My reasoning was poorly explained in my last post, probably because I had to run off and do something else. Let me try again.
I am assuming that a 'chirp' is a friendly/neutral form of communication between raptors, and can mean almost anything depending on tone, volume, context, and accompanying body language. Therefore, if the concept of "gratitude" exists within raptor "society," we ought to be able to communicate it. And if this is a fellow pack member who has saved us out of benevolence , then just running off without even acknowledging the guy seems rude.
Then again, perhaps I am projecting too much of my human self into the character. This is literally my first time roleplaying anywhere, ever, so you can expect me to make a few slip-ups when it comes to keeping in-character.
Mind you, there is another reason to chirp at the mysterious shadowy maybe-savior: his response (or lack thereof) will tell us a lot about what exactly his attitude towards us is, and clue us in as to whether he is even part of our pack at all. The fact that we cannot see his coloring really, really worries me.
