In the Mind of a Green Sun Prince (Exalted/Nasuverse)

Not super knowledgeable on Exalted lore, but could Kirigitsu potentially make his way to the shadowlands/underworld in our current setting?

if the underworld still exists in this setting, and I remember correctly, its as easy as going to a graveyard at night and spending some essence.
Well, to the best knowledge of the mages, barring stuff from the Age of the Gods, there is no afterlife. People die, their souls return to the Root/Akasha, and eventually reincarnate.

Suggests some possibilities.
A. Mages don't know about Lethe, and think it's the Root
B. Underworld was destroyed, or sealed away at some point.
C. This is not Creation, but some other existence, possibly even Gaia herself.

@Walker of the Yellow Path
Is Type-Moon Gaia and Primordial Gaia the same thing, or connected in some way?

Or worse, he might end up like the Shirou in Birth By Fire, who's future counterpart ended up an Avenger class hero instead (or maybe in addition to) a counter-guardian.

[X] "So what do you intend to do now, Kiritsugu? Go after your daughter? Or perhaps check up on the boy from before? Or something else? I might normally make a suggestion, but I confess that I remain somewhat ignorant of your overall situation."
Whats so bad about the Shirou from birth by fire? I haven't read it.

Whats so bad about the Shirou from birth by fire? I haven't read it.

He ends up being raised by Kotomine instead of Kiritsugu. This means no Avalon, no Arturia, and that his Incarnation (Element and Origin) are fire instead of sword.

Shirou himself ends up fine, but apparently if it weren't for his future self being summoned during the 5th war, he would have become an insane psychopath with a reality marble based on the concept of destruction. His future self is an Avenger class Servant, might be a counter-guardian, and has a mentality more or less equivalent to The Joker in the Dark Knight movies, with the power to back it up. its also hinted that Kotomine raised and trained him deliberately to turn him into a monster that could destroy the world.

EDIT:

Both versions are battle maniacs, and Avenger went around deliberately trolling people during the war including: sending a spring loaded cream pie with a live incendiary grenade to Gil, Setting Rin's school on fire, cutting the breaklines on a bank robber's car, and this snippet

Unfortunately, before he could reach the last step of
his grand master plan, a tingling sensation formed on the back of his skull. A
Servant was near.

Ah well, I'll take care of it later, he thought to himself, materializing his
body in preparation. Now, he'd get to have his first fight in ages. He had to
tell Rin first of course, but there should be a better way than just sending her
a message. What if… yes, what better way to do so than to launch a first
strike so impressive that it could be seen for blocks? But what should it be?
Knock a building down on top of them? Just blow the whole area up? Strap
countless explosives to a person, light them on fire, and turn them into a
massive screaming grenade? That last one could be tricky. He'd have to find
someone small enough-

"Excuse me, mister." Avenger was snapped out of his thoughts by a small voice
and a tugging on his cloak. He looked down to find a small boy wearing second
hand clothes, a baseball cap and a bulging backpack looking up at him. He
flinched back a bit when he saw Avenger's eyes, but he still said "I-I'm kinda
lost. Do you know where the bus stop is?"

Behind his mask, Avenger grinned.

... (couple paragraphs later)

"…aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAH!"

Before anyone could react, Avenger fell from what Rin could only assume was the
adjacent roof and landed hard in a three point landing in the alleyway. This
wouldn't be too odd if not for the screaming 6 year old boy that was currently
riding his shoulders and had a death on the Servant's head.

When the kid finally stopped screaming his lungs out and started gasping for
air, Avenger stood and said "And that is what we call parkour!"

The rest of the occupants of the alley were rendered speechless by this
bewildering development save for Mika. "Masomi! I've been looking everywhere for
you! Are you alright?"

The boy took a few more deep breaths before a massive grin formed on his face,
and he threw up his arms and said "I wanna go again I wanna go again!"

The little girl scowled at this. "No! We're not supposed to be out this late!
We're going back home!"

"No! I don't wanna go back!" The boy protested. "I hate it there! All the
grownups are stupid and all the other kids are jerks!" He wrapped his arms
around Avenger's head again. "I'm stickin' with Igni-chan from now on! We're
gonna go wherever we want, and no one's gonna tell us what to do!"

"Yeah, what he said!" Avenger yelled in agreement, joining in on the
childishness for some reason. "We don't need no home! We're going hit the road
and see what happens! Who cares that Masomi will probably die horribly at some
point!"

"Yeah, I- wait what?" The boy said.

Avenger continued. "I mean, he could starve to death, be hit by a bus, die of an
easily treatable infection, eaten by a wild animal, and let's not forget child
predators! But those are a small price to pay for freedom!"

