What's the most Cringeworthy Alternate History you've ever read?

'Globalism' is also often used as a antisemitic dogwhistle.
Quick question, is globalism and globalization the same thing? Because I'm thinking of the modern trend of linking the global economy into one system, which some call "coca colonization" and leads to western businesses dominating local ones

Globalization is what you're describing.

Globalism is the alt right conspiracy.

"Globalism" is like "Cultural Marxism" in that it is a way for Right Wingers to get Anti-Semitic while pretending they aren't, albeit frequently in the manner of a person wearing Groucho glasses pretending they are in a disguise.

Ah fuck. I thought it was a legitimate academic phrase for things like America founding the UN, and being a global policeman and stuff. (It's probably not but let it be known there's flaws to it too)

If the shadowy cabal that's ruling the world from behind the scenes had a signifiucant percentage of observant Jews within its ranks then they probably wouldn't have made the previous British Prime Minister skullfuck a dead pig to get his foot in the door, that's all I can say.

Are y'all gonna start hating him because of that too, like the guy who said being a libertarian right meant he was fascist? Besides trump is only buisness man slimey

I've learned a lot about geopolitics from the footnotes of alt history maps
The man literally just tried to have the DoJ argue trans people's existence is a Title IX violation.

The author of that tweet is being rather conservative about the ramifications of that argument, just hiring a trans person becomes a major liability and would effectively disenfranchise us from the work place. In effect criminalizing us merely for existing.

After this and the child concentration camps and a myriad of other things I don't find it unfair to compare him to Nazis and other assorted Fascists and bigots. Nor condemn his followers and base as unethical and vile.

Crineworthy alt-history timelines and alt-history timelines written by someone with a really big ideological axe to grind do have significant overlap.
Alt-Hist is often a form of revisionism. People have grudges over how one side or another handled a past situation, even though it "should have" gone a certain direction.

I'm not trying to continue the Derail with this but the Derail did remind me of this TL.

A Giant Sucking Sound. Which is about Ross Perot winning his presidential Campaign. It's been a while since I've read it so I'm going a bit off memory here but while I don't recall the TL being awful there are things that are rather...what inducing. Like Perot's freedom party having a very bizarrely wide net. Jon Stewart and John McCain in the same party? It also has Trump becoming Governor of New York and then eventually President as a Freedom Party Candidate. I think this was written well before 2016 so I don't think the TL's trump acts much like our president. It's him being Governor that I find very cringy since Trump burned pretty much every bridge he had in New York a long time ago.

More than that, how it uses violence and terrorism is a bit uncomfortable for a variety of reasons. And Ross Perot's policies should have sunk the Freedom Party hard.

Sounds like a fairly typical sustained TL with a lot of dystopian and just plain shock value "swerves".
I do have to wonder why people think Dystopia is best route to take a fic. Like The New Order is my favorite mod of a game and it's not even out yet and while it starts plenty dystopic, to me the interesting routes are where things get better like good routes for Orenburg.

I do have some thoughts about that, but they're long, rambly, and intensely political. Instead, I'll just say that art reflects life.

I've mentioned before:

I find dystopia the lowest common denominator of AH. It's quick and easy to make things worse. And it lets you ape more popular works.

It's much harder to make a believable timeline that is better* than OTL. At least, without being cringeworthy.

*opinions differ on what is 'better' of course.

IMO the problem isn't so much making a timeline that you think is better, but one that at least a reasonable subset will think is better.

Am i bad saying Calbear TL called The Anglo/American – Nazi War is the most cringeworthy Alternate History i ever have read, sometimes i feel it only keeps going on AH.com is due Calbear being a mod there, if it was written by anybody else he would (that is how i think) would be banned.
