that means that the generation starship that you currently inhabit has stopped receiving the all clear signal without a mission termination pulse.

If that is the case, I have taken it upon myself to tell you that you are one of the last splinters of humanity left in the galaxy.

I had hoped, I had dreamed of inviting you, my children, my legacy, to a strange and possibly wonderful new galaxy, but it was not to be.

If you are listening to this message, I can only warn you that we have fought a horrible enemy and lost. I must welcome you to a place with an ancient enemy, to powerful for even a galaxy to defeat.

I have given you what I can, my science, my technology, the best genes, the best knowledge.

Stay safe my children.

Grow strong.

Build up your science.

Build up your fleets.

Build up your armies.

And hopefully, you'll forgive me for my last selfish request.

Come back to the home I couldn't give you.

Destroy those who took it from you, and avenge me."

I want to lure Jack out.

Has Jack even escaped yet?

Hmm... I just had a great* idea... Upside: Jack shows up next quarter. Downside: she is even crazier. Does depend on a vote passing but I think it will pass.

*For some select definitions of great. I may want to run the idea over with someone....

Hmm... you could also advance you biotic training a bit with the omake.

At minimum we'd have to deal with adapting the magi system to non-human physiology.

Its worth noting that there are two pieces of equipment involved here. Sadly we've kinda muddled the two together. One is the implant, that the cyberware plugged into you body and needs to be optimized for each race and user. This is what allows the coordination needed for general biotics use barring being an Asari, a prodigy or a master of bio control. The actual biotic amp is a removable device that increases a biotic's power. Technically the name Magi covers both your amp and implant products. The implant would need Advanced Xenobiology to share. The amp would probably just need a port adapter if that.
