remeber when a game called one step from eden, a megaman battle network like basically , got a patch that made the game a bit easier their were people who complained. Like one person basically said something along the lines of "if someone isn't able to s rank Bass XX then they shouldn't play this game." God that sort of sentiment makes me sick, espcially since their isn't a lot of megaman battle networks likes out their and most of them are made for this kind of person in mind. I wouldn't complain about a game being tough like that except battle networks likes are fucking rare, like amount of projects with this style can be counted on two hands.

Battle network itself was kind of smart in that the main game reltively easy going and leaves the hard stuff to the post game (post game is a bit flawed since you need to collect all the battle chips to even acess it but that a complaint for another day.). Basically the people even played the post game is a very niche and small group of an already niche fanbase, be nice if someone actually made a game of this style that was actually a reasonable difficulty.
So, I played that game with its "easier" mode, and all it did was highlight to me that the game was not made to be made easier.

Slowing down gameplay just revealed that it is a pure memorization game, where the only way to know how enemies act is to have faced them before and remembered the pattern, because they made it without any telegraphing animations to show when an attack will hit.
At full speed there is no time for that, but it basically makes slowing things down a dubious solution when the problem was actually that I didn't know the game wanted me to memorize everything.

Like dog why are you getting on here to tell everyone that you think Tati Gabrielle looks like Gollum. Instead of trying to fathom the shallow brainpans of career culture warriors you should say some of this shit out loud to yourself

This is gonna be a rather lukewarm or even ice cold take depending on how you see it.

While I can see what "chuds" are saying when discussing on western female character designs, like someone makes a meme about Mary Jane's chin and I'm like "ah, yeah, that's funny".

But when I view them in isolation, they don't look bad. Like, up until that aforementioned Mary Jane meme, I didn't really know why people were hating on the design and even after I was like "meh". I think I stated either here or somewhere else that the main character of Star Wars: Outlaws had a really good 80's movie Sigourney Weaver, but I look at a chud take, go "yeah, I can see why you feel that way", then go about my day.

I bring this up because of the recent reveals for Ciri and Mun sparked some debates and while the Mun reactions fall into that "yeah, I can see why you feel that way" territory, I can't say the same for Ciri.

Like, I'm trying to see what's wrong with her face and I'm at Google Images where she's sandwiched between her Witcher 3 counterpart and her Netflix counterpart and I just can't. I've seen a picture of Mun's head replaced with Gollum and laughed, but I can't really see what's wrong with the Ciri face.
I have no idea how you thought posting this was going to work out for you frankly. What was your exit strategy here?

Everyone else has already clowned on you for that last paragraph, so I'll focus on the rest of it.

What bothers me about the continual tides of vitriol vis a vis female character designs in Western games is that a large amount of the time they're bitching about the characters looking like actual women.

Like, there was an upsurge of hate over Li Mei in Mortal Kombat 1 for having the audacity to look like an actual Asian woman and not an anime interpretation of one. Or the rage over Aloy having peach-fuzz facial hair in the second Horizon game even though 1) women actually have that and 2) she is neither from a place nor a culture where grooming it would be a thing.

I'm not the first person to make this point (Shaun for example had an excellent video about the fake outrage around Stellar Blade) but a common framing I've seen around this issue is that the people screeching about "western character designs" are coomers who can't let go of porn and I think that isn't quite correct.

On one level I understand why people jump to that, they do tend to be coomers and their standards do tend to essentially be "what if Overwatch/Bioshock SFM porn was the ideal way to design women" but I feel that misses that the forest for the trees. Horniness on its own doesn't explain their behavior. Logically speaking if you're a hyper-horny dude you can just... find porn. Actual coomers aren't going to be screeching on Twitter about some random design they don't like, they'll swimming in the ocean of smut that is the internet. Or heck, just following all the 18+ artists on Twitter. Not only can do horny people (male or otherwise) support a diverse group of designs but even if they don't care about it they almost certainly have better ways to spend their time.

Hostility to the existence of non-supermodel protagonists speaks to far more then just sexual desire. It's about enforcing hegemonic cultural standards where the only form of femininity permitted is one that is maximally designed for straight men. It's just sexism, plain and simple. I think focusing on that is probably better. Make it clear that they're not the way they are because they're "too horny" or anything that could fit in their narrative of opposing puritanism, frame them as weirdoes who can't handle women.

This isn't necessarily a truth bomb or something. People do criticize their very obviously warped attitudes towards women, however there's a comparable amount of people who present their behavior as a problem of horniness and that's a misguided way to frame the issue.

(this isn't aimed at anyone's post in particular, just something I've been thinking about- particularly post Shaun video)

That video gave me psychic damage because he claimed to watch 2 or 3 episodes of Danmachi and confidently claimed it was "Trite Shit" with little artistic value :anger: :V

(But seriously Danmachi doesn't put it's best foot forward in those first episodes but c'mon Shawn, it's popular with a wide variety of people for a reason)
Lowest common denominator?

Oof. I quite enjoy the DanMachi series as a fantasy story with videogame trappings, but I suppose I can see why those jumping aboard now vs back when the series premiered might be leery. LitRPG is a bit controversial as genre go, among some crowds, and we've had a whole bunch of light novels and anime adaptions using it since DanMachi premiered.

Y'know, having read a whole bunch of DanMachi and basically remembering none of it by now, no it is trite shit, just like most of that broad category of media is trite shit.

Also, the "wide variety of people" are almost all a sub section of "people who like to watch anime".
It's not the smallest niche out there by any means, but it is a niche.

Someone should make an inverse rage-game. One where the player has a chill and relaxing experience but the narrator is stuck constantly screaming and raging as they keep on failing to

Oh wait that's just the Stanley Parable
