This reminds me, @inverted_helix does Mami have any of these specialties? What can we train her in, with regards to tandem-casting?

Thematically, Mami is probably closest to a barrier specialist, with a special focus on capture and material manipulation.

She also appears to have a better ability to enchant things, though that might just be due to experience.

Well, they might have already figured it out from when they sniped Kyouclone in the first contact event.

They didn't snipe Kyouclone, they snipped the real Kyouko.

Also, they fact that they are trying again and gathering materials says to me that they have tried this before and failed hard enough that they lost much of the equipment used in the attempt.

That or their equipment was one sue (like their magic items)

Changed my hunting plan over to the Seto-supported version. I think I was over-committing before, because the 0.5 vet reduction still leaves me at exactly 53/53 vets.

I'll be updating my plan tonight. Can't do it today because after posting I'm offline for the next 8 hours.

Layered single spells like this allow for multiple hits to be tanked like this, or for a single very strong hit to be tanked (like when the Class 3 busted through 6 vet-cast shields at once).

3 vet cast barriers, not 6.

3. How practical do you think giving away teleport crystals (or whatever we want to call them) will be? The idea is, you give them out during negotiations and tell whoever you're talking to that if they don't want them, they should give them back. But if they trust them at all, use it when they have no choice because it will save their life.

It will teleport them to a preset location and we'll probably need to assign a healer to that location, but it'll save lives.

Might be possible with single greens (or maybe the girls in the rural areas?)

Wait a second, I just had a terrible thought. Class threes are so powerful mostly because their adaptation enables them to wield powers similar to those of MGs. Does that mean that when they engage in infighting with other demons, they cause further anti-meguca adaptations, and thus increase demon strength?

From memory, Class 3 demons try to avoid fighting other demons at all.

Instead of swapping places with another girl, how about swapping places with a bomb.

If that doesn't destroy the balance, yes, good, if it does, something something about 'swap' magic requiring two things of approximately equal 'magical weight' to be swapped.

On the other hand, being able to summon instant replacement shields would be a pretty good first step for item summoning and if we got our hands on more... illicit weapons it'd be a good way to keep that sort of capability on the downlow. Concealed carry rather than open carry. :V

Not that I foresee us suddenly stumbling upon a convenient cache of firearms, but with all these rumors flying around, probably best to think ahead.

I doubt that most girls would trust the teleport until we've built up a significantly positive relationship with them. Healing items or barriers, on the other hand, would probably be quite welcome.

The thing is, I don't think it's possible for a random magical girl to tell what it is any enchanted item actually does. We can hand out healing potions like candy, but we'll run into the exact same problem of trust that we'd run into if we handed out teleport items: either they'll use them because they trust us, or they won't use them because they don't trust us.

A teleport item is, at least, going to be more useful than a barrier or a healing potion because by the time you need it, you'll probably need it more than one-off healing. Cheaper too.

One can hope! Not sure what to do with the somewhat bigger groups. Offer to swap knowledge if they've made any progress of their own?

Ideally all our groups would be researching different avenues of magic, and then we share them with everyone and everyone gets stronger as a whole - but that's probably not what will happen in reality.

Hmmm.

I have no idea if that makes sense on a basic magic level, but narratively... yeah, it kind of works.

Items can easily be tested to demonstrate that they work the way that we claim. The problem is that teleportation is a trust exercise in and of itself. Most girls would not feel safe being teleported to an untrusted location. We can offer teleportation items to anyone who wants one, but I suspect that most of them would not take us up on it.

The items are one-shots though. Even if we say they're multi-use, they only have our word that all the spells are the same.

I have an idea what if we find a way to gradually drop the masquerade over the period of several years so we can get government support.

Basically, the teleport crystal runs into the conundrum of 'I don't want it, but I might need it, and better to have and not need it, then need it and not have it.' You're handing them out as a lifeline and I suggest it because it's probably the most cost-effective method of keeping outside puella safe unless (and this feels unlikely to me) the cost to make these spell triggers is negligible. I sincerely don't know if it's practical to hand out anything else.

