What's the most Cringeworthy Alternate History you've ever read?

Can we please stop talking about communism? Nobody ever agrees on that topic and nobody ever changes their mind.

Can't we get back to AH?

Stop: Cease all Off-Topic Chatter At Once
cease all off-topic chatter at once The communism/California derail has gone on long enough. It stops now, or else people will find themselves being sent on mandatory vacations away from this thread.

If you truly wish to continue this tangent, either start a dedicated thread for it, or take it to PMs.

Thank you for your attention. Carry on and have a nice day

I bet America would've won if they had a ace combat protagonist on their side

Oh right, continuing the long Japanese tradition of "what are logistics, lol?"

I love how that story magics up all this extra industry and (educated) population for Japan and tries to pretend it's because of one guy changing history for less than 40 years.

If Yamamoto really was reborn and had his memories I'm betting he'd be trying to push Japan on a path towards allying with the US.

The funniest part was that it wasn't just Yamamoto; about a dozen or so OTL prominent figures got the same treatment, and they met up and formed a secret organization to change the course of history. How just a dozen people did that, don't ask me.

Also, there is Heinrich von Hitler who has psychic powers to sense the future (thus why he manages to survive this world's version of Vakyrie), and apparently the Illuminati is behind FDR and the US's plan to DOMINATE THE WORLD.

It's shit in general. The ironic part is that sometimes I feel that the author did this as a take that against nationalists, since all of his other SciFi works are actually pretty progressive and tame.

I think I also remember that in the spin off for that, the insanity of Great Britain being saved from Operation Sea Lion by the Japanese Atlantic Fleet happens.

.... HOW DOES YAMAMOTO GOING BACK IN TIME ENABLE JAPAN TO PRODUCE FUCKING MODERN ERA FIGHTER JETS!? HOW DOES THE REST OF THE WORLD SEEM TO BE STUCK AT OTL LEVEL ERAS OF TECH!? DID EVERYONE BUT JAPAN START DRINKING BUCKETS OF LEAD THE MOMENT YAMAMOTO WAS REBORN!?

Japan should've gone undergone full deimperialization and made to acknowledge all it's atrocities like. Then maybe this kinda crap never would exist.

I guess you missed this part:

So in other words, some of those other people knew that jets existed and had knowledge of up to the 1960s. Thus, they were in "position" to push for such outlandish tech. (At least, that's the logic)

Oh, and another thing: the more outlandish stuff are for the spin-off series, Fleet of the Rising Sun. That's the story of how the Japanese European Expeditionary Fleet sailed around Africa to Europe. The main series is still slightly better in sticking to "5 years ahead."

My hot take is that most dystopias are cringey and boooooring.

"It's bad because the Nazis killed everyone :("

Okay? And? There's nothing of substance there. Dystopias only become interesting when they include actual commentary on the systems that created them, otherwise it's just grimdark circlejerking.

Frankly, I find most dystopia's boring because it's like...you can't come up with a way to make the world better so you default to making things worse? Case in point, there was a thread on AH.com which was literally 'how do you make WW2 worse' or some such.

The most devastating war in human history, that killed coming up on 100 million people, and your first thought is 'imma make it worse'?

Maybe I'm just too much of an idealist at heart. *shrug*
