Hey, don't take away Igor being Gilgamesh, that was one of the best brain bombs of the entire quest!
Okay, I really want to show off my research here.
There's an entire Carl Jung
cosmology out there. See Carl Jung wrote this crazy dream journal esque book called the Red Books that he
never published because he thought it would cause people to think he was
crazy.
But now, fast forward into the 2000s, it was released by Carl Jung's estate, alongside his raw unedited dream journals called the Black Books.
And the contents of which are fucking wild.
Most people who play Persona know about Philemon, Carl Jung's spirit guide.
Well, Philemon is the tip of the motherfucking iceberg.
Like... Philemon was once Elijah. And Philemon will become Phanes.
Sorta.
Philemon has a goddamn
shadow. Philemon has
kids and
parents.
There's implications to this... ur-proto dream entity that was the origin of everything.
Carl Jung's own soul talks to him. Anima and animus.
I have a list. There's like a dozen of them. Izdubar is but one of them. They're all crazy.
Probably gonna tackle all this in a Professor Edogawa interlude at some point. On the to do list.
You also mentioned earlier that Nuke/Psy are more sci-fi elements, so does that mean we'll start getting Personae access to those?
Tentatively, all Plasma weapons (Plasma Grenades, etc) deal Nuclear Damage, and Laser Guns deal Psy damage. Archon has a Nuclear skill. Nuc/Psy are elements 'supported' by GGO.
Stats and how they'll be used seems...fine, for the most part. Although having STR being tied to carry weight/Persona slots seems like it would incentivize cramming the roster with high STR Personae every combat for those who really like to min-max. You could solve that issue by having only Hiyori/Lux's native STR determine that, but that would raise other issues...
Eh, I have a planned system. Basically you load Persona into a Gun. The higher that Persona's strength stat the heavier the gun they can inhabit without eating into your own carry capacity. You can load a 0 STR persona into a big gun, for example, but that eats into your base carrying capacity determined by your own STR.
Lux will be 'cheating' in that the Personas will literally carry the guns for her.
Cribbing from Shadowrun for gunplay seems like a good choice. Aside from the Bullet Line, will we be given anything in 'exchange' for loss of Smirk or Once More! given that we'll still have the title? Or will we have to earn it in GGO?
Other random thought, will you also be using Shadowrun's cover mechanics? If you don't clarify how cover works now, people will DEFINITELY raise that issue once we get into our first combat in GGO.
Nah, I'm probably not going to bother with cover. Narratively succeeding on a dodge roll will be you 'ducking into cover' or something. Might have options for you to hunker down or have enemies that are hunkering down (they don't move but have defensive bonuses) but that's more of a circumstance thing than an outright
system.
Although I am curious...given that you're axing the current upgrade system, what would Reverse Arcana and Heaven Break have done?
On a related note, when you say nerf, does that mean that stats are going to be trimmed for Persona we frequently used across the board in exchange for Persona we haven't used getting buffs?
Reverse Arcana is just the initial idea of Reverse Persona (ie, sacrificing a Persona to your Shadow) in the Two Souls route.
And Heaven Break I didn't planned at all. I just wanted to throw in a cool name as a placeholder and figure out the rank 5 upgrade later. That is, uh, what I do for like 90% of the stuff in this quest. Throw out random hooks and worry about them later. The One Piece strategy of world building!
And nerf is changing up a few skills and adjusting stats to account for the new system. I plan on keeping the character of each Persona intact.
