It's an odd peeve, especially since other MMO's have had speaking characters, like KOTR.

Oddest peeve, or did you mean "oddest decision by Bungie?" There were even awkward scenes where someone speaks directly to your Guardian and Ghost interrupts and speaks for you. Hell it would have been better if he didn't speak for you, because the way that was done, makes your character feel just complete devoid of any character at all. It's not like you can't have silent protagonists. Link being the most obvious example.

The Rookie from Halo 3: ODST. "Sometimes it pays to be the strong, silent type."

So, is this where I say that Clicker Heroes 2 seems promising to me and that I believe the full game will be worth $30?

L2 interlude was pretty good when it came out and had a good run.

Still Releasing new servers all the time for L2 addicts in not just beating a dead horse but [insert comparison here] of the basest sort.

RNG drop rates should never be used as a gating mechanism or barrier for important stuff, such as progressing the story.

I'm looking at you, Atelier Annie.

Destiny 2 locked 6 of the 9 subclasses behind RNG drops. My brother had all 3 Titan subclasses before he got to Io, but I was almost raid ready before I got a subclass drop.

This is why that game is bad compared to the main ateliers.

Every time people talk about how the Atelier games are like, I mention Annie, and the response is either "never heard of it" or "that was an exception", especially with regards to "oh, the Atelier games are very fair and will never screw you over into unwinnable conditions through RNG".

Atelier Annie is still an Atelier game, and it still exists, no matter how much people might want to dismiss it.

Which is a shame, because the rest of the game was decent, at least for me. It was just the one single request that needed a monster drop that blocked me entirely, regardless of what the guides which went "you'll get it easily, unless you're really unlucky" said.

I dunno what you're trying to say herre. It is a spinoff and I think it wasn't even made wholly by Gust.

Even Gust pretended it never existed. Annie won't appear in the newly announced anniversary game where every alchemist from the franchise's history will appear in one game.

It's a continuing rant of mine about how a lot of people in online discussions like to try to be clever or funny by pretending that such and such piece of media somehow doesn't exist, even when it clearly does, just because they don't like it. It's not actually funny, and it's just incredibly frustrating when I want to discuss the issue in good faith.

Atelier Annie seems to get this a lot. Other games to receive this treatment include Star Control 3, Ace Combat Assault Horizon, Master Of Orion 3 (which I've never played), Sonic Chronicles (in the context of games made by Bioware), and X-Com Enforcer. Obviously it's fine to acknowledge that they're bad games (if they are), but at least acknowledge that they exist and have the franchise name in their title, rather than dismissing them and pretending that they don't count somehow.

Even when the franchize name in their title and possibly genre are the only things that connects them to the franchize in question? Because, well, I really don't like in-name-only sequels that try to just ride off of the series' popularity and end up harming it instead.

Huh? I'm just stating the facts.

There's nothing to discuss anyway. We both agree it's a bad thing.

Speaking of X-COM, controversy of the day; I actually quite liked The Bureau in general but in particular I think the meta twisting it does at the end really elevates it and is the kind of thing I've always longed to see a videogame do.

I actually liked the Asaru bit and actually consider it my personal headcanon for the Commander of later XCOMs.

Hey I don't have any controversial opinions to post I just wanted to post this screenshot I found funny.

The game is Fallout: New Vegas 2 if anyone's wondering.

You mentioned that you didn't know what I meant, so I clarified. It's one of those rants I think I've mentioned before on this forum, but I can't remember if it was in this thread, or in the Unpopular Opinions In Fiction thread. So I don't mind re-clarifying it again just to be safe.

In any case, I don't know why the notion that "RNG should not be a gating barrier to important story progression" is apparently unpopular, given the sheer number of dismissive comments I've encountered about it in guides and tips. "You shouldn't encounter problems unless you have bad luck" isn't very helpful if I end up having that curiously common run of bad luck, and the only advice that gets given in that circumstance is "oh well, too bad, sucks to be you".

It's one thing if the RNG can somehow be manipulated to swing into the player's favour, which is how a lot of game types work (eg XCom). It's another if it's entirely just "save and reset until the drop/event happens", which tests nothing but patience.

Probably? I'm considering refunding No Man's Sky for it. Not because I don't like NMS (as far as I can tell, its gameplay is looking at pretty, repetitive things and making numbers go up, exactly like clicker heroes 2), but because I can only run it on low settings without my computer wailing like it wants to die. Plus they had the gall to charge an entire 6 dollars more than their lowest ever price. Unforgivable.

Actually, am I weird in usually running games on low settings just to make fan noise less? Maybe I should make fan noise a priority next time I look into upgrading.

Emergency note - a lot of people jump to vacuuming their computer when they hear this.

Google "vacuuming my computer" before you try it. Trust me.
I know you're supposed to use those compressed air cans, but thanks for the warning.

e:
[Hello Games] hunkered down in silence and refused to talk to anyone.
For some actual controversy, I fully understand blaming them for lying and all that, but after the reaction they got after release I don't think anyone with a shred of empathy in their bodies can blame them for not talking to anyone for a while.

I don't think that silence should have lasted anywhere near as long as it did, though. At least the recent Waypoint interview is a good read.