When your life is literally a constant series of life and death battles, being offered a 'get out of this life-and-death-battle-for-free' card I'm not sure how many would be able to resist, even if it does turn out to be a trap. At this point I am pretty sure only a handful of our characters have not seen death before. Everyone out there except the greenest of the greens will.

I mean a suspicious mind can invent all sorts of possibilities. Tracking magic has been cast on it, so it's best to ditch them ASAP - it'll explode after a set period of time, best to ditch it ASAP - it can read your thoughts, gotta get rid of it now, etc. etc. etc. Seeing who accepts is probably a good litmus test for people that are going to be more easily swayed to join a big group: those willing to hold onto it probably fear demons more than they fear you and that makes them good candidates to try and recuit anyway.

The items are one-shots though. Even if we say they're multi-use, they only have our word that all the spells are the same.
Let's say we have 5 red balls and each of them feels the same to magical senses and we say that each ball contains a healing spell. We hand over the balls and tell them to chose one at random, and we use it to demonstrate that it does heal. Anybody who is not paranoid to an insane degree should be quite confident that the other 4 balls will also contain healing spells.

Kyuubey is hugely against this, to the point where I suspect he'd put a bounty on our heads if we tried, but yeah, it'd be the easiest way to solve a lot of our problems.

It'd also create a startling number of problems too, so, lot of give and take here.

So you mean that ferret bastard would have us killed just for revealing the secret.
I don't remember him being this obsessed with secrecy in the series.

A number of short strips, generally tacked onto manga releases, showed a few things regarding the nature of Kyubey's relationship with humanity. Relevantly, one such strip shows Madoka making a wish that the world at large knew that magical girls existed, again despite Kyubey's insistence that it's a bad idea. The last strip shows a city skyline in flames.

Can I see the exact strip?

More importantly, in this quest, we've been explicitly told it's a bad idea to break the masquerade and the Incubators formed their current policy in reaction to that.

What happened the last time someone broke the masquerade?
Kyuubey on the Masquerade
Humans have reacted poorly to previous attempts to reveal magic to the point that it is considered an intractable defect. Humans fear what they do not understand, and they lash out against what they fear. While emotions are useful in allowing for magic they are quite a negative influence in other aspects. While some can come to accept the existence of magic, others destroy their lives and those of the contracted. Tail swish.

Even in such cases where they do not react in a directly negative fashion they often find it unacceptable that their young must lay their lives on the line, particularly the progenitors of the girls in question. This however is usually a self correcting state as without contracted fighting the demon population the human population inevitably collapses. It has been described by many contracted as a kindness for them not to know, but it is more efficient for them not to know as the intervention of such individuals is counterproductive.

Extensive experiments have been done on the matter and the most efficient result has been to enforce a veil of secrecy which is relatively simple to maintain against inferior human technology and biology. It is projected to remain the most efficient for several hundred years based on the current rate of human technological development. Actions which jeopardize this efficiency are not condoned.

I do not consume pancakes and have no basis for a value judgement.

Took me a surprising amount of thought to come up with that explanation.

The police don't think anything about us anymore, that's what Kyubey charged us 35 grief cubes for. We just have to stay under the radar from here on out.
I think that we should not have to hide from everyone because an alien that is known for lying and concealing facts from us told us too.

Then hide because while Kyubey only lies by omission, people lie outright. Telling anyone about this, especially high-ranking government officials, only leads to black ops, brainwashing, deliberate attempts to provoke girls to activate powers that will specifically assist them... All it takes is one man drunk on power, knowing that as long as he doesn't act too far out of line, Kyubey won't notice him, and you've created a nightmare scenario within the nightmare scenario that is PMMM.

So basically we have to live hand to mouth financially for the rest of our lives.