"B-but you'd keep me safe, right?" The boy said, now much less sure of himself.

"Nah, I'm not really the protecting type." The white haired man said with a
wave. "Don't worry though. I'll totally give you a knife in case anything tries
to mess you up. Remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Or cripples
you horribly both physically and mentally for the rest of your life. One of the
two, really."

The boy's face drained of blood at this, and after a moment's pause he said in a
small voice "…I wanna go home now."

We need to make him remember to pick up Shirou at the hospital or Kirei will pick him up, and shirou will become a mana battery for gilgamesh.

We could turn Shirou into an essence user. I believe all solar-levels have enlightenment charms that turns mortals into essence users (if inferior to actual exalts). Cecelynes wish charms can also give anyone nearly anything (charms, backgrounds, skills, attributes), and things like eating demon locusts/using By Rage Recast allow for beneficial mutations (I think even infernal charms also?). Without the supermote of exaltation, Shirou might also keep his traditional magic, making him a very usefull apprentice.

However Shirou at this point is too young to be of aid in rescuing Ilya. However if we end up fighting in the HG war when it arrives in 10 years, Essence using Shirou with access to Terrestrial Martial Arts, Terrestrial Sorcery, VEE-boosted abilities and traditional magic could be most helpfull.

When I've done sorcerers with my group, the Trial of Sacrifice is the final part of the Training Time for buying the Sorcery Charm.

Since I don't like having a charm which does nothing but allow you to get other stuff, buying the your first Sorcery Initiation for that Circle of Sorcery also comes with one spell of that Circle, save for Solar Primordial Circle Sorcery.

So the previous sacrifice does not apply and we still have to sacrifice something in order to buy the charm? Anyone have any ideas on what Kiritsugu could sacrifice? The best sacrifices improve you someway by abandoning something that holds you back.

Has anyone implemented any alternatives to default Torment? I'd like to see them if I can. I'm going to ignore the 'fucks over Intimacies as well' part of Torment (Though the image of a raging beserker but completely ineffectual Illya is cute.), but unless someone can find me a better alternative, Beserk Anger mind plague will affect Kiritsugu when his Limit hits ten.

I know that EarthScorpion made a custom torment in his Green Sun Illuminates The Void story. Which was a Cecelyne torment of having a breakdown upon seeing law broken through pure might. You could ask in the exalt thread for suggestions: Tabletop - General Exalted Thread | Page 527

Was it Malfeas or Adorjani torment again?

Eh, I think he actually means learning Devil-Tiger charms, which iirc, pretty much kills Azzaria anyway, by the time you hit the end of the chain...

Eh, the whole Devil-Tiger thing could be homebrewed and the coadjutor turned into one of the newborn third circle souls or somesuch.

Devil Tigers are too much of a hassle in making charms.

Becoming Devil-Tiger does allow you to become an immortal (important since GSP have very short lifespans for exalts) titan, with an exaltation fueling a fully primordial. Basically becoming primordial 2.0. The concept is pretty cool, IMHO.

As for Charms, I don't really see why you can't just keep the ones you already have. Since Devil-Tigers explicitly are still powered by an exaltation shard and are more advanced 2.0 versions of titans, I don't see why you would need to lose any charms from other Yozi. Just homebrew it and say that you can freely use all charms (including excellencies) from other Yozi still, because the GSP exaltation is still there in the new titan.

So really, the only custom charms truly needed would be First Kiritsugu excellency (and Kiritsugu-caste in the later charms). The rest of Kiritsugu-charmset could be taken at leisure (or ignored if its a hassle). Though I do like Earthscorpions idea of not having it be an instant change upon learning a single charm, but rather forming a soul hierarchy slowly.

Regardless, for Devil-Tigers to become relevant in this story, we would have to reach essence 5 and get an ascendancy mantle. Unless the scope of this quest is larger than expected, it will never become an issue.

We can't respire essence in underworld though, which means Kiritsugu would be pretty weak there. Not sure its wise to visit yet, even if we find a way. We should try and start a cult to supply us with essence, or perhaps a hearthstone before we go adventuring in places filled with death-essence.

There is one thing that I wonder if we should try to something about.

We (the players) are not controlling Kiritsugu directly. We are controlling the Unwoven Coadjutor in his head. In the current situation, I wonder how much Kiritsugu would be even willing to trust and listen to us? Let alone do the things that we suggest.

Kiritsugu does not have the core books with all the absurdly powerfull charms and the like, and so far he has only figured out how to use Loom Snarling Deception. The exaltation also destroyed his ability to wield standard magic, so he might well view the whole thing as a downgrade.

I support going to fetch Shirou before Kotomine finds him (especially since Avalon is still inside him). However eventually we should have Azzaria tell Kiritsugu about all the potential benefits of having an Unwoven Coadjutor in his head. If we know about it, we should also tell him as much as we can about the exaltation and its powers in general (also about sorcery). You know, get him to trust and listen to Azzaria (which is to say, us), so that when we (players) make suggestions through Azzaria, Kiritsugu won't just ignore us.

Theres also the fact that if this quest uses EarthScorpions homebrew version of Unwoven Coadjutor, then the benefits of reaching level 5 would be great.

Mentor for any attributes, abilities and virtues the UC has (he has a lot). Essence levels of "free" speciality dots that are somehow related to UC. Access to UCs resources/cults/backing. Demons lulled by UC, lowering MDV of demons. Two bonus dice to all perception, awareness and join battle rolls.

And at level 5, reducing limit by acting on the motivation of the UC or if thats not possible, doing something the UC-like. Possibly playing music? Something we could also use Malfeas excellency on.

And that does not even get into charms. Fourth-Soul Devil Domain for example would basically give us a "bag of holding".

Btw, @Walker of the Yellow Path. Did Kiritsugu gain any features from becoming a GSP? I believe minor physical aspects of the demon should manifest. Did you ignore that, or has Kiritsugu just not noticed (which would be possible if he has say prehensile hair)?

Fuck the stupid short Lifespans. Infernals live as long as Solars do.

Kiritsugu hasn't noticed that his hair has a constant slight movement, as if in an unseen breeze.

"The boy." Kiritsugu says. "I saved his life using Avalon. I need to check on him and make sure that he's recovered."

Your eyes widen, as knowledge of Avalon seeps into your mind. But something else follows along with that. "So you're considering adopting him?"

He nods. "I'll adopt him and leave him in Fujimura's care. Then I'll go get Illya."

"Alright. So who are our enemies?"

His mind fills with the relevant info. Jubstacheit Von Einzbern, The Einzbern Family, Combat Homunculi, Bounded Fields, Germany. The Magus Association, Dead Apostles, London. The Holy Church, Executors. The Holy Grail War, Servants, Masters, Noble Phantasms.

"That's rather a lot to take in."

He nods, and stands, and begins searching through the house. He begins removing weapons and ammo from the walls and floor.

You think on the upcoming invasion. "First priority is dealing with the Bounded Fields. If you're correct, the Einzbern will use a Bounded Field to protect their home. Those without active Magic Circuits will not even notice the area, whilst those who do will simply have to contend with a powerful physical barrier and the staggering array of magical traps and alarms that'll hone in on whoever pierces the first one." You say.

He shakes his head. "I'm still unsure on how to defeat that one. I helped improve it, when I was working with the Einzberns, and I no longer have the arsenal to break it with direct explosive force."

He stops, as he removes a few packages of C4. "I do, actually have the arsenal, but that would be all the explosives I had."

"You don't have to break it." You say. "You remember when you did the Shadow thing?"

"That's just a disguise, isn't it?" Kiritsugu asks.

"It can fool all mundane attempts at scrutiny, and has a fair chance at beating most magical attempts." You say.

He grunts. He sounds skeptical. "I could also give myself into the Einzberns. Claim that I wish to repent for the sin they know I did."

"Get through the Bounded Field by being invited, and then kill them?" You ask. "That would bypass most of it. But they would rather kill you than accept you."

He nods.
What do you suggest?

Not like it really matters much in this quest. Unless you really plan to make huge timeskips or whatever. Likewise with Devil Tiger path.

Kiritsugu hasn't noticed that his hair has a constant slight movement, as if in an unseen breeze.

Cool. We should mention it to him and explain what it can do. Looks like it can extend 10 yards, function as multiple "tentacles", and are strong enough to support a persons weight which makes climbing with your hair a simple thing.

I believe that resisting Unnatural mental influence requires both willpower and a point of limit. We also don't know how often such resistance has to be done. Something that would block mental attacks would be helpfull. Are there any anti-mental influence charms available to us? Impervious Primacy Mantle would work, but thats essence 3.

A surprise negator such as Threat-Monitoring Excitement would also be handy if it works on traps and such. Not sure it does?

Loom-Snarling Deception fools fate, but not magical senses (You need the next one in chain for that).

---

Is the area around the castle a place of physical desolation?

Intended to add this in story post, but I'll mention it now.

Loom Snarling Deception uses your Manipulation + Larceny + (Essence) Successes in the Charm Roll off for defeating Magical Senses.
